Problem displaying forum items

Greetings,

I may be having a "Senior Moment", but starting yesterday when I select a forum topic it takes 15-20 second to display. Normally a topic would display almost instantly. Running an I-7, 24 GB with GTX 1070 with 8 gb. No new software or updates. Any suggestions?

It's been happening to me also and to Darrell (moderator) for a while now. I did kill my adblocker for this site, which helped slightly! We need more folks, who are having this problem, contact Nels at webmaster(at) Flightsim(dot) com to let him know about it. I've PMd Rick about it and he says "it works fine for 99.999% of everybody else!" Another member (3Green) said he's not posting till it's fixed.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Hey fellow Cornhusker!

One of our ad vendors was upgrading their systems yesterday

and that was delaying some pages. Whenever one of their ads was

due to run, it slowed the page down. They seem to be back online

today.

YeeHaw!

Rick

I find myself not coming here as much as I used to, (several times per day), and now just two or three, since it takes 20-25 seconds (sometimes longer), to load pages. Doesn't matter if it's my iPad, laptop, desktop, or smart phone.

I get great speeds at all other site, so I'm confident that it's not my ISP service. Upwards of 50 Mbps.

Darrell, send Rick a copy or screenshot of your tracert. He and Nels are aware of what some of us are going through. The more PMs he gets with attached tracerts, the more he can work on it!

Not sure how to de a tracert or I would too. Ran the following tests in the last 10 minutes:

Time from click on topic to display:

Avsim: 3 to 4 seconds

Hovercontrol: 1 to 2 seconds

Time from click on "Reply to Thread" to get the "Your Message" display: 28 seconds

This this definitely needs attention:

You can't "tracert" into the forum, just flightsim.comFlightsim.com comes up mediocre, at best. Its the individual forum posts that are slow.Try a tracert on your post.Happy to admit if I'm wrong.N99WB

This TRacrt is almost perfect, 16ms is very fast and you should not be having issues.

If I may ask a question, as you know we have recently change our site to use secure SSL .

When in the forum, dose your browser URL show the HTTPS:// with a green lock. Also note that if you haven't cleared your cookies and cache you maybe getting not https request. Which would cause the page not to load proper.

I would also like to know when the first time you started experiencing this issue. Sadly for me, I can not reproduce this problem as all pages load very quick for me here in Chicago..

I do also know that our PHL - Philadelphia, PA, United States data center is having some issues today.

If you live in that area you could be having some network issues.

I will assist any of you where I can.

Regards,

Goodie~

You are correct, the tracert would be to flightsim.com not the forum URL. What this will tell us is which of our many data centers you are connecting thru and the speed of the connect to that center.

This helps us to determine if there is a routing/network issue or if your hitting a particular post that is causing you problems.

As most of us can not reproduce the issue, I am trying to collect as much information as I can from the few that are able. Then we can then work on the needed action to continue to provide you with high speed service you have come to expect here at Flightsim.com

On browsers on pc, FF, IE11, I see https on all pages. But sometimes the lock is yellow in FF. (parts of page for example images not secure is the message when you click on the lock.). On other pages lock is green.

Loading on pc browsers is fast. 2-3 seconds. But wheel on tab keeps spinning for additional 8 seconds.

On phone, opera mini, loading is very slow. 25 to 30 seconds on most pages. Don't think I can do tracert on phone. Was always slower on phone then on pc, but used to be around 10 seconds. I think it was 10 seconds 48 hrs ago.

I would very much like to know what url you found that had the yellow warring about mixed content..

Did you get to this page from a saved bookmark or did you navigate to a page that gave you the insecure tag. We may need to change something on that page..

Mixed content will slow down the handshake to the SSL servers.

Thanks

Cleared cookies and cache on phone. Now login, main forum, fsx forum, and this post, all loaded in around 5 seconds. Me=Happy.

Thanks for the tip Joe.:)

Glad that helped! Cookies can do some strange things when I big change like this has been made..

Sorry joe, I don't have much time at the moment. I quickly clicked a few and found several yellow, so I'll post those.

Yellw lock:

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?305828-Welkom-Terug-Jan

(both have linked images from other sites)

FSX forum threads:

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?291031-Moving-FSX-to-new-SSD

(no images in that thread, except avatars and banners, but lock is yellow.)

Not yellow but green:

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?305079-Back-to-FS9-and-it-feels-soooo-gooood

(has linked images, but still green)

fsx forum green:

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?305813-Add-On-Scenery-Questions

PS:

the shortcuts I use in my browsers all lead to main forum pages (fsx-forum, fs9 forum, screenshots forum, design forum, newcomers forum. etc. All are set to https by me. And all those main forum pages have the green lock.

Just to illuminate a point. All of the content that FlightSim.Com is providing is marked as secure. However, many posts, blogs, screenshots contain user provided http:// links to other sites, images, videos, etc. which will make the lock yellow. If we blindly changed them all to https://, there is a very good chance many will turn into a dead links.

What will help is if members start using https:// links wherever possible.

If you click on the exclamation point in the address bar and look under media,

you can usually see what item is causing the yellow.

I hope to find or write a program that will find the http:// links, check for https:// version and if it exists, add the 's'.

Regards,

Rick

Thanks rick, that explains it. I thought it would be something like that.

Sorry for not adding this sooner, but loading the ones with yellow and with green padlock goes equally fast for me.

I didn't see it as much of an issue therefore. Was just adding info for those who were troubleshooting.

Cheers, il.

I am one of the 99.99% lucky ones at present. Pages load almost instantly as does reply to thread. I have however fallen foul of the slow to load problem a couple of times, and on both occasions, the problem has been a very slow web node, nothing to do with this site.
