1. I have done a complete re install of it but all of my ai traffic is still in my aircraft folder how do I get my ai traffic to work again.

Is the timetable (for lack of the right word now) file (a BGL file) in an active scenery folder? This BGL/s file/s accompanies the aircraft model files. The BGL file/s makes the aircraft takeoff and land at certain times...

2. In what way? I have been using AFX to edit ADE files for years (when it suits for a quick edit) and likewise have often loaded an AFX file into ADE if I need to do something that AFX doesn't do (such as create a "flatten" area). To date I have never encountered a single issue in FS2004.

John

(an obsessive airport meddler amongst other things)

I don't know, my observation was that the file didn't play nice in AFX or ADE let alone load. How much editing did you do to the file? I created approaches and the whole nine yards1 (8.2 meters).

1I'm an idiom.

3. Hi Mark,

I agree, what works for me does not necessarily work for everyone else.

Otherwise all is well. I'm recovering nicely from being knocked over in March 2022 & subsequently loosing my right leg from below the knee. 7 surgeries & 3 kidney dialysis later, things are looking up!

Here's hoping that 2023 is going to be a better year than 2022!

I'm terribly sorry you had to go through that. Never thought we'd be hit by a pandemic like this. My sister was in the ICU as well during that crap. She was at ground zero working at a retirement home.

Count your blessings, man. You've been given a second chance.

4. I started my Windows 10 adventure in VMware testing things out and monitoring the network. It's Windows 10 LTSC (an OS used by your doctor or dentist) I saw more telemetry going through the network then you can shake a stick at. Then I found something called Windows 10 AME which is a project of someone's or some peoples. AME strips damn near everything out even the update mechanism. It worked and everything, but I thought it to be waaay too minimized and the fact they used the hosts file to block IPs lead me to believe they don't know what they are doing. The hosts file is only to block domain to IP resolution. It does not block IPs directly. pfSense, OPNsense or third-party router firmware will do that. Even the old program Peerblock will do that on a layer 7 (application) level. But! Windows 10 comes with even more shenanigans. Look no further than the use of UEFI and the Windows Platform Binary Table. https://github.com/Jamesits/dropWPBT

To make a long story short... LOL I now use something called Tiny10. A guy on Twitter striped the crap out of it but still requires a product key so it's legit. Well, not really, but at least it needs the product key... So far I'm happy with it. There's no Facebook, Dropbox or other crap added to it. Not even Internet Explorer or Edge. This is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC. There is a handful of IPs that still try to make contact to the outside world but I solved that crap at the router level for now. I have a mini PC I'm testing OPNsense on and I'll deploy that soon.

I find it nuts that every time I go to Personalize or the Control Panel for example a slew of IPs have to hit the Internet. I never saw that in Windows 7 or even XP. They both had some minor telemetry sans your installed programs, but nothing near the torrent of IP traffic I saw in Windows 10. I watched a few Windows 11 videos on YouStupid and just shook my head at the thought some low IQ chimp/s thought that crap up. Some carbon based human/s thought that crap up. This is true for the modern day mainstream browser and code for a lot of things in this day and age. It's completely backwards or I'm getting to be older, cranky old man. Well, I am. I still have wonderful memories of Windows 95 and Windows 98se with my space screen saver and its space sound effects...

It seems to me Microsoft is trying hard to make the computer OS a smart device OS. It's practically a mirror image of that platform and to me this is wrong. If they want to do that then at least make an OS for PCs (Personal Computer?) and smart devices. Don't take the lazy approach and lump all of the code into one platform. But I can quickly see the capital spent and whatnot for two versions. Especially support and QC. On the other hand, the demographic might be in their favor for PCs and smart devices because one of the biggest search engine hits I get at my website is: "why is Windows 10 a piece of s&*t?" I kid you not. I have a topic named that and I see a ton of Google hits from people looking for answers. I have some interesting information in that topic, too. Information that really underscores how Microsoft doesn't really care about customers it seems. I personally believe these asinine OSs and their boat ton of crap and IP telemetry makes YOU the cash cow - the product. That's why it was free. And nothing in life is free. Nothing. You or someone somehow directly or indirectly is paying for that "something." It's like the principal of work in, work out energy... You are the copper top, and Microsoft et al is the Matrix... LOL

5. Was the warning something about the connection not being secure?

If so, that's only because the web Dev of that website has not installed a TLS certificate in the website server so you see that nice little feel good padlock in your address bar. So right away the website is now dubbed evil and naughty and must comply with Google's monarchy of mandatory TLS encryption...

https://www.virustotal.com/gui/url/c0614e1ea380fb75dd540b9aef351f74dbebbbb524d103c1fbd5387226b65ad8?nocache=1

Just so you know, anti-virus now-a-days is not. It's over bloated and analogous to a barf bag. It also intercepts your TLS connections to a website because it has to in order to "protect" you. Then it more than likely feeds your telemetry to anti-virus headquarters. It's so bad that one anti-virus product packed its very own crypto miner so they were making money at your CPU's expensive.

I stopped using an anti-virus some 8 years ago. I'm very computer smart, never got magically infected, no PUPS or encountered some Guy Fawkes mask wearing hacker invading my computer with a RAT (Remote Access Trojan) or otherwise.

I do three chief things:

1) Scan ALL downloads (actually check their SHA256 hash) at Virus Total. The general consensus is four hits and you toss, but it depends on what you got. A game hack for example will ring more bells than Anita Ward could ever dream of. I also look at the Behaviors and YARA results of the scan. I have edited the Wikipedia page on VirusTotal to include the part about the U.S. Cyber Command giving VirusTotal unclassified malware samples...

2) I run the now FOSS (Free Open Source Software) Sandboxie classic for my browsers. So should malicious JavaScript et al get rendered in the browser, it will hopefully stay in the sandboxed environment and not jump to the OS for execution. Sandboxie can and will protect you from a lot of zero days and ransomware.

3) Make periodic full 1:1 hard drive clones and data backups on many forms of media that are kept external to the computer in $35 fireproof safes and manually encrypted and sent to the "cloud".

From the Wikipedia entry:

Anti-virus software vendors can receive copies of files that were flagged by other scans but passed by their own engine, to help improve their software and, by extension, VirusTotal's own capability.

So don't scan personal files like PDFs or whatever.

I once wanted to know who was checking out the submitted files to VirusTotal. So I used a file laced with what is called a canary token that is harmless and uploaded that to VirusTotal and waited. I saw most IP hits generated from that file's access were from China with the rest coming from Russia and other countries. https://www.fortinet.com/resources/cyberglossary/what-is-canary-in-cybersecurity

This doesn't invalidate VirusTotal's usefulness or anything. It just shows you who's looking at the uploaded files for their malware research purposes.

6. The old paid-for AFX is another FS2004 program for airport design. While rich in some features, it's no where close to ADE's wealth of capabilities. Due note however that AFX and ADE compiled files are not compatible with one another. I don't know why that is other than perhaps how the XML was created. Take it for me as I have run both programs...
7. Agree with Aaron,

mainly in view of the slow jet engine acceleration. Will suggest to my colleague designers:)

I was kinda joking. But if taken seriously, of course lots of testing would have to be done and appropriate pilot training in the Sim to handle such an abrupt but persistent stall out correction in flight. So I think it would need to be a gradual, but fairly fast correction. Something perhaps a De Havilland Dash or other regional could perhaps benefit from due to icing.

8. Remember, the operating system for that Lenovo is going to be Android and thus Google and thus would more than likely have Google cast. If you're already using Google cast then there should be no issue once so ever. Here's a video with the M8.

Absent of that, there are HDMI WiFi transmitters, though might be kinda niche and expensive. Those used Miracast. A WiFi Alliance protocol. https://www.amazon.com/miracast/s?k=miracast

YMMV Don't trust reviews. One website I like to use to get a grade on review quality is Fakespot. But it's now a browser ad-on. Knowing full well add-ons can do all kinds of shenanigans I installed it in a stand alone portable version of Firefox. https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

There are other review grading websites, but I have yet to check them out. Again, reviews can't be trusted. Trustpilot, you name it, they're all crap.

In the United States there is a store called Wonder bread. LOL! (I should by a few hundred shares due to our economy)...

9. If memory serves, a kernelbase.dll error is indicative of a problematic DLL. Yes, it could be due to the absence of the UIAutomationCore.dll. Could be other DLLs loaded in Explorer at the time. One way to check is a programs called Process Hacker. You can monitor threads in Explorer.exe or the Sim process in real time on a second screen...
10. Note: ADE takes some learning and you might want to read the manual and visit their help forum, but once you learn it it's really a great program that can do damn near everything you need for airport design. Even GPS approaches.
11. Thanks Gents,

The SALS gauge is very impressive, will definitely use it. Emarrassingly (Hans), I probably did stall since, after reducing the weight, the same landing worked OK. So, appologies for this emotional glitch, just was upset when this happened after a great flight.

Now why on dirt (Earth) do they not have rocket cans (small boosters) like a C-130 has to temp correct a stall out situation? :D LOL!

I mean, we're not looking at a huge Nâ‹…m of force here, yo!

12. Unless you have only 4GB or less of RAM, it's snake oil. Sorry.

I do realize people swear by those programs, but the truth of the matter is they are in large part not needed. Especially since you can do what that program does manually or with a simple batch file. Also, I bet if you monitored the network that program sends loads of telemetry behind your back. Use Wireshark or Nirsoft's SmartSniff.

Temp block it all with Peerblock.

13. I'm not aware of any figures like that in any .cfg file. I'm thinking most if not all runways in the Sim are a standard issue 3 degrees or something like that. And there is no coincidence with the PAPI either in a lot of cases. Saw that many times.

Your issue however mirrors my past experience though rare. So because I know it can happen I'm prepared for it just in case. Since I mostly fly the F-22 and have retrofitted an imaginary WAAS gauge in my cockpit, it has a synthesized GS/LOC so lone as you zero in on the real mag heading of the runway. I do this as part of my approach procedures by grabbing the actual runway mag from the GPS 500. So now if the AP messes up I can go by the synthesized GS/LOC produced by the WAAS gauge.

For the life of me I can't find the same exact gauge I have. I'm pretty sure I ripped it out of an F-111 and it's called a WASS_GPS vidmap.cab file, but the one's I see are green and my bezel is a metal gray and looks different.

There's also this similar functioning gauge and I have this one installed as a pop up transparent window because what the hey?

salsv9.gif

FS2004 Gauge--Satellite Assisted Landing System, v9 (SALS). Using satellite data, this gauge provides glidepath/glideslope guidance into all runways inside the FS world. Approach heading and glideslope indicators are displayed during the landing phase in a fashion similar to those used with ILS and requires the same piloting techniques to keep the needles centered. Because SALS has the ability to guide an aircraft to both ends of a runway, every airport including grass strips and seaplane bases can be accessed with a high level of landing precision. In case of missed approaches, backcourse guidance is provided during climbout. Panel or separate window installation. Includes SALS icon gauge and Word doc with illustrated design parameters. 14. Judging by the mod date, you're also still running off the CD. That deserves a toast!

I ran FS2004 with a virtual DVD drive. The no CD patch would work I guess...

15. Hi Aaron,

This is how my fs9.cfg properties look (after I installed the 4G patch)

Well what the heck, looks like I never patched from the get go. Also, my FS9.exe is a different version than yours. So my hash value certainly won't match yours or anyone else's. Even after I patched. My version is just different. Could have sworn I updated FS2004 as well. I need to check that sometime. I haven't flown in FS2004 in quite some time so that's why I must have thought it was already patched.

BTW - I believe that patcher will work with other executables that don't utilize 4 GB of RAM. A year or two ago I read all about this and it has something to do with just setting "the flag", but I don't remember all the fine grain details of the patch.

16. I seem to remember something like that, but for FS2004.

Here's what I found.

17. Stage 11 Dec. 1th. From Banda Aceh, North Sumatra to Singapore (Distance 612 Nm)

I did the City Tour with a Cessna 337, my favorite in Flight Gear. But in FS9 it's an unfinished copy with no real Cockpit. After a short section over inhabited areas, the tour went over the northern islands, Palau-We, -Breueh, -Nasi and back to Banda Aceh AirPort. In my Learjet 45 I started up and took off along the eastern coast to the south-east. This time a low flight route over the sea, coast and the hills to Medan. Here turn to the left over the Malakka water. The crossing to Malaysia gave a surprise. A TV tower and the Twin Tower of Kuala Lumpur. Wonderful this recognition. So flew by for a while. Splendid. Then the stretch to the southern tip and Singapore. A complex ATC procedure here, but after landing it became quiet. No guidance for taxiing and to the gate? Forgot to switch to “Ground” or something else?

The link to 11 - Singapore ..

Wasn't the Twin Tower of Kuala Lumpur shown and part of the movie Entrapment?

That was a great movie.
