  1. Rick, James, & Larry - thanks for looking and the good words - much appreciated.

     

    Looks great as always Bill! What method do you use to share/attach your screenshots? My photos always come up very small or truncated when I manually attach them using "manage attachments" under the "additional options" at the bottom of the page.

     

    Rick: I don't use "Manage Attachments." I use the "Insert Image" icon which lets you select the image and then uploads and puts the capture directly into the post at full size. See this screenshot with arrow indicating the icon. Hope this helps!

  2. Here are some shots of a Reeve Aleutian Airways Lockheed L188 "Electra II" on an approach into Runway 26 at Benny Benson State Airport (PADQ) on Kodiak Island, Alaska in the Aleutian Island chain.

     

    This is an interesting approach because of the 2563 foot mountain sitting immediately at the end of the runway. It makes a late go around decision very risky once you're committed to landing - especially if the weather is IMC :eek::eek: Fortunately its a crystal clear VFR day for our approach. Should be a piece of cake.

  3. GREAT SHOTS I like the last screenshot showing well worn and very dirty engine covers. Who painted that livery in the last screenshot please??

     

    Allow me to quote words of famous Buffalo Joe on the Electra plane. He said that you got to be careful handling the engines because they are so powerful that they can rip themselves off the wings

     

     

    The Varig is by Fabio Cabral. Fabio has done a bunch of FSX Electra liveries. Not sure if they're in the library here - can get them at Avsim.

     

    Pilots love the Electra engines because of both the power and - more important - the instant response. Jets take a few seconds to spool up to full power when the power is advanced - turboprops are instant. So if you need power in a hurry to get out of a jam they're the ticket.

  4. Brings back memories of many, many business flights in the 60's from Rochester, NY, to Chicago - forgot which airline, but I think it was American. The entire plane was Business Class, the rear end of the cabin had semi-circular sofa seat, and free cocktails were served by stewardesses (they were in those days), who were all young and pretty wearing miniskirt uniforms. Those were the good old days!

    Yes - those were indeed "the good old days." Big seats with lots of leg room, actual meals inflight, and friendly perky flight attendants.

     

    What a concept!!! :D:D

     

    Next up for pics - the Electra's more long lived and very close cousin - the Navy P-3. Which reminds me - GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!!!

  5. Here are some shots of the Lockheed L188 Electra. This is the Team FS KBT model converted over to FS2020 from FSX.

     

    An Eastern Airlines Electra on approach to Orlando International Airport (KMCO). This airplane has the famous "Hockey Stick" livery and the U.S. Bi-Centennial logo indicating a 1976 timeframe - shortly before Eastern retired all of its Electras.

    A Varig Brazilian Airlines Electra on the ramp in Rio de Janeiro. Varig picked up many of Eastern's L188's when they were retired and used them on the Rio to Sao Paulo shuttle in much the same way Eastern had used them on the hourly DC to New York shuttle.

    A shot of the sleek turboprop engine nacelles on the L188. If you ever heard the distinctive whine of the Electra's Allison D501 engines (or the T-56 military version on the P-3 and C-130) it was a sound you would never forget and instantly recognize!

    I notice that you've posted a number of shots of other aircraft in FS2020 that look like they're from FSX.

     

    Can you convert FSX aircraft to flyable models - or know someone who does? Two of my (and lots of other simmers) favorite airplanes from FSX are the Lockheed L188 Electra and its cousin the military P3 that were developed by Team FS KBT.

     

    Using a community conversion tool I found on the official MS FS2020 discussion forum I was able to import the visual models into FS2020 but that's as far as I can go. Here are example screenshots of the 2 aircraft visual models.

    The airplane VC and gauges, engines, and flight controls don't work. I'm sure there's a way to get them going but it's well beyond my knowledge. Can you help? These are some of the best freeware aircraft from FSX. The visual detail as you can see from the shots is payware quality. If a way could be found to make them flyable I think it would be greatly appreciated in the community.

    Here are some shots of an FSX CP-140 converted over to FS2020. The good news is the visual model is awesome! The bad news is I can't figure out how to convert the cockpit gauges or get the engines or flight controls to work - so no flying.

     

    Hopefully someone smarter than me can figure it out and get this bird in the air .:confused:

    Runway lineup and takeoff then turning on course and passing over LaGuardia Airport (KLGA) as we climb out. Sharp eyed stargazers will be able to pick out the constellation "Orion" rising above the middle horizon to the right of KLGA on this clear night.

    Our flight plan route takes us over most of New England. In this shot towards the tail end of that segment the city of Portland Maine and Portland Airport (KPWM) is visible below the wing from our cruise altitude of FL390. We'll shortly be entering Canadian airspace on our route which takes us past the Canadian Maritimes, over Newfoundland, then across the North Atlantic, Ireland and the UK and on into EHAM.

  10. In this FS2020 series an American Airlines A320 taxis out, makes a night takeoff from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (KDFW) and turns on course for a flight to Los Angeles (KLAX). Due to my 4 year old laptop GPU limitations the FS2020 graphics settings in these shots are on "Medium"

  11. Great shots an narrative. :pilot: Sanford's airport is nice because Allegiant now flies from Flint, MI to there. From the Sanford airport my Florida house is only 15 minute drive. Much better than having to fly into Orlando or Daytona.

     

    Thanks David. Looking at the arrivals and departures for Sanford it looks like Allegiant is one of the main users these days. Quite a bit different from the RA-5Cs parked on the ramp that I remember from landing there a couple of times in the late 60's when it was still a Navy master jet base! :D

  12. Stargazers here on the forum will recognize the Pleiades star cluster - aka "The Seven Sisters" - in the center of this shot taken out the cockpit window of an FS2020 A320. The photo insert shows the real world star cluster.

     

    The airplane is heading south after departing Boston's Logan International Airport (KBOS). The position of the Pleiades as viewed in the sim is correct for today's date and the local Boston time when the shot was taken.
