Never Still Posted a Flight Over North Sea!

Hi!

Back to ordinary flights as the summer season has ended since a while! The European Airlines Boeing 737-200 is shown here on its second leg of the day, flying from Edinburg (EGPH), UK to Copenhagen (EKCH), Denmark! The first leg was from Brussels (EBBR), Belgium. That's a leg over the North Sea, I never posted here. Enjoyment or comment welcome! :)

 

 

The European Airlines Boeing 737-200 is seen here at the Edinburg (EGPH) terminal. After a one-hour stop, we are readying to takeoff

 

 

We are taxiing now to runway 24. I don't know what that truck is hanging there!

 

 

Cleared for takoff on runway 24. The day in the North Sea area is somewhat windy, at about 20kts, but mostly from the front. We are at about mid-weight. That will be a swift takeoff :)

 

 

We are now climbing, as seen with our faithfull FO in the foreground

 

 

Still over England, about Newcastle. The departure we flew brought us South before turning East

 

 

Cloudy over the North Sea, with a strong tail wind. That will save us fuel :)

 

 

Ceiling clearing to our right. The next land there is the Netherlands! Don't think too much: I don't want to make a water landing :):)

 

 

Making landfall on Denmark's shores (pax view). Always cloudy

 

 

We are on the approach to Copenhagen, EKCH. That brings us above the EKCH VOR, a VOR approach. After that turn we'll get distant up to about 17 NM before intercepting the ILS to runway 24

 

 

Now turning back to intercept the ILS. The approach path is seen to the left of the GPS. Still windy, at 20kts from the front. Will add some speed to the landing speed :pilot:

 

 

Landed, and the runway cleared!

 

 

Parked at the gate. A next leg now, after the plane is prepared, will be Frankfurt (EDDF), Germany before ending the workday back in Brussels!

Funny, I just flew into Edinburgh with my F-22 from Keflavik Iceland. And I indeed landed on 24 with a right base approach. Wind was about 9 knots from the west and the temp was about 45F if I can remember with a dew point near that number. I thought with a dew point so close to the temp I'd have fog, but my so-called scientific and weather know how deceived me as visibility was CAVOK. Good thing too because had the weather been IMC I would have had to land without permission since I flew to Edinburgh with VFR. I do that mostly when I cross large bodies of water. It just doesn't make sense to be in contact with ATC at that point. I mean, FS doesn't have shortwave capability.

About shortwaves, I'm not that a specialist of FS and long distance flight over water, or deserts :pilot:

When you fly say trans-Atlantic from the U.S. to the U.K. you have an obvious absence of ATC ability. So what they do is use shortwave to communicate their position back to ATC every once in a while.

 

The shortwave radio band has a very long wavelength and so being it bounces off the ionosphere and can travel thousands of miles. So that's why they use shortwave for position reports on very long distance trips.

 

I can only imagine that satellite may replace this. As it stands now, many airlines already use satellite telemetry that feeds back to maintenance. And of course it's satellite that gives you WIFI on board. The companies involved with this tech could be a great stock investment. IMO of course.

OK! I see! I had the basics about transoceanic flights, with a HF (high frequency) equipment needed. Maybe that's what you meant with 'shortwaves?' Once, at the FAA site, they had a notice about such flights and requirements, at least for IFR small planes. Don't know whether it still exists :pilot:

As far as the pax view is concerned, that's a long time classic for FSX. That's not in the aircraft.cfg, but in the panel.cfg instead :) that you will have to work. And you need to download the freeware fsx_2d_cabin_window_wing_view_panel.zip, which you can find at Fly Away Simulation, for example. The readme should provide for the install :)

Usually, just paste the Window.bmp file into your plane's 'panel' folder, and, in there, modify the panel.cfg like:

 

add, at

[Window Titles]

.../

Window0x=Pax Window Frame

 

and add a section like (at the right place)

[Windowxx]

file_1024=Window.bmp

Background_color=0,0,0

size_mm=1360

window_size_ratio=0.250

position=7

visible=0

ident=10021

window_size= 1, 1

window_pos= 0

//sizeable=0

 

And re-number each entry (instead of the x shown here) accordingly! :):) That's it pilot! :pilot:

Hey G'erard, nice flight! Having said that you really need to allow your F.O. time off to go to a doctor about that face!!:eek::eek: No One should have to live or sim looking like that without help!

As an old radio guy I always laugh about that. A "Shortwave" radio signal actually has a longer wave length than most communication frequencies. That's how it can "skip" and fill in valleys. The shorter the wavelength is, (ie: Higher frequency) the shorter and more narrow the range is!

 

So I always felt a low frequency transmitting rig should be called "Longwave radio" rather than the other way around. ;)
