  1. Normally, when people head south to escape of the Canadian winter, it only takes 1 or maybe 2 flights at most to get to their destination. However, when you are in control of the flight, it is no fun to sit for hours letting the plane do the work. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, March 25th from 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) to 24h00est (Sunday 05h00z) for our March 2023 fly-in where we depart from where we left off last month in Providenciales Int (MBPV) and fly the final leg in our search to find warmer weather to Princess Juliana (TNCM). One lucky Canadian Xpress pilot* will win: • Any Just Flight Product from: https://www.justflight.com *Please see Fly-In PDF for contest details and eligibility requirements. This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress event that will be flown on the VATSIM network. 2. Gustaf III Airport, also known as Saint Barthelemy Airport, Remy de Haenen Airport, sometimes as St. Jean Airport, is a public use airport located in the village of St. Jean on the Caribbean Island of Saint Barthelemy. Due to its very short runway, very close proximity to automotive traffic on a nearby road, all pilots must hold a special license in order to land at the airport. The History Channel Documentary Most Extreme Airports ranked it the third most dangerous airport in the world, behind Toncontin International Airport and Lukla Airport. The airport is served by small regional commercial aircraft and charters. Most visiting aircraft carry fewer than twenty passengers, such as the Twin Otter, a common sight throughout the northern West Indies and as a curiosity, the Canadian-built de Havilland Dash 7 is the largest aircraft ever allowed to operate at this airport. The short airstrip is at the base of a gentle slope ending directly on the beach. The arrival descent is extremely steep over the hilltop traffic circle; departing planes fly right over the heads of sunbathers (although small signs advise sunbathers not to lie directly at the end of the runway). Your mission is to depart from Princess Juliana (TNCM), make a scenic turn around the island of Saba before trying to earn your license by landing on Runway 10 at Gustaf III (TFFJ) with any of the following Canadian Xpress freeware or payware aircraft: • Any single engine piston or turbo prop aircraft. • DeHavilland DHC-6 Twin Otter. • Helicopters are not allowed for this event. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The March 2023 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from March 1st until March 29th, 2023 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.

  4. Why is it a shame? We have Bush, STOL & Floatplanes?
  5. Nothing says February in Ontario like heading east to get in a little skiing. Mont-Tremblant is by far one of the most popular ski resorts in Eastern Canada and is even a popular destination with our neighbors to the south. What makes Mount Tremblant even more popular is its ease of access, with not only a major 4 lane highway that drops you right in to the heart of the resort, but Mont-Tremblant also has its own international airport just minutes away. Your mission is to depart from Quebec City (CYQB) and fly to Mont-Tremblant (CYFJ) with any if the following Canadian Xpress® corporate freeware or payware aircraft: • Beechcraft King Air 350 • Cessna C750 Citation X • Embraer EMB-505 Phenom 300 • Honda HA-420 HondaJet • Pilatus PC-12 • Pilatus PC-24 • Piaggio P-180 Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including any Aerosoft download product from https://www.aerosoft.com/ The February 2023 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from February 1st until February 27th, 2023 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca.

  9. November 2022 marked the 40th year for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Sadly, those 40 years have some dark times. With the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator X in November of 2006, we saw Meigs Field, the airport it made famous around the world, disappear from the scenery list for the first time. In early 2003 claiming safety concerns for the city in the post-911 world, the mayor of Chicago sent bulldozers out to the airport, and had 3 giant Xs dug in to the runway of Meigs Field. Sealing the fate of the airport forever. In late 2007 BAO now renamed Aces Game Studio, announced the availability of licenses of the Microsoft Enterprise Simulation Platform which is the engine that Microsoft Flight Simulator X is based on. Shortly thereafter, the unexpected closure of the Aces Studio in January 2009 was announced, ending MS Flight Simulator development. To try and gain name recognition, startup Dovetail Games released Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition on the popular PC Game marketplace Steam. Tweaking the software engine to run better with the new versions of Windows and fixing the overall stability of the program. In 2017 Dovetail announced FS World as the next version of MSFS but less than a year later development of FS World was canceled. Realizing the demand for home PC flight simulation was still a growing market, in February 2012, Microsoft released a new flight simulator titled Microsoft Flight. All 3rd party support for this new sim was blocked and users were forced into a pay to play system. Not surprisingly with the rising succuss of Lockheed Martin’s Prepar3D built on the FSX ESP, on July 26, 2012, less than 6 months after its release Microsoft cancelled further development of Flight and shutdown it’s servers. Moving in to the 41st year of MSFS, the latest version of Microsoft Flight Simulator known as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 or MSFS 2020 to most of us, has been on the market just over 2 years and is quickly becoming the popular choice for home PC flight simulation. Thanks to the return of 3rd party support, an open SDK, real satellite texture mapping along with full VR support. To celebrate the bright future of Microsoft Flight Simulator and to close out our 40th celebration challenge series. We depart the final default airport in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series and head to one of the default handcrafted airports of MSFS in what is called one of the most the most inspiring places to see in North America. Your mission is to depart from Friday Harbor (KFHR) and fly to Stewart (CZST) with any Canadian Xpress propeller aircraft capable of operating at both airports. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: https://www.aerosoft.com/ The December 2022 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from December 1st until December 29th, 2022 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.
  10. Microsoft Flight Simulator (colloquially known as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020) is an amateur flight simulator developed by Asobo Studio and published by Xbox Game Studios. It is an entry in the Microsoft Flight Simulator series which began in 1982, and was preceded by Microsoft Flight Simulator X in 2006. The game is a return of the series after 14 years, with development beginning six years prior to its release. It was released on August 18, 2020, for Windows, with a virtual reality (VR) version released in December of the same year. Flight Simulator simulates the topography of the entire Earth using data from Bing Maps. Microsoft Azure's artificial intelligence (AI) generates the three-dimensional representations of Earth's features, using its cloud computing to render and enhance visuals, and real-world data to generate real-time weather and effects. Flight Simulator has a physics engine to provide realistic flight control surfaces, with over 1,000 simulated surfaces, as well as realistic wind modelled over hills and mountains. Some places are handcrafted, introduced in region-specific updates. This month, we visit two of those handcrafted airports located in our home county, Canada. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, November 26th at 21h00est (Sunday 02h00z) for our November 2022 fly-in where we will fly from Bella Coola (CYBD) to West Kootenay (CYCG). One lucky Canadian Xpress® pilot* will win: • Any Just Flight Product from: https://www.justflight.com *Please see Fly-In PDF for contest details and eligibility requirements. This is an open invitation to all pilots no matter what your flying experience to attend this Canadian Xpress event that will be flown on the VATSIM network. 11. November marks the 40th year of Microsoft Flight Simulator. In the late 1990s, Microsoft was releasing a new version of Microsoft Flight Simulator every 24-30 months. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 was released in late 1999, with high expectations, as it moved beyond the limited 3,000 airport database with FS98 to nearly 20,000 airports. Worldwide navigational points were also added, which allowed for real world flights, detailed airports, and AI traffic. In the end, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 was a big disappointment for most users due to the minimum specs requiring a Pentium 166 MHz computer, although 400–500 MHz computers were deemed necessary to have any good frame rates. However, even on a high-end system, stuttering was a real problem, especially when performing sharp turns in graphically dense areas. New aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 included the supersonic Aerospatiale-BAC Concorde and the Boeing 777 which had recently entered service at the time. One other change that is overlooked today is that Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000 was the first Microsoft Flight Simulator not to use Meigs Field as its default airport. Boeing Field was set as the default airport, mostly due to the release of the Boeing 777 and the expanded airport database. It was felt users would move to the larger aircraft more often, so a larger airport was chosen. Your mission is to depart from Boeing Field (KBFI) and fly to Calgary (CYYC) with the Canadian Xpress Boeing 777-200, Boeing 777-300 (or Boeing 737-700 if you do not have access to the B772 or B77W) freeware or payware aircraft which are available to all pilots regardless of rank, but only for the challenge. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: https://www.aerosoft.com/ The November 2022 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from November 1st until November 29th, 2022 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.
  12. Fly the Canadian Xpress Australian Adventure Tour Australia, the largest country of the continent of Oceania, is also one of the flattest and driest countries in the world. That doesn't mean it's devoid of life or interesting places. On the contrary, the country is full of wonders, from the grasslands of the southwest, to the savanna in the north, the rainforests of the east and the world-renowned Outback, Australia is full of things to discover. Small aircraft are an essential mode of transportation in and out of many parts of the country and for remote communities, a critical lifeline for medical aid (flying doctor) flights. Outside of the major cities, many airports are unprepared grass, gravel, dirt or sand strips. Some airports do not have fuel or navigational aids and our tour will reflect this. Tourism is by far the largest industry in the region, with vacationers from all corners of the globe, arriving by boat and by plane at all times of the year. Some stay only a few hours before moving on to the next island in the chain, while others stay for days or even weeks. Tropical storms and typhoons are also frequent and can cause devastating effects on the islands and their inhabitants. The Canadian Xpress Australian Adventure Tour consists of 66 legs which must be flown in order. Departing from the Tasmanian capital of Hobart, you will visit some of Australia's most famous natural wonders, including Ayers Rock (Uluru), Kangaroo Island, Tasmania, Sydney Harbour, the Gold Coast and the Great Barrier Reef. Through out the tour, you will visit all eight capitals and every biome and region the country has to offer, including some of the most remote airports in the world (so plan your fuel accordingly), finally landing in the nation's capital of Canberra. Join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca and fly the Australian Adventure Tour! *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.
  13. November marks the 40th year for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Microsoft Flight Simulator began as a set of articles on computer graphics, written by Bruce Artwick throughout 1976, about flight simulation using 3D graphics. When the editor of the magazine told Artwick that subscribers were interested in purchasing such a program, Artwick founded Sublogic Corporation to commercialize his ideas. At first the new company sold flight simulators through mail order, but that changed in January 1979 with the release of Flight Simulator (FS) for the Apple II. Between 1979 and 1981, Sublogic adapted FS to several other home computer platforms. But things really took off in 1981 when Microsoft contacted Bruce Artwick to develop a new flight simulator for IBM compatible PCs. This version was released in November 1982 as Microsoft Flight Simulator. It featured an improved graphics engine, variable weather and time of day, and a new coordinate system. Advertisements claimed, "If flying your IBM PC got any more realistic, you'd need a license", and promised "a full-color, out-the-window flight display". Early versions of Microsoft Flight Simulator were used as a test for PC compatibility. If a computer could run Microsoft Flight Simulator and Lotus 1-2-3, it was 100% IBM PC-compatible. Originally Chicago was the only scenery, with only 3 airports to operate from up until version 4. This month we recreate the default flight in Chicago to celebrate the beginning of something great. With the original FS default airport no longer in service, your mission is depart Michigan City Municipal (KMGC) and fly over what was Meigs Field and north along the Lake Michigan shoreline to Kenosha, before turning back south along the lake shore to land back at Michigan City Municipal (KMGC) which must cover a flight distance minimum of 100nm. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: https://www.aerosoft.com/ The October 2022 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from October 1st until October 29th, 2022 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.
  14. The West Coast of the United States is known as the Golden Coast due to the golden color of the pacific sunsets. which the Western United States meets the North Pacific Ocean. The term typically refers to the contiguous U.S. states of California, Oregon, and Washington. According to the results of the 2020 United States Census, 16 of the 20 largest cities on the West Coast exist in California. Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Jose, all among the top 10 most populous cities in the country, lead the West Coast in population with more than a million people in each city, with Los Angeles being nearly three times the size of San Diego's population. Behind these three cities, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland are respectively fourth, fifth and sixth in population. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, September 24th at 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our September 2022 fly-in where we will fly from Seattle (KSEA) to San Francisco (KSFO). One lucky Canadian Xpress® pilot* will win: • Any Just Flight Product from: https://www.justflight.com *Please see Fly-In PDF for contest details and eligibility requirements. 15. Corporate Travel is a fair amount of charter business here at Canadian Xpress. However, when talked about. The first thing that comes to most pilots is a trip to some far-off place in our 737BBJ or Citation X. When really, most are not a trip to some exotic place. Rather, they are shorter flights where 3 or 4 people are traveling for a day’s business and the distance to cover doesn’t make financial sense to drive for 2 days and book several nights of hotel rooms and cover meals. This month's challenge is exactly that type of charter. We’ve been contracted for a business flight to Fort St. John a 320nm flight that should take about an hour. Your mission is to fly from Edmonton (CYEG) to Fort St. John (CYXJ) with any of the following freeware or payware Canadian Xpress aircraft that you have the rank to fly: • BAe JetStream 31 • Beechcraft B1900D • Beechcraft King Air 350 • Boeing 737 BBJ • Cessna C750 Citation X • Embraer Phenom 300 • Mitsubishi MU-2B • Piaggio P-180 Avanti • Pilatus PC-12 • Pilatus PC-24 Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: https://www.aerosoft.com/ The September 2022 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from September 1st until September 29th, 2022 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.
  16. San Diego International Airport, formerly known as Lindbergh Field, is an international airport three miles northwest of Downtown San Diego, California, United States. It is owned and operated by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority. While primarily serving domestic traffic, San Diego has nonstop international flights to destinations in Canada, Germany, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, and Switzerland. San Diego International Airport is the second busiest single-runway airport in the world. The airport's landing approach is well known for its close proximity to the skyscrapers of Downtown San Diego and can sometimes prove difficult to pilots for the relatively short usable landing area, steep descent angle over the crest of Bankers Hill, and shifting wind currents just before landing. San Diego International operates in controlled airspace served by the Southern California TRACON, which is some of the busiest airspace in the world. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, August 27th at 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our August 2022 fly-in where we will fly from Phoenix Sky Harbor (KPHX) to San Diego (KSAN). 17. Closing out our National Park Tour, we make the ultimate GA tour of several Ontario Provincial and Canadian National Parks in Ontario that should cover a minimum of 260nm. Departing from Toronto Billy Bishop, we head towards Wiarton passing over Mono Cliffs Provincial Park. As the name suggests, the park has several cliffs faces along the Niagara Escarpment itself. Along the Cliff Top Trail is a sturdy set of stairs which descend about 30 meters (98 ft) down the rock face to a wooden path that runs between the cliff face and a small outlier, providing excellent views of the rock, ferns, and cedars. Passing Wiarton we fly over serval Provincial Nature Reserves, of Hope Bay, Lions Head, and Smokey Head-White Bluff. Before we enter Bruce Peninsula National Park. Located on a part of the Niagara Escarpment, the park comprises 156 square kilometers and is one of the largest protected areas in southern Ontario, forming the core of UNESCO's Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve. It was established in 1987 to protect the rock formations and shoreline of the Niagara Escarpment. The park offers opportunities for many outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, and bird watching. The park has trails ranging in difficulty from easy to expert and connects to the Bruce Trail. Bruce Peninsula National Park is known for its crystal-clear blue waters, cobblestone beaches, rocky cliffs, and karst formations. Clearing the peninsula, we find ourselves over Fathom Five National Marine National Park. A National Marine Conservation Area in the Georgian Bay part of Lake Huron, that seeks to protect and display shipwrecks and lighthouses, and conserve freshwater ecosystems. The many shipwrecks make the park a popular scuba diving destination, and glass bottom boat tours leave Tobermory regularly, allowing tourists to see the shipwrecks without having to get wet. Fathom Five also contains numerous islands, notably Flowerpot Island, which has rough camping facilities, marked trails, and its namesake flowerpots, outlying stacks of escarpment cliff that stand a short distance from the island, most with vegetation (including trees) still growing on them. Heading out over Manitoulin Island, we pass over Misery Bay Provincial Park. Misery Bay is a freshwater bay on Manitoulin Island in Ontario. It is noted for its alvars, and large dolomite pavements ground flat by glaciers. It also contains grykes and ecologically significant wetlands. Your mission is to fly from Toronto Island (CYTZ) to Sault Ste Marie (CYAM) ) with any Canadian Xpress general aviation freeware or payware aircraft that you have the rank to fly and are rated for operations for these airports. Join Canadian Xpress today in order to participate as there are some great prizes to be won including: Any Aerosoft Download Product from: https://www.aerosoft.com/ The August 2022 Monthly Challenge is open to all Canadian Xpress pilots from August 1st until August 29th, 2022 so join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca . *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other Virtual airline hours with no limits.
  18. Fly the Canadian Xpress Long Haul Tour Get your longhaullers out and make sure the galley is stocked with lots of coffee. The age of the widebody has made our world smaller than ever, with aircraft able to fly incredible distances to connect two distant cities on opposite sides of the planet. The Canadian Xpress Long Haul Tour consists of 20 long flights that must be flown in order, that will connect Asia to eastern North America and Australia to the UK. It's going to get cold, too. Three of the flights will take you within a few hundred miles of the north pole. Make sure you point that out to your passengers. Join Canadian Xpress today by visiting https://canadianxpress.ca and fly the Long Haul Tour! *Canadian Xpress accepts 50% of your VATSIM, IVAO or other virtual airline hours with no limits.
  19. Hawaii is a state in the Western United States, located in the Pacific Ocean about 2,000 miles from the U.S. mainland. It is the only U.S. state outside North America, the only state that is an archipelago and the only state in the tropics. Hawaii is also one of several U.S. states that were independent nations prior to joining the Union. Hawaii comprises nearly the entire Hawaiian archipelago, 137 volcanic islands spanning 1,500 miles (2,400 km). The eight main islands, from northwest to southeast, are Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Kahoolawe, Maui, and Hawaii, after which the state is named; it is often called the "Big Island" or "Hawaii Island" to avoid confusion with the state or archipelago. The uninhabited Northwestern Hawaiian Islands make up most of the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument, the nation's largest protected area and the third largest in the world. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, July 30th at 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our July 2022 fly-in where we will fly from Lihue (PHLI) to Kahului (PHOG). 20. Yellowstone National Park is an American national park located in the western United States, largely in the northwest corner of Wyoming and extending into Montana and Idaho. It was established by the 42nd U.S. Congress with the Yellowstone National Park Protection Act and signed into law by President Ulysses S. Grant on March 1, 1872. Yellowstone was the first national park in the U.S. and is also widely held to be the first national park in the world. Yellowstone Lake is one of the largest high-elevation lakes in North America and is centered over the Yellowstone Caldera, the largest super volcano on the continent. The caldera is considered a dormant volcano. It has erupted with tremendous force several times in the last two million years. Well over half of the world's geysers and hydrothermal features are in Yellowstone, fueled by this ongoing volcanism. Lava flows and rocks from volcanic eruptions cover most of the land area of Yellowstone. This month we are on a tour of Yellowstone Lake and the Caldera, a flight that should cover a minimum of 100nm. Your mission is to fly from Yellowstone Regional (KCOD) to Yellowstone (KWYS) with any Canadian Xpress low speed equipped freeware or payware aircraft that you have the rank to fly and are rated for operations for these airports. 21. Queenstown is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island with an urban population of 15,450. The town is built around an inlet called Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu, a long, thin, Z-shaped lake formed by glacial processes and has views of nearby mountains such as The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Walter Peak and just above the town, Ben Lomond, and Queenstown Hill. Queenstown is situated on the shore of Lake Wakatipu, the third largest lake by surface area in New Zealand. The town is located close to the lake's northeastern bend, at which point a small arm, the Frankton Arm, joins the lake with its principal outflow, the Kawarau River. The center of the town is on the north shore at the point where the Frankton Arm links with the main body of the lake, but also extends to the major suburb of Frankton at the eastern end of the arm, and across to Kelvin Heights on the Kelvin Peninsula, which forms the Frankton Arm's southern shore. Canadian Xpress would like to invite all pilots to join us on Saturday, June 25th at 21h00edt (Sunday 01h00z) for our June 2022 fly-in where we will fly from Auckland (NZAA) to Queenstown (NZQN). 22. There are 5 national parks in Iceland and this month we visit 3 of them. Starting in Reykjavik, we depart and work our way east to find Thingvellir National Park. Thingvellir National Park is home to the iconic Gullfoss waterfall, and the Mid-Atlantic rift. From here we make a 110nm trip into the heart of the island nation to Vatnajokull National Park. Vatnajokull National Park is a protected wilderness area in south Iceland centered around Vatnajokull glacier. Defined by massive glaciers, ice caves, snowy mountain peaks, active geothermal areas, and rivers. Next, we turn south and explore Skaftafell. Skaftafell became part of Vatnajokull National Park in 2008 and is hope to Iceland’s highest peak. From there it’s a quick jump to our landing airport of Fagurholsmyri. These parks can easily be located on a map by Googling "National Parks of Iceland". A direct GPS flight between the 3 parks, will cover around 180mn. Your mission is to fly from Reykjavik (BIRK) to Fagurholsmyri (BIFM) with any Canadian Xpress freeware or payware propeller aircraft that you have the rank to fly and are rated for operations for these airports. 23. Juneau was named the capital of Alaska in 1906, when the government of what was then the District of Alaska was moved from Sitka as dictated by the U.S. Congress in 1900. Downtown Juneau is nestled at the base of Mount Juneau and across the channel from Douglas Island. Juneau experiences a daily influx of roughly 6,000 people from visiting cruise ships between the months of May and September. Juneau is unique among the 49 U.S. capitals on mainland North America in that there are no roads connecting the city to the rest of the state nor North America. The absence of a road network is due to the extremely rugged terrain surrounding the city. This in turn makes Juneau a de facto island city in terms of transportation, since all goods coming in and out must go by plane or boat, despite the city's location on the Alaskan mainland.
