  1. I've done all of that multiple times with no luck. There is something wiggy about my Win7 version that is just no allowing a full start. Whether I use the new default fs9.exe or not, whether I rename the folders or not, the darned COF splash screen, starts sits a few seconds, then boink - gone. I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why it doesn't like my old version? The only thing I have not done yet is physically copy/paste my Win7 Version into the fresh default WIN10 folder (saving the patched .exe off first, then copying it back). It is probably something simple, and that is what is driving me nuts! Neil
  2. Started over. Uninstalled the default version and mine from WIN7. Reinstalled a fresh copy of FS9 Now I have a fully patched default FS9 that works just fine. Neil
  3. Brian - I get nothing when I click on the link "HERE" that you provided in your reply, but found it anyway and installed it. I now have 5/8/10 installed. Tom - I reinstalled the no-cd patch. I then deleted the FS9.cfg file and tried to start the sim - a brief display of the COF screen, and then it's gone. No startup. It creates a new .cfg file which is empty; no values inside. Robin - other ideas are certainly welcome. Neil
  4. Thanks to all of you - I will have a go at your suggestions tonight, and report back. Much appreciated! Neil
  5. Hello, On a new Win10 Gaming desktop, I installed a fresh copy of MSFS/FS9 into a directory outside of "Programs*', called MSFS_FRESH. I then installed the patch, followed by the No/CD patch. Working fine. From my WIN7 machine, copied my entire MSFS directory over to the WIN10 machine. I renamed the MSFS_FRESH directory to MSFS_DEFAULT. I renamed my WIN7 MSFS directory to MSFS_FRESH. I copied the FS9 execute from the MSFS_DEFAULT into MSFS_FRESH. Finally, I saved the new FS9.cfg file off safely, and then copy/replaced my WIN7 FS9.cfg into the WIN10 machine. Per a post I read, I made sure I installed "directx_Jun2010_redist", and "Visual C++ for 08 & 10 (could not find one for 05, which was also recommended...is this needed ?) When I click the FS9 execute (which is set to "Run As Administrator), I see the COF splash screen come up for a few seconds, then disappear. What steps have I missed completing or file installing? Many thanks for your assistance and patience. Neil
  6. In my opinion, this is one of those subjective subjects. What looks "the best" to one, may look not so great to another. Variations in colors, etc. make some sets look cartoony, yet others look very real. I suggest downloading a bunch. Try them all and see which set looks best to your eyes in your sim. I know I have been through this drill numerous times looking for the best for me. No knock on any author of any water set. The suggestions mentioned here are all worth a good look though. Your system, and how it renders textures, etc. also may play a part. Good luck, and have fun! Neil
  7. "I think someone asked the same question in 2006." And every few months thereafter. Like Mark said, with the bazillion freeware and payware adds still available, have a blast for year to come. Neil
  8. Thanks Hans. I have the beacon fixed now where I can see it in all directions. Turns out, the fx file I tried using was not the best. I changed to another, and it works great now. The wing strobes - makes sense. I just wanted to try adjusting them outward a small amount, because they look buried in the wing, and I don't see them blinking when turned on, and only see a hint of them when panning around the plane. Doesn't look promising in fixing these then, I guess. Though, I'd love to change the fx file for them without making coordinate adjustments, but if they are specified in the model......... Neil
  9. Thanks very much, Tiger. Getting closer with the position of the red beacon, though it is only visible from certain angles. I am using an fx file from an aircraft I know has no issues, so not sure why it's so hard to see. A spec on 3/4 of the view around the plane, but the front quarter is more visible. Weird. Neil
  10. Good day! I have a couple of questions about this lighting section: [lights] Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landing light.0 = 1, 16.1, 0, -2.55, fx_beacon light.1 = 1, 41.25, 0.40, 11.85, fx_beacon light.2 = 8, 35.7, -6.2, 4.7, fx_navwhih light.3 = 8, 35.7, 6.2, 4.7, fx_navwhih light.4 = 8, 14.70, 18.8, 2.95, QW757_wingscan light.5 = 8, 14.70, -18.8, 2.95, QW757_wingscan I fly a couple of the QW 757's from time to time, but don't like the way the rotating beacon and white wing strobes look; not clearly visible, like specs in stead of globes, and look a bit buried into the shape of the fuselage and wingtips. First, what are the values from left to right, ex: 16.1, 0, -2.55? I assume positioning values, but which is assigned to height/fore-aft/left-right? As well, I see types 1-5, but only see 1's and 8's in the list? I don't know what lights 4 & 5 are, but I know I'd like to try adjusting the position of the white wing strobes, unless they are part of the model. Thanks for any suggestions. Neil
  11. Hornet, your pics are beautiful. Would you mind expanding a bit on Ultimate Immersion, and what components you had to pay for, and your install processes? I see references to Minecraft on many of the links, so not sure how it applies to FS9? Pardon my ignorance. Thanks very much, Neil
  12. Aside form the above answers, if you are trying to use aircraft designed to be flown by you, not a great idea. Use AI specific aircraft which are designed to not take that massive hit vs. using a super detailed "flyable" plane. Good luck, Neil
  13. Thanks very much RJ for taking the time to link these sights. I appreciate it, and will have a look. Best wishes, Neil
  14. Hello, Other than a handful of FAIB Base packs I have found here, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of AI aircraft with current liveries being created - for the North American carriers, specifically. Are there other flightsim sites where modern carriers are still being churned out for AI planes? Or, is this simply a sign of where we are with the lifespan of FS9? Thanks very much, Neil
  15. Thanks Jim, I have dozens of airports I frequently fly my commercial and freight airliners in/out of, all with charts, etc. - though quite old (2000-2010'ish). I am not as worried about the freq's being off, but more interested in getting the navigation info, just to give me something to use for airports I am looking to add to my collection. Neil
  16. Thanks very much, this is very helpful. :) Neil
  17. USA International Airports, in general. Thanks, Neil
  18. Good afternoon, Been out of the loop for some time on this subject, and would like to know the popular site(s) to download airfield, approach, departure, etc. charts. Thanks for any suggestions provided! :) Neil
  19. I was having a similar issue awhile ago running my Level-D Sim 767's. I'd get through all of the pre-flight and start-up procedures, start to taxi, and lose all power. Winds up, it was because I did not have my prop and mixture levels firewalled on my CH Yoke. Not saying this is your issue, but if using a simulator yoke with controls, it's something to keep in mind. Good luck on fixing your issue! Neil
  20. I am confident it's the former, not the latter. But, I wonder why it only recently manifested into an issue..I'll continue to investigate. Thanks Tom! Neil
  21. Wouldn't "Cactus" have been America West? Neil
  22. Hi Tom, thanks for your reply. It is every AI aircraft, so thought that it would be a global file, or setting I could examine for the fix. Neil
  23. Hello, It's been awhile since I focused on this issue, and have forgotten everything I once knew. To correct, or mitigate oversized, blobby lights on AI traffic, what file(s) am I to focus on, and if there is a replacement, which do you all suggest? Thanks very much for any suggestion provided :) Neil
  24. I'll do my best over the holiday weekend to get some pics lined up. At the latest, I'll have them early next week. A big thanks for even entertaining having a look! :) Neil
