  1. Which joystick? If it's an Extreme 3D Pro (or something similar), try cleaning the potentiometers. You'll need to be brave enough to open them. That will buy you some time... at least until your new one is delivered.

Yup that's the one. Guess I don't have a choice. New one is $50, throttle quadrant is $80. That or I learn to get used to using F1 through F4.

Familiar with FSUIPC helping out? I've heard it can smooth out issues like that.

Don't know if keys for FS9 are still purchaseable; also it's $24.

  2. Hi y'all,

Seem to be having a monthly issue with FS9 (yup, still with FS9). Throttle slider on the Logitech joystick is wiggling a bit and occasionally violently jumps several dozen N1. Tried playing with the sensitivities, but it seems like decreasing sensitivity reduces how much throttle you can ever get. Null zone doesn't dampen out those tiny vibrations either. Tried disconnecting and blowing on the thing too but no use.

It's definitely the joystick, as setting it to a certain throttle setting and then disconnecting it doesn't twitch the power at all. It just settles there perfectly.

Thoughts? Time for a new joystick?

  3. Just to clarify the aircraft isn't taking off like most aircraft do when they are exit from slew and go airborne (if slew is exit from an altitude other than the ground) . It settles onto the ground nicely but just the throttle goes up by a few hundred RPMs.

Ok I have no idea what happened but the problem seems to have gone away on it's own and I can now yaw in slew mode again. Here's what I did that may have resulted in this:

Reset sensitivities (even though throttle axis is not one of them)

Changed the location of the USBs (the problem returns when I insert the USBs back to their original position).

Not sure why that may have been an issue in the first place. Everything seems to be working fine now. Odd this was not a problem before, however.

  4. Hi,

Have you tried pressing F1 first to make sure you are firmly on the ground before exiting Slew?

I always do this with the aircraft lower-elevation key. Didn't work when pressing F1.

Look at your sensitivities and null zone on your joystick. Maybe need to adjust this.

Calibrating it and now apparently needing to unplug and plug in are required to get the thing to stop advancing.

The throttle axis is not something I can adjust the sensitivity of, nor the null zone. I've only got roll, pitch, and yaw.

Also it seems I fixed my slew-yaw with the joystick problem I had before, ahahah.

  5. Hi again y'all, back for my monthly gripe

This one's a simple but annoying one. Any airplane I exit slew (whether or not I actually move around with the slew or push any key) advances the throttle forward once I exit. It's fixed by calibrating the joystick (Logitech one), but that's an annoying thing to have to do every time I start the sim. I thought it might have had something to do with another controller like a PS4 controller connected, but that doesn't seem to be the case as it's off and disconnected. This is a new problem. I don't know what's causing it. It might be the PS4 controller being installed at all but it's been installed for sometime and I'd rather not touch that (my brother's the main user).

    Thanks!

  6. It sounds like there's definitely a conflict between the pedals and your joystick, which will be your primary controller, along with it's rudder axis and brake control.

If you've still got the brake (trigger) disabled on your joystick, I'd re-enable it and disable the toe brakes on your pedals.

I think this combination isn't ideal, if you really want the pedals you'd be better off with a non-twist grip joystick or a yoke to avoid these control axis conflicts.

Ehh I'm fine without the trigger brake. Pedal brakes are much more useful. I just really don't like the pedals starting to affect functions that I've had since I've started to use the sim several years ago. Especially the bloody slew yaw. I could've sworn it was working before. Might consider reinstalling FS2004.... ugh.

  7. Yes, there could be some "chatter" from the joystick twist grip and/or the pedals even when not in use. As a test, it might be worth increasing the twist grip axis null zone to 50% or even 100% and leaving it active instead of disabling it?

Hmm unfortunately the twist axis null zone isn't available.

Another thing I'm noticing is sometimes I'm having to use a lot more power just to taxi something like a Posky 757 than I normally do. Like the brakes are still on (even though it says they aren't). It was really obvious with one flight, although trying to repeat it.... I can't tell very much, but it feels unusual that I don't have to constantly brake the aircraft to slow it down when idle-taxiing, which... I guess is kinda good, but fools broken.

I did another test run with the 757. Was ok, feels a tad weird. The first time I noticed it (yesterday) I was taxiing with half power. I haven't had anything like that recently.

Regarding sensitivites, I'll have "advance" selected, hit ok, then come back and the pedals are back at "simple".... am I resetting the sensitivity option somehow? I thought I had it fixed yesterday but the problem came back (the problem with needing a lot of power for taxi).

  8. In the Controller settings screen there is a Slew Commands section which is separate to the normal commands section. Here you can assign the rotate command to your pedals rudder axis (and delete the joystick rudder axis just in case).

The pitch and aileron commands will automatically copy over from the normal commands to the slew commands, but for some reason the rudder command doesn't (maybe because the pedals are a separate controller?). I had to manually program mine in the same way.

Hmm yeah I attempted that. Even then the pedals don't slew the aircraft. They're working fine, as far as the pedals and the twist go: they're recognized by the sim when in the assignments menu. When I finally decide to use the command in play, I get nothing. I want to say the sim is getting commands from both inputs (even just inputs of zero) so in the end it just cancels them both out. However, I disconnected the pedals and I still don't get any yaw in slew out of them (verified the yaw axis is re-assigned to the twist). I can still yaw the aircraft in-flight, but slew yaw is dead. I re-calibrated it too.

The x and y axis are fine. Not sure why the sim is treating the z axis any different.

  9. Thought I may get more insight here.

I've run into a lot of problems ever since I got the Saitek pedals. Some have been fixed/patched, others remain a mystery. Maybe I could get help with a few.

    1. Using the pedals with the Logitech joystick does not funny things. The brakes are unusable with the trigger now (I since just deleted the trigger brake assignment). I've come to sort of get used to it...

    2. Not sure how new this is, but when in the slew mode, I can no longer rotate the aircraft about the vertical axis, not with the twist-axis on the joystick, and not with the pedals when I do assign yaw with the pedals. I don't think the sim likes having inputs from two different sources, even if they aren't in use simultaneously. Even deleting inputs from one device altogether doesn't seem to do it.

I've toyed with sensitivities/null zones to sort of fix the rest of issues. Annoying patch work. Mostly that last problem is pretty frustrating... any ideas how I can get yaw back without having to start using a keyboard key? I don't want to accept mediocrity controls and getting used to stuff like this. Thanks

  10. Hi y'all. Recently (finally) purchased and received the Logitech saitek rudder pedals, and also finally managed to get the differential brakes to work properly (has to be set on "reverse" for some reason).

However now I can't get the toe brake to work which is much stronger than the differential brakes for stopping. Still using the logitech joystick, I still have the brakes to be used by the trigger on there and tried all three "repeat" functions but to no avail. I also removed the brake assignment on the rudder pedals (not sure what that would do). The trigger works when disabling the parking brake, but never actually works again. I can now only "release" brakes.

Also on a weird side note, when pressing the differential brakes, it still says "brake" after releasing (no braking action observed, however. Might be minimal).

Many thanks from this red badger!

  11. I was playing around with the FS2004 in-game flightplanner... sometimes when I double click/click on a random point in space, I'll actually manage to winch the route and drag it onto a particular waypoint. This is best when trying to pick hard to find waypoints for the route and then not having to go find the red line to drag, only to lose sight of the waypoint.

Anyone actively familiar with how to do it? This and clicking waypoints one time to add to the route (if the line is close enough) seem to be inconsistent. That or how far zoomed in/out appear to have an effect on it.

Otherwise I'm looking to use simbrief...

  12. So,

Recently was working on a flight plan from Seattle to Narita. Was about to finish when I made some ... unexpected, unexplainable mouse drag/click combination which did something to the simulator, and it crashed.

Not really feeling like doing it again (but I will end up doing so anyways), is there a program that creates a .pln file where I could just enter the points (assuming it knows which points do and don't exist in the FS2004 database)?

  13. I also use FSrealWX lite and am becoming displeased with its limitations. I tried the pro version and found it awful and quickly uninstalled it.

I think I'll try FS Global Real Weather. It says it is compatible with FS9.

    Nadlzfw

Yeah, it's reliable 70% of the time. Not quite enough for a guy like me! I know it's free but there's certain necessities that have to be met, and that's going to be loading the dang weather right! (especially when the weather itself is already downloaded correctly). Loading it in the first place (as opposed to having the fair weather sit there idle) is also a must.

If you choose to use FSGRW, let us know how it goes!

  14. Interesting. You are posting to an FS2004 forum, so I am assuming, you are flying FS2004. I just looked in the library and M Spada has 2 panels listed:

    com_md80.zip

COM80FIX.ZIP (references this file as a fix)

    md80-k4.zip

mdped.zip (references this file as a fix for the md80 file)

Maybe you can identify which file you have, and try the fix OR try the other file to see if it solves your problem?

I have FSX and my panel is an FSX panel and I have never experienced the issues you are having!

Good luck, hope you find the solution!

    Rick

Neither fix is applicable or works out.

This is also audible with the SGA DC9.

Annoying because the aircraft isn't even moving and yet "aircraft is rolling" sounds are playing >:l . They cannot be muted with "sound off", and can be heard in the flight planner menu as well..... wow.

If I could delete the stupid sounds from the sim that'd be great and acceptable, but even removing the culprits.... they still appear to be coming from somewhere else. I could try just completely deleting all the sounds (or rather moving them elsewhere) and see if consolidating would work, but I have my doubts. I think it's from some panel I may have downloaded; it probably introduced something into my sim, but even then, the sound.wav files under scrutiny are actually default FS9 sounds.

  15. If you have it, use REX for FS2004. I used to do so, until I moved to FSX (barely 2 weeks ago).

Still supported? I've heard of Rex but could've sworn it was no longer supporting FS9.

I use FS Global Real Weather. The nice thing about this one is you can use it on FS9,FSX,PSD,X-PLANE

    nebojsa

This one looks great, just not sure if I want to commit /that/ much.

  16. Most of us should be aware by now that FS9's weather engine is no longer supported.

I've been using FSrealWX lite for a while, however it has some very, very annoying quirks and just doesn't cut it for me sometimes (overcast is paper thin, winds aloft can be off by as much as a full 180 sometimes, and not 20 knot winds, but 100 knot winds... guess that's why I'm here. It nullifies any attempt to have accurate fuel planning if the stupid thing is going to give me completely wrong winds).

What options would y'all look at? Is FSrealWX pro any better? FSmetar? I'd certainly consider a payware if it's not too much ($20-$25). There's FSGlobalWeather (I think that's what it's called), but it appears to be 39 euros... yikes.

  17. Sorry for the lack of response (I guess it's my funeral so who cares right!).

I've narrowed it down to the Spada panel.... I tried the SGA MD80 with the 717 panel I have, it works fine with no sounds "bleeding" into other views or when in FS9 settings.

The sounds I'm hearing are either cnroll1 or usroll1 (or any of those). I'll start to hear them on takeoff, and they're audible in different windows, even though they're "interior sounds". They of course, go away after some time once airborne and no longer rolling.

I tried removing fssound.dll but it didn't do much.

  18. How does Marco Spada's panel have anything to do with these sounds? I have this panel in my MD-83, MD-90 and two DC-9"s, and nothing like what you are experiencing!

Several things you can do to rule out the panel and possibly find the culprit.

    1) Find another panel (don't delete the M Spada panel, as it is superb in my opinion) and install it to your aircraft you are having issues with. Rename your M Spada to something like panel.1

See if the sounds are still present.

    2) Rename your existing sound folder to something like sound.1. Go into some of your aircraft that do not have issues and copy and paste that sound folder to your aircraft that has issues.

    Sounds still present?

    3) Copy your M Spada panel over to an aircraft you are not experiencing any problems and see if the sounds presents themselves to the once before aircraft that had no issues!

I would be more prone to believe the problem is in the sound folder of the aircraft you are having issues with. I could be wrong, but, with a little effort in a process of elimination, you should be able to find the culprit!

Good luck and keep us posted!

    Rick

    I will try this.

I’m not sure what is calling the sounds; maybe it’s because I added sounds from a different panel (I added a panel for a DC9, from dennis I think) and the aircraft itself (either the air file or the cfg) is calling for these sounds, not the panel?

Might be useful to add these sounds exist whether or not in panel view.

  19. Hi y'all again,

This wasn't an issue for a while, but when using Marco Spada's MD80 panel, when paused I'll hear airflow sounds, and now, in addition, while in takeoff run, door-banging sounds as well. I thought I identified the sounds I wanted removed, but even when I taking them out, they continue to play while paused. It's a hair annoying when watching replays or when pausing the sim for a second. (these sounds cannot be muted when pressing the sound-off key). Anyone ever run into this issue?

  20. Do you have any landclass files in that Seattle scenery folder? Some computers can generate a memory leak if that scenery folder has a texture folder alongside it. Try temporarily removing any landclass file (often starts with LC). And try removing any of those from all your addon scenery folders (search for LC).

I've pretty much (after a lot of consolidating) isolated the issue to be one particular texture; an Atlas Air 763 texture, but it looks fine... like it's a bmp file. I may just re-download it and hope it works. It's worked before (so I think, I've had it for a while), I don't know why it would decide to break down all of a sudden.

For now I just had the aircraft.cfg pick the other texture file in the same aircraft (there's two textures; both the same, but one has a different registration).

So yeah the texture appears to be the immediate culprit. What caused it to act like an FSX texture, I'm not sure.

  21. I've had this issue before, but I don't know how I've fixed it. I'm afraid there's an FS9 reinstall in my future, again..

I looked up a previous thread of mine, but it's useless, and actually different.

    https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?299839-GPS-is-blank

This time it appears to be some sort of memory leak as opposed to what may just be "missing fonts". I've had similar issues before, my hypothesis is there's an FSX gauge or texture involved that's causing this, but it's likely to be starting from the GPS. I've already removed some gauges that were a part of a panel installed for an L1011 (rest assured if that's responsible I won't be using it again...), but the GPS issue and memory leak persists.

Here's what I have so far in conclusion: GPS blank, textures begin to disappear, it's probably an addon with FSX stuff.

    https://imgur.com/a/7bEztnD

Even without loading the aircraft, it appears to still be affecting the sim adversely.

It happens in Seattle-Tacoma, observed only here, not in AUS, or SAT, I don't know why....

It also only happens during certain times of the day (early). I really think it's an AI texture or something but I don't know...

And now I've sort of figured it out, although it may not even be relevant and the problem may still be lurking. When I remove the afcad I have for SEA, I no longer see a memory leak. I thought it was my newer afcad but putting an older one still screws with the dang simulator. Maybe an aircraft texture that doesn't pop up sometimes because there's no room for it to spawn? I already removed Thomas Cook Airlines from the equation entirely (my latest AI installed) which flies into SEA, but yeah the problem persists...

  22. Update, removed all AI flight plans from the sim; EGKK loaded fine. I had a total of 167 flight plans installed. I'm probably going to trim it down a bit as well as cut some dense aircraft.txt files as I mentioned earlier ago.

New question; like addon sceneries, does the sim load all AI flightplans whether or not I am in proximity to the AI? Even if the flightplans are for an airport on the other side of the globe?

  23. I mean I have a /lot/ of addons. I would think having all that AI might have an effect (most of my addons are probably AI and then lots of afcads). Would lowering the number of afcads help? Even if I don’t have a scenery installed I still have the bare afcad there in the addonscenery/scenery folder.

I understand just having a scenery installed at all takes a bite out of memory. At the moment I don’t have a whole lot (relatively speaking. I think I have 12). In the past I had probably up to 40 installed (some inactive) and I didn’t experience a crash ever that often).

I’m seriously thinking it may be the sheer number of AI (over a hundred plans I think, plus that Norwegian one basically had an AI for almost every individual plane in the flightplans.txt. However I tried trimming it down to just a dozen AI aircraft and this didn’t fix it previously).

Lastly, I’m going to assume there’s no “5-GB patch” for 64-bit OS just like there is a 3-GB patch for 32-bit, right?

  24. Old problem, but it appears even after reinstalling FS9, EGKK gives me an "out of memory" problem still (which is BS since I'm actively looking at the task manager and says available memory is just fine and dandy for that time frame). It's likely not the sim but just this computer.... I keep seeing that error way more often. Like I can't even go to another airport without the thing crashing.

EDDF is out of bounds too....

I can however confirm I was able to go to EGKK without anything 3rd party installed; nothing at all. I might have to do another reinstall if I don't wish to be individually picking in and out what files may have been affecting the sim (and constantly open and close FS9), and just do one addon at a time until a break happens eventually,

Is it recommended installing FS9 outside of program files? Otherwise it almost seems like I've been banned from flying into Europe (I usually don't go there anyways but still).
