Helendale AAF Aux. FSX

No third party libraries required. Extremely simple representation of the long-closed Helendale #2 AAF Auxiliary airfield near Victorville, home since the 1980s to Lockheed's Helendale RCS facility. Home to the Skylark North gliding school, vintage glider collections, and the annual Vintage Sailplane Association's regatta. Learn more at Skylark North's website (and drop in for a sandwich or a ride if you're in Tehachapi) and consider joining the Vintage Sailplane Association! Runways and taxiways corrected, runway bearing corrected, landclass and roads added, navaids including nearby gas stations, wind turbines, a hotel, and more detailed components of the cement plant added.

Torrey Pines 1960 FSX

MAIW libraries required. The origin point of all glider flying on the west coast, Torrey Pines was the site of flights by pioneers such as Waldo Waterman, inventor of the Waterman Aerobile, Paul Bikle, director of NASA Dryden during the halcyon days of the X-15 and lifting bodies, Irv Culver, who helped designed the Lockheed Constellation and P-38 and coined the term "Skunk Works", Charles and Anne Lindbergh, who I'm sure you already know plenty about, Woody Brown, the first white man to surf Waimea Bay, and William Hawley Bowlus, who designed and built the first American Sailplane and the genesis of the Airstream trailer. Between the 1920s and the early 2000s, before manned glider and sailplane flights were ended by the construction of eight story dorms near the end of the runways, hundreds of competitions took place and tens of records were set, broken, and set again.
Torrey Pines stands as a monument to the lasting influence of San Diego on America's aviation history.
This scenery depicts Torrey as it was during the 1960s and 1970s as home of the Associated Glider Clubs of Southern California, based off of aerial footage from Gary B. Fogel's history of the gliderport.

El Mirage-Adelanto ca. 1979 FSX

Guy Diotte's B-29 and Calclassic libraries required. Once the center of the soaring world in California, now a test site for General Atomics' drones. This reconstruction is based off of satellite imagery from 1994 and aerial photography from 1977-1979.

Salton City FSX

MAIW and Cal Classic libraries required. Salton City airport is a possibly closed single-runway airstrip on the beautiful fish-corpse-studded toxic coast of the Salton Sea, America's biggest accidental sludge pit. This depiction is based off satellite imagery from last year and my own visit in 2022.
At one point, this airport was served by Bonanza Airways bringing tourists to the Salton City resorts. The original version with airline service is included in CalClassic's California Airports 1959-1962 scenery.

Banning FSX

Jim Dhaenen's airport buildings and Cal Classic libraries required. Banning is a single-runway general aviation field next to Interstate 10 in Banning, California, in between Redlands and Palm Springs.
I corrected taxiways, runway dimensions, and ramps and added more realistic hangars, the new fueling area, and more realistic parking spots.

Jim Dhaenen's airport buildings and Cal Classic libraries required. Jacumba is a former resort town (centered around its hot springs) in far southeastern San Diego county, just yards away from the Mexican border.
When FSX was created, the airfield had a simple gravel strip, but since then it's received a new tarmac strip. I've updated the runway, added the new hangar and some gliders, and created more realistic landclass.

An upgrade of the default Hemet-Ryan field with a more detailed depiction of the glider area, corrected taxiways and runways, more realistic hangars, and an update to the CalFire and Riverside Sheriff ramps.

Chicken Strip Saline Valley FSX

This is a very simple representation of Chicken Strip, an isolated rough dirt strip near Death Valley, inside Death Valley National Park. The strip serves the Saline Valley warm springs.
The airstrip dates back to the 1960s, but was officially authorized by the National Park Service after restoration by the Recreational Aviation Foundation in 2019.
