This river provides the basis for the commercial St. Lawrence Seaway. The St. Lawrence River runs 3,058 kilometers from the farthest headwater to the mouth and 1,197 km from the outflow of Lake Ontario. These numbers include the estuary; without the estuary the length from Lake Ontario is 500 km. The farthest headwater is the North River in the Mesabi Range at Hibbing, Minnesota. Its drainage area, which includes the Great Lakes, the world's largest system of freshwater lakes. 7. Victoria Day is a federal Canadian public holiday celebrated on the last Monday preceding May 25. Initially in honor of Queen Victoria's birthday, it has since been celebrated as the official birthday of Canada's sovereign. It is informally considered to be the beginning of the summer season in Canada. The holiday has been observed in Canada since at least 1845, originally falling on Victoria's actual birthday (May 22). The holiday has always been a distinctly Canadian observance and continues to be celebrated across the country. It falls on the Monday between the 18th and the 22nd and so is always the penultimate Monday of May. Victoria Day in Ontario is known as the May 22nd long weekend and is the official start of the summer cottage season. So, for this month we head for the heart of cottage country. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, May 22nd at 10h00edt (14h00z) and 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our May 2021 fly-in where we will fly from Toronto Billy Bishop (CYTZ) to Muskoka Airport (CYQA). 8. Fly the Canadian Xpress Canadian Rockies Tour The Canadian Rockies or Canadian Rocky Mountains comprise both the Alberta Rockies and the B.C. Rockies in the Canadian segment of the North American Rocky Mountains. They are the eastern part of the North American Cordillera, which is a system of multiple ranges of mountains which runs from the Prairies to the Pacific Coast. The Canadian Rockies mountain system comprises the central/eastern part of this system, lying between the Interior Plains of Alberta and northeastern British Columbia on the east to the Rocky Mountain Trench of BC on the west. The southern end of the Canadian Rockies borders Idaho and Montana of the United States. In geographic terms, the boundary is at the Canada–United States border, but in geological terms it might be at Marias Pass in northern Montana. The northern end is at the Liard River in northern British Columbia. The Canadian Rockies have numerous high peaks and ranges, such as Mount Robson 12,972 ft and Mount Columbia 12,293 ft. The Canadian Rockies are composed of shale and limestone. Much of the range is protected by national and provincial parks, several of which collectively comprise a World Heritage Site. The Canadian Xpress Canadian Rockies Tour consists of 40 legs that must be flown in order where you will explore the Canadian Rockies and visit many challenging Canadian airports. 9. Queenstown is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island. It has an urban population of 16,000. The town is built around an inlet called Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu, a long, thin, Z-shaped lake formed by glacial processes, and has views of nearby mountains such as The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Walter Peak and just above the town, Ben Lomond, and Queenstown Hill. Queenstown is situated on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, the third largest lake by surface area in New Zealand. The town is located close to the lake's northeastern bend, at which point a small arm, the Frankton Arm, joins the lake with its principal outflow, the Kawarau River. The center of the town is on the north shore at the point where the Frankton Arm links with the main body of the lake, but also extends to the major suburb of Frankton at the eastern end of the arm, and across to Kelvin Heights on the Kelvin Peninsula, which forms the Frankton Arm's southern shore. Your mission is to fly from Christchurch (NZCH) to Queenstown (NZQN) with any Canadian Xpress® freeware or payware Twin Engine Prop or Turbo Prop aircraft you have the rank to fly. 10. This month’s fly-in is a short 135 nm flight and is ideal for smaller aircraft that will allow you to fly slow and enjoy the mountain scenery. Aspen and Telluride are some of the most popular wintertime places to relax and unwind in the mountains of Colorado. Aspen airport or as it is locally known as Sardy Field, is over 7,000 feet above sea level and is the second highest commercial airport and the busiest ski resort-based airport in the United States. Telluride airport is the highest commercial airport in the United States with an elevation of 9,078 feet above sea-level and a runway length of 6,911 feet. Nearby terrain exceeds 14,000 feet. Not to mention the immediately nearly 1,000 foot drop off the end of runway 9, makes Telluride a very interesting airport to visit. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, April 24th at 10h00edt (14h00z) and 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our April 2021 fly-in where we will fly from Aspen (KASE) to Telluride (KTEX). 11. Donegal Airport is located 2 nm south-west of Bunbeg in Carrickfinn, a townland in The Rosses, a district in north-west County Donegal, Ireland. The airport is on the county's north-west coast. about a 15-minute drive from Dungloe and Gweedore and 45 minutes from Letterkenny. It is popularly known within County Donegal as Carrickfinn Airport. Due to the large gas field in the area, non-scheduled chartered helicopter flights connect the multiple offshore installations to the airport. Eastern Airways operate a chartered service to Aberdeen for this purpose. Until the mid-1980s, the runway was a grass strip. This was replaced by a hard surface runway with temporary buildings. The airport started operations in 1986 and was developed with funds and assistance from the Government of Ireland, private investors, Donegal County Council, the International Fund for Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund. In the 1990s the runway was extended to 1,500 m (4,900 ft) and a new terminal building with modern navigational aids and equipment was added. Your mission is to fly from West Knock (EIKN) to Donegal (EIDL) with any Canadian Xpress® freeware or payware Twin Engine Prop or Turbo Prop aircraft you have the rank to fly. 12. Continuing with our Sunday Night Flight Events, we bring our monthly Fly-In to the Island Nation of The Bahamas. New Providence Island is the home of Resort City of Nassau. Nassau airport or officially named Lynden Pindling International, is the busiest airport in the Bahamas, as the jumping off point for the rest of the Bahama islands. The Bahamas is also home of some of the nicest beaches in world. Departing from Princess Juliana on the Island of St. Maarten we fly to Nassau. St. Maarten has one of the most famous approaches in the world as you make a very low pass over Maho Beach. However, what most people forget about is the departure track out of St. Maarten. Leaving St. Maarten on the most used runway of RWY10, puts you in the direct path of a mountain reaching almost 1000 feet above the airport just 4 miles away. This mountain requires pilots to make a 120° right hand turn nearly immediately after takeoff. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, March 27th at 10h00edt (14h00z) and 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our March 2021 fly-in where we will fly from St Maarten (TNCM) to Nassau (MYNN). This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress event that will be flown on the VATSIM network. 13. Bora Bora is an island group in the Leeward Islands. The Leeward Islands comprise the western part of the Society Islands of French Polynesia, which is an overseas collectivity of the French Republic in the Pacific Ocean. Bora Bora has a total land area of 30.55 km2. The main island, located about 230 kilometers northwest of Papeete, is surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef. In the center of the island are the remnants of an extinct volcano, rising to two peaks, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu; the highest point is at 727 meters (2,385 feet). Bora Bora is part of the Commune of Bora-Bora, which also includes the atoll of Tupai. Bora Bora is a major international tourist destination, famous for its aqua-centric luxury resorts. The major settlement, Vaitape, is on the western side of the main island, opposite the main channel leading into the lagoon. Produce of the island is mostly limited to what can be obtained from the sea and from the plentiful coconut trees, which were historically of economic importance for the production of copra. Your mission is to fly from Tahiti (NTAA) to Bora Bora (NTTB) with any Canadian Xpress® freeware or payware Twin Engine Prop or Turbo Prop aircraft you have the rank to fly. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: https://www.aerosoft.com/ The March 2021 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from March 3rd until March 29th, 2021 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.
  14. http://events.canadianxpress.ca/images/CXA_Febr_2021_FlyIn.jpg Telluride Regional Airport (KTEX) is a public airport six miles west of Telluride, in San Miguel County, Colorado. It is owned by the Telluride Regional Airport Authority. At an elevation of 9,078 feet (2767 m) above sea level, it is the highest commercial airport in North America with scheduled passenger flights. Telluride Regional Airport covers 542 acres (219 ha) and has one runway, 9/27, 6,911 by 100 feet (2,106 by 30 m). The runway is on a plateau and still dips slightly in the center, although the dip was more pronounced prior to a renovation in 2009. It can be a challenging but beautiful approach for pilots. In the past during winter months, about 20% of the scheduled commuter airline flights were diverting to other airports because of abruptly adverse landing conditions. This is not unusual since other mountain airports like Sun Valley have similar statistics. When flying to the Telluride Regional Airport, pilots must be aware of unique issues impacting the airfield including high terrain exceeding 14,000 feet (4,300 m), as well as the airport's location on a plateau with a thousand-foot (300 m) drop to the San Miguel River below. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, February 27th at 10h00est (15h00z) and 21h00est (Sunday 02h00z) for our February 2021 fly-in where we will fly from Jackson Hole (KJAC) to Telluride (KTEX). This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress event that will be flown on the VATSIM network. 15. http://events.canadianxpress.ca/images/CXA_Febr_2021_Challenge.jpg Kahului is located on the Hawaiian Island of Maui. Approach to this airport is normally from the south, that brings you in between volcanic peaks on your left at 6,000 feet and on your right at 10,000-feet above sea level. To land at an airport only 22 feet above sea level. This visual distraction along with the winds that funnel between the peaks makes Kahului a very challenging airport. Your mission is to fly from Honolulu (PHNL) to Kahului (PHOG) with the Canadian Xpress® freeware or payware Airbus A32-211, Boeing 737-700 or Boeing 737-900 [n]that are available to all pilots regardless of rank, but for only the Monthly Challenge.[/b] You may also fly any Canadian Xpress® Twin Engine Turbo Prop aircraft you have the rank to fly. Edmonton is on the North Saskatchewan River and is the center of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region which is surrounded by Alberta's central region. The city is a staging point for large-scale oil sands projects occurring in northern Alberta and large-scale diamond mining operations in the Northwest Territories. 19. http://events.canadianxpress.ca/images/CXA_Dece_2020_FlyIn.jpg Winnipeg is the capital and largest city of the province of Manitoba, Canada. It is centered on the confluence of the Red and Assiniboine rivers, near the longitudinal center of North America. The city is named after the nearby Lake Winnipeg; the name comes from the Western Cree words for muddy water. The region was a trading center for Indigenous peoples long before the arrival of Europeans. Winnipeg is the seventh-most populated municipality in Canada, with a resident population of about 778,500. Being far inland, the local climate is extremely seasonal even by Canadian standards with average January lows of around -21°C (-6°F) and average July highs of 26°C (79°F). Regina is the capital city of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The city is the second largest in the province. Regina was previously the seat of government of the North-West Territories, of which the current provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta originally formed part, and of the District of Assiniboia. The site was previously called Wascana ("Buffalo Bones" in Cree), but was renamed to Regina (Latin for "Queen") in 1882 in honor of Queen Victoria. This decision was made by Queen Victoria's daughter Princess Louise, who was the wife of the Governor General of Canada, the Marquess of Lorne. Unlike other planned cities in the Canadian West, on its treeless flat plain Regina has few topographical features other than the small spring run-off, Wascana Creek. 21. http://events.canadianxpress.ca/images/CXA_Nove_2020_FlyIn.jpg This month, we switch to Central Canada as part of our Capitals Fly-In tour. Starting in Quebec City, we head west over the Nation's Capital of Ottawa before landing in Toronto. Quebec City is the capital city of the Canadian province of Quebec. It is the eleventh largest city in Canada. The Algonquian people had originally named the area Kébec, an Algonquin word meaning "where the river narrows", because the Saint Lawrence River narrows proximate to the promontory of Quebec and its Cape Diamant. Explorer Samuel de Champlain founded a French settlement here in 1608, and adopted the Algonquin name. Quebec City is one of the oldest European cities in North America. The Teniente Rodolfo Marsh Martin Airport on King George Island, is part of Chile's Antártica commune in Antarctica, and is the northernmost airport on the Antarctic continent. This is because it is served by various public flights, usually as part of a fly/cruise. There is no regular scheduled public service to the airport, although Aerovías DAP has some charter flights from Punta Arenas.
