We need more information.

I can see you're running Fraps. Turn that off for now until your problems go away. You do not need it for a frame rate counter. There is one built in which is good enough for trouble-shooting.

Windows OS version:

CPU speed :

installed system memory size :

graphics memory size:

Desktop resolution and monitor native resolution:

Is your graphics driver up to date:

Added: FSX version and patch level (standard/deluxe(sp1 or 2)/Gold-acceleration:

Just copy the above, paste into your reply with answers to the questions.

DX10 preview on? Maybe try unchecking that, if you have it. If you aren't running Acceleration, do you have SP2 installed? Is your flight recorder running? Where did you download that aircraft from? Freeware or payware?

Hey Guys,

So I run a

Alienware x51

Processor: 4th Generation intel core i7-4790 processor (4-cores 8MB cache, up to 4.0GHz w/Intel Turbo Boost)

Operating System: Windows 8.1 (64bit)

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760Ti 5G GDDR5

Memory Card: 16GB Dual Cannel DDR3 at 1600Mhz

Hard Drive 2TB (64MB cache) 7200 RPM SATA 6Gb/s

Desktop resolution and monitor native resolution:

Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24 inch LCD TFT Monitor (16:10, 1920x1200, 300 cd/m2)

Is your graphics driver up to date:

Need to check this

I bought this desktop for the sole purpose of FSX, so have nothing installed that I have not used or require for FSX

I run

FSX Deluxe Edition

Acceleration Expansion Pack

I did have Just Flight 757 Captain - but removed this as I hardly ever use

UK 2000 Scenery Heathrow

UK 2000 Scenery Gatwick

UK 2000 Scenery Glasgow

UK2000 Edinburgh

GSX

Majestic Dash 8

Aerosoft A318/A319

This problem is not permanently here. When I start FSX everything is good. Things typically go wrong when I change a view or something simple like that. The aircraft graphics then go horrible like the above and then I end FS ready to throw it out the window!

Any more info you need to help me guys please let me know.

Thanks

C

Nope im not.

To add:

I have just updated the following 2 drivers:

Intel ® HD Graphics 4600

NVIDIA Geoforce GTX 760TI OEM

I am also running the disk defragmentation and optimisation just now. Will let you know how things go after the updates + optimisation.

So your system has 2 Graphics Cards. Are you sure that FSX is using the NVIDIA one? From your description it sounds like your system is have a terrible time building up the graphics when changing views.

"I bought this desktop for the sole purpose of FSX, so have nothing installed that I have not used or require for FSX

Make sure you have SP2 installed on FSX Deluxe. If you have added tweaks to the CFG, remove them for now.

Before you throw the machine out the window, consider donating it. It's a pretty strong computer so just about anyone would appreciate it.

I'll be happy to stand under the window when you do...

So it happens randomly...

GSX at the moment is taking a big hit, only getting heads of people, vehicles missing tyres. etc etc.

FSX is quite slow when chosing plane - time - weather - flight planner etc.

FSX is fine in missions - and default aircraft are no problem. add on aircraft seem to struggle.

As far as I know my desktop only has the 1 graphics card.

im thinking about wiping the full desktop and reinstalling everything in order.

Good luck if you do a complete reinstall of everything. The reason I asked about the 2 graphic cards was your statement:

To add:

If you have time to show us your Graphics Setting to confirm your card.

Thanks Guys,

Also make sure the GCard you intend to use is the one enabled in the bios and the only one enabled in the device manager. If you have attempted to apply tweaks, clear the CFG by exiting FSX and deleting the cfg file after backing it up.

As MZ hinted, re-installing Windows is unnecessary and a waste of time.

Re-installing FSX is a waste of time 99.99% of the time. There is a solution to everything if you are patient and methodical and don't rush off doing the wrong things making it worse.

everything you just said means nothing to me.

I have not changed anything in any file if that's what your asking.... so I shouldn't need to change anything 'back' ?

I'm only asking you to confirm these are correct.

Improper GCard bios settings, multiple or ghost drivers in the Device Manager are common problems which eat CPUs and frame rates. If you checked them and they are correct, then do nothing. All we are doing here is checking off the list of possibilities based on things you have written in the past and trying not to repeat ourselves.

If you do not know how to view or edit the bios and don't know about the Device Manager (I'm not talking about FSX here) then I suggest taking your machine to a professional.

If you read the linked document in my last post and your computer and FSX conforms to that document, then there is little more we can do without sitting at your computer and going over everything one by one ourselves.

Some other things to try:

Max out the slider for:

1. Scenery Complexity

2. Special Effects detail

3. Global Texture Resolution

Try:

1. Simple clouds

2. Reduce the slider for Cloud coverage density

3. Kill A/C labels

These are simple to do and/or restore back to the way you had them.

Also boat and ship traffic if you are flying in land. You don't really need that detail. Also sadly Air Traffic too if you need to really drop back a bit.

What are your settings at right now? I know I prefer scenery, so I even turn off traffic sometimes. It's just not that important to me anymore.

Hope this helps -

adjust the following settings.

[Graphics]:

filtering -- anisotropic

anti aliassing -- on

lens flare -- off

Set a framerate that it can definetly keep steadily, maybe 20 fps. Or even lower.

(Framerate setting is very important, see below)

[Aircraft]:

aircraft cast shadows on the ground -- off

aircraft cast shadows on itself -- off

2-D panel transparency: 10%

[scenery]:

scenery complexity -- normal (=airport buildings and skyscrapers in city's)

autogen density -- normal (=all the other random houses and trees)

ground scenery shadows -- off (takes huge recources)

[Weather]:

Set cloud coverage density to 'low' or 'very low'

[Traffic]:

Set 'cycle rate' to 3 seconds. Or better yet, switch aircraft labels off completely.

Then, test with Fraps not running. It can cause issues sometimes and can slow things down while recording.

*****

Notice the yellow 16 in your first post. I think 16 is your framerate. Displayed by Fraps.

But you have set fsx to try and reach 45 fps.

This means fsx is running your computer at full blast all the the time to try and reach 45 without succeding, and weird stuff can start happening.

Things "fall through the cracks". Things that you asked to be displayed, are not there. Simply because the pc can't keep up.

You don't need Fraps to see the framerate, just press >SHIFT, + >z

Make sure you are testing with a steady framerate. If then still issues appear, look at other options.

other options include: videocard driver reinstall, incorrect installed aircraft, or aircraft not intended for fsx, and more.
