  1. INSTALL FS2004(FS9) to your Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC 1. Install into C:\ NOT into it's default C:\Program Files 2. Install the FS9.1 update 3. Install the FS9.1 nocd patch (replace the existing FS9.exe 4. Right-click the FS9.exe, select Properties 5. Select Compatibility mode, & select XP 6. At bottom, then select 'Run as Administrator' Here are the links for the No-CD patch & the update... 2. Anyone out there to help?
  3. I would love to get hold of the B-25J
  4. Mmmm, all depends what you are looking for. As far as aircraft goes, a good start is anything from Milton Shupe (& team), Bill Lyons has a heap of aircraft, most with a story. You can also 'theme' your sim to a Golden Wings or a Silver Wings style. For myself, I prefer the props & older aircraft, with very few jet liners in my sims. You can also have more than one install, with themed aircraft & scenery. We have had many a discussion regarding realistic versus immersion. Simming, as the late Garry Smith of Ford Tri-Motor Project fame, always said that simming is all about fun, facts & fiction. For realism, an option is to get hold of some of the so-called 'study level' aircraft, where you can learn all the nuts & bolts of the thing. I've gone for immersion, & I've seen that within a actual sim that our virtual club built, of an Avro Shackleton cockpit that fits on a trailer, using FS2004 & freeware scenery of my homeland, South Africa. We get actual pilots to 'fly' the static sim, & they get so immersed that they actually 'bump' themselves in their seat, anticipating touchdown. If it's aircraft that you are interested in, just reply with the type that interests you, & we will get a list together for you. Chris says very wise words.. set the sim up the way YOU want. We are all here to add a helping hand,
  5. Quite correct. The 9.1 update should be installed, as well as the No-CD patch, & the sim should be installed anywhere except the default place. I do have an install on my C:\ SSD drive that I use as a master copy. To make things easier for me, I've just done 3 additional installs on my D:\ drive. My first was a very tweaked install, just to see if my mods worked. Then I copied & pasted that install twice (after the usual renaming) to get Silver Wings & a Golden Wings install, adding the Golden Wings, Golden Hawaii & Silver Wings mods.. My Silver Wings has most of the Ford Tri-Motor site add-ons & scenery added to default scenery, as well as appropriate additional aircraft (Milton's). My Golden Wings install has pre-WWII aircraft & scenery added. I prefer to have separate installs to prevent any scenery clashes that may occur. An example is that the Ford Tr-Motor scenery does not play nicely with my local South African scenery & mesh.
  6. You MUST install the 9.1 update & the 9.1 patch. Also, NOT in the default Program files folder. Please read the 1st post on this site on how to install into Windows 10.. Installing into Windows 11 is exactly the same.
  7. Enjoy building. Yep, it's great fun to get everything working.
  8. Hi Col. I'm using an ASUS Ryzen 7 laptop, with a 512meg SSD. I've plugged a 2TB portable drive into it, that I'm using as my main storage, as 512meg will get full very quickly. The portable drive is plugged in permanently, & a lot of my program files are installed there as well. I suppose an operating system will work on a USB device, provided that the USB device is bootable.
  9. I was sceptical at first, but it works! No need to have a Flight Sim only PC any more! I doubt if it will work for newer sims, such as FSX.
  10. What I did was to install FS2004 onto a portable drive, with a shortcut from the fs9.exe on my desktop. It works perfectly & runs as fast, just as if FS2004 was installed in my laptop. No issues at all, and no swapping out of anything. BTW.. I'm using an Asus laptop. Windows 11, & never had any issues at all.

    Moon mod

Now Terrabuilder Moon should be great fun. A pity that it's no more.

That sounds so interesting.. The only 'Space" mod I've seen is thefreeware scenery from Carl Reddin. It simulates a space flight environment. 180 km diameter flattened sphere, with star fields, astroids, space stations etc. From Flightsim.com GPDS_UD.zip I have a bunch of spaceships for it as well. PM for more info.. Cheers, Robin
  13. Yep, nothing new at all. I'm running FS2004 from a 2TB portable drive. No issues at all. It runs just the same as if I installed it on my laptop's SSD drive.
  14. It runs perfectly, with a couple of caveats.. The 1st post in this forum explaines.
  15. Yep, I still have it (somewhere) I've found it & sent you a PM. I'm pretty lucky to still have it. My laptop & 6 portable drives (my sim library) was stolen. I was just lucky to keep some stuff in the cloud!
  16. Have you read the very first post on this forum that explains it all? Check your normal screen resolution, and set the sim to the same resolution. The two resolutions must be the same. That should do it. Kind Regards, Robin

    Windows 11

It makes no sense to put an older unsupported Operating system (XP,Win7,8.1 etc) on a brand new computer as the older operating systems are not optimized for new hardware, and there might be certain drivers that will not work. The above post from jgf is very relevant & works!! on my previous laptop , also windows 11, I was running 6 separate & unique FS9 installs, with no issues or conflicts at all. Regards, Robin

By the way.. On another site, there was a guy with a problem installing the KTB EP-3 into FS9 with Windows 10. I've just tried to install it in Windows 11, so doing it with Windows 10 should be the same..1. Extract the files in the zip to a temp directory.2. Right click on the exe3. Select Properties4. Select 'Compatibility' tab5. Select 'Windows XP (Service Pack 2)6. Select 'Run as Administrator'7. Apply & click on the exe to run it.... Install into a temp directory to see whats there, then copy & paste into the sim.Its actually quicker to do than to explain..Ive just done it with both the EP-3E & the WP-3D So, yep, there are challenges with installing old add-ons with modern hardware & software.

    Windows 11

Hi guys, that's me! I'm Wobbie & I posted how I got my FS9 to work on my Windows 10 laptop. Since then, I have a new laptop. Asus Ryzen 7, 512GB SSD & Windows 11. Getting to run a 20 year old (almost) sim on modern hardware has it's challenges, but it obviously does work. I've installed FS9 on the SSD drive as well as on to a 2TB portable drive per manently plugged in to my laptop, & I'm currently running the sim from there. My previous laptop had an integrated graphics card & the sim ran with no issues. My new laptop has an RTX3050 GPU, & I've ran the sim on both the integrated GPU as well as thru the GForce GPU. Some of you may be using add-ons that I do not use & might have problems with those, for me, everything that I've thrown at the sim works (so far). FSX worked, as did MSFS. I've always gone back to FS9 simply because it just works, the range of aircraft is huge, as is the range of scenery, both real & fictional. 'm using the late Garry Smith's fun scenery as well as Carl Reddin's Space scenery. For me, the sim is all about Fun, Fictional & Factual.
  20. Or just copy a fresh FS9 install, maybe with your favourite scenery & planes (payware stuff could be problematic) onto a portable hard drive or memory stick. Then, copy &Y paste this into whatever PC, preferably in C:\. Right-click the FS9.exe & 'Send to desktop' Then, download & run Flight1's Registery Repair tool to tell the operating system's registry where FS9's exe is. Howard.... TNW2018? '
