techmsgt
I have a i5 Kalby Lake 7600 processor, 16 GB ram, Windows 10, and an ASUS GeForce GTX 1050 2 GB 6DDRS video card and FSX still "stutters" from time to time. The video card talks about 60 fps but I'm down to 22 fps with simple clouds, minor water activity, and few cars, boats, etc. Why isn't FSX screaming smooth with all that power? You don't say what screen resolution you are running. At 1080p you should do better than that, although a consistent 60fps is very optimistic with weather. The number of pixels is key, so there's not much use talking about it unless we know that. MarkH

lefu
Take a look at Kosta's FSX tweaking guide, posted as a sticky at the top of this forum. Jorgen Speaking of which, what happened to bojote's tweak tool ? FSX ACCELERATION, ASUS P5QPL VM EPU-INTEL E8400-3GHZ-DDR2RAM4GO-WINDOWS7SP1 -GT220GEFORCE if you never wonder about something, its because you know everything....
jorgen.s.andersen
I have tried to find the Bojote tool several times, just to see what it would do to my file, but the tool seems to have disappeared.... OK, back to the present case! The 3.8 GHz is the clock rate. It is a tad slow, but I have run FSX on 3.3 GHz at one time and it still looked good. Before you do anything else, back up the FSX.CFG. About the FSX.CFG: it is made up of sections, each section having a header looking like this example: [MAIN] For better readability I put a blank line just before each header. You will see that you have a number of sections with the header beginning like this: [DISPLAY.Device.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with a reference to the display adapter and resolution. Now remove all the sections beginning like that, EXCEPT the one referring to your present display adapter and resolution. In the section [TrafficManager], set FreewayDensity to 5. Save the file, then make a differently-named backup - use some system so you know which backup is from which step. Now, go here: https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?259352-FSX-P3D-Software-and-Hardware-Tweaking-Guide and run through that. This will give you the improvements that are possible. My own system is an i7 7700K at 4.2 GHz, 16 GB of 2133 MHz DDR4 RAM and a GTX 960 card with Win 10, everything running off SSDs, and I still get stutters. If you run off HDDs, then make sure to defrag them regularly. That was about what I could figure out.... Jorgen
jorgen.s.andersen
Of course I forgot something..... Since this is Windows 10, you might want to go and turn off or better uninstall all those Smartphone-like apps that Microshaft seems to think we need so desperately. To stop Windows 10 from reporting back on what you do (it reports more than you think or like), you can install a nifty little freeware tool, available here: https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 This will make more CPU cycles available to FSX. Thomas Pritchard
Sad truth is FSX is very old software and it will never fully utilize modern hardare. When I pull up task manager while FSX is running it is using less than 30% of my cpu power, gpu power, and memory. The newer crop of 64 bit simulators should begin to distance themselves from FSX and make better use of modern hardware.
Egsjr1956
I have a i5 Kalby Lake 7600 processor, 16 GB ram, Windows 10, and an ASUS GeForce GTX 1050 2 GB 6DDRS video card and FSX still "stutters" from time to time. The video card talks about 60 fps but I'm down to 22 fps with simple clouds, minor water activity, and few cars, boats, etc. Why isn't FSX screaming smooth with all that power? What I like to do is first figure out my computer capabilities by using the default settings and then fly in different areas using the default planes. I would not worry to much about the 60 FPS. With your computer, if everything is running correctly, you should be able to enjoy the sim. The frame rates vary with different variables. Shoot for smoothness and consistency. Try not to play with the settings to much. I find that almost anything I add to my sims usually work well with some minor settings. flytv1
Hi. Defrag and Limit your Frame rate to 30, and try to get around 4gHz clock. Your 1050 is PK but you may want to also limit the size of your textures. Win10 is not very efficient with FSX, try to eliminate as many background tasks that you do not need / want as possible. jorgen.s.andersen
The OP's frame rate is limited to 21. Maybe a little low. Textures to 1024. But definitely and by all means eliminate unnecessary background tasks. Examples of such tasks are auto-updaters, iTunes, OneDrive plus all those apps that Win 10 installs. flytv1
Hi Thomas. If you have the proper configuration you should be able to maximize the throughput of your PC. I run at 4.5gHz with 16GB and NV1080 and in FSX I use as much as 95% of CPU. When everything is setup properly FSX Will make use of most of your resources, the problem is that most people are Not setting it up correctly. mallcott
techmsgt, That FSX.cfg is not standard. If you start replacing products in your computer ALWAYS reset your FSX.cfg. Details of how to do this are all over the net and in this forum. But do take screenshots or make notes of your settings before you delete the FSX .cfg. Once you have a default FSX.cfg start tweaking from there. You may also want to delete the temporary shaders you already have as there's reference to several different video cards in your current FSX.cfg and I doubt you know which of the shaders were compiled under which card, so starting `clean` is the way to go. finally, your 1050 will properly support DX10 and offer better frame rates with it. DX10 Fixer should be considered BEFORE you start tweaking the sim. Good luck
