Default FSX aircraft lights not working

For some reason the strobe and anti collision lights have stopped working on the default FSX aircraft. Any ideas why please.

Any one in particular? Do any deleting in the FSX/Effects file? Are you missing fx_strobeh

or fx_strobe or fx_beacon?

Firstly check that your 'Pilot controls aircraft lights' box is ticked like this-

Then go into your control keys assignments and check everything is assigned like this-

(but remember not all planes have the full set, some do, some don't)-

 

Lights - all (on/off) L

Strobe Lights (on/off) O

Panel Lights (on/off) SHIFT+L

Landing Lights (on/off) CTRL+L

Landing Light (tilt down) CTRL+SHIFT+Num Pad 2

Landing Light (tilt left) CTRL+SHIFT+Num Pad 4

Landing Light (tilt right) CTRL+SHIFT+Num Pad 6

Landing Light (tilt up) CTRL+SHIFT+Num Pad 8

Landing Light (center) CTRL+SHIFT+Num Pad 5

Checked settings. All OK. Still no Strobe or Anti-Collision lights. Although having said that I notice that there is a flashing orange light coming from around both engines and on top of the wings next to the fuselage which resembles the rotating anti collision beacon, but in completely the wrong places.

I have noticed the strobe light working correctly, but only when viewing from above the front of the aircraft. As soon as I swing round to the rear view it's disappeared.

What aircraft are you looking at?

It's probably because you use dx10.

(dx10 preview mode I mean.)

Default aircraft Zip, namely 747 and 737. It may well be all the default aircraft, but definitely the two I mentioned and regularly use.

OK, for the heck of it please post your [Lights] section for each of them and I will compare to my "Default" aircraft.cfg.

Can you point in the right direction to locate it Zip please. Been through several cfg folder and I can't see anything related to lighting.

Compare the positions for the strobe and for the beacon lights to what yours are.

If the lights are positioned correctly, then I am at a loss as to what has made them move. When was the last time that they worked correctly and what was done in between that time?

 

Are you able to post any pic of them flashing?

Just replace the affected ac folder with the orig backup.

They were working fine up until very recently then for no reason that I can think off they stopped working. I'll try and get some screen shots.

No, I mean from a backup. I made a backup of the full fsx folder (all 17 gb) immediately after installing fsx. I assumed you had also.

 

That is handy in exactly these situations, because you can't just lift the files off the disk.

 

Only way to get then from there is to install fsx on a second computer (do not activate!) (that means you cant install acc, but deluxe is enough for this) then lift the files from there. After you are done, remove it from the second pc again.

Here are some images Zip. Hopefully you can make out the lighting.

 

You can just see the white strobe light at the rear. If I were to pan slightly more to the rear it stops flashing.

 

You may just be able to make out the glow under the engines from the anti collision lights

 

Again, with the night time option you may be able to see the lights from the strobe

Before doing anything too drastic, you mentioned that you thought it affected ALL default aircraft. Have you tried others like the CRJ-700, A321, Lear45, or even the Baron58 to see if their lights moved also?

 

Is that a repaint on a default 737? Try a "Real" Default like Orbit, World Travel, etc.

 

You may have a funky repaint texture.

Nope, it's the same for all aircraft. Could it be a registry problem.

Don't know about a registry problem and I just tried the Thompson repaint and the lights are in their proper places.

 

Are you as positive as can be about not installing something new or a change you read about and wanted to try and just forgot about? You may be looking at a Repair coming up.

 

No new Microsoft auto updates or graphic driver updates?

Now you come to mention it. I did try the freebie Windows 10 upgrade recently which I didn't like and reverted back to Windows 7. This did entail updating the graphics driver. But I'm sure all was working fine still. Well, as sure as I can be.

 

If a repair is going to mean re-installing all my extras and setting up my cfg file again then I'll leave as is Zip.
