  1. I play flightsim because I find aviation interesting and want to learn more about it. And because I like to learn and practice certain skills. There is no nostalgia involved for me. You went to Bali with my girlfriend? And she didn't tell me? :p
  2. Both are nice and I would like to have a choice with the older planes. Add one version with old fashioned gauges and one with a modern glass cockpit. I wonder how easy it will be to modify the panel and gauges.
  3. If you're certain that you're not going to use it then there is no reason to keep it installed. But it will take some time for the quality addons to come to FS2020. Scenery and weather in FS2020 may be better but the classic or quality planes may not be there at the start. Keeping P3D at hand would be useful if you ever need to get back to those special planes in the mean time. And if you still have enough room on your PC then what would you win by removing P3D early? P3D and FS2020 will not bite eachother.
  4. Have you ever: -Installed something directly to F:\fs9? -Moved things between C:\fs9 and F:\fs9? It could be that the installer for VOZ will not just install where you first point it to but also look up paths in the registry or configuration files. If the registry or files in C:\fs9 contain paths to F:\fs9 then the installer could put things in the wrong place. Where did the files actually go to? Did some really go to F:\fs9? Another option is that the installation on F:\fs9 has links to C:\fs9 or looks in the registry where it finds such links. In that case the VOZ installer worked fine but the installation in F:\fs9 has issues. Search the registry for "C:\fs9" and "F:\fs9". Also do a text search in Windows Explorer in each for both "C:\fs9" and "F:\fs9" to find any wrong configuration files. Another test is to rename one folder and then start the sim from the other. Then anything that is broken will in some way be related to the other side. --- --- --- What is the reason for this setup? Is one a backup in case something happens to the main installation? Or do you like to switch between to completely different environments?
  5. This discussion? https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/221334-why-is-the-crash-model-so-forgiving/ I don't have X Plane so I don't know how it handles crashes. If an aircraft is properly modeled then it should also come with any unrecoverable situations it could get into. For example a deep stall where you no longer have control over the aircraft's attitude. Interaction with terrain should also be modeled in some way. Not all aircraft always land on designated runways. For example, you could be able to land your piper cub on some soggy terrain but only if you do it just right. Or making an emergency landing on the water with an airliner. If it is modeled well you can learn something from it. But these are not so extreme crashes. If I were to fly a jet straigt down into the ground then I wouldn't care much if the sim would make it bounce back into the stratosphere or stops it dead.
  6. Back in the day there were 'Virtual Squadrons' that would fly a certain sim and/or aircraft and train together. You could look for one that accepts inexperienced pilots and offers training.
  7. The stick looks nice. It basically is a T16000 with a different handle. I wonder what the throttle will feature. Will they just be simple analog axes? Or will they feature detents like in Airbusses? It appears to be limited to just two axes. This is fine for twin engine jets but for (turbo)props you need more. The Honeycomb Bravo offers much more. (and probably costs more)
  8. I'm confused: You speak of a DC4 and DC4 gauges. The aircraft.cfg is from a DC7. The panel references DC6 gauges and added DC4 fuelgauges. What exactly are you using? What works and what doesn't? Edit: I checked with the calclassic DC7 and JBK DC4 and the gauges work fine here.
  9. Can you post the aircraft.cfg and panel.cfg? If the gauges are xml gauges, post them too. Even better, upload the aircraft's whole installation somewhere so we can check it. Could the fuel gauges be dependant on some other switch or system that is not turned on? If you add some known good fuel gauge to the panel does that correctly show the fuellevel?
  10. Which DC-4? Which file did you download and install?
  11. Which simulator? Just Flight has Duchesses for FS2004, FSX, P3D, Aerofly FS 2 and X-plane. https://www.justflight.com/searchresults?category=products&query=duchess Can you give us a recording of the sound and explain exactly when you hear it? I would first determine what the clicking sound is for. Maybe it meant to be there. When does it occur? Look around in the plane's files to see if you can find the file for the sound and see what is it related to. One thing that comes to mind: Are you perhaps overspeeding? In MSFS this will sound a ticking sound in some of the default planes.
  12. The Me-262 performs best at high speed and is most vulnerable when low and slow, like when on takeoff and landing. The Allies would exploit that by attacking over their airfields. The Germans would defend the Me-262s by placing flak and fighter patrols near the airfields and approach routes.
  13. Where are you located? What do you need help with?
  14. Basically they are different simulators and they will not be compatible in all cases. Do you specifically mean CFS1? That is much older than FS9. (1998 vs 2003) Much will have changed over the years, even if they are related. I found this compatibility table: http://simviation.com//fs_compatibility.htm
  15. I did get the very high nose up attitude as well when I tried with the Mooney. Getting it down and slow from altitude wasn't a problem but around 80 knots the nose did come up very high and it was impossible to see the runway on final. If you think that a file could be corrupted then you can find the originals on CD1 in msgame1.cab. I compared checksums for the installed files and the files on the CD and they were identical.

It sounds as if you mixed up the existing DirectX installation with an older version. I would uninstall DirectX and then reinstall the latest version for your OS. You could even install FS98 again but skip the Directplay 5.0.
  17. I would not make any changes to an aircraft's files unless you know that they are wrong. The descent and approach will take some planning and you will have to start early enough. Walk us through one of your approaches and then we can give some more input. -Wich aircraft. -Altitudes. -Speeds. -Descentrates. -Distances. -Powersettings. -Configurations. -Times.
  18. Also a good example, but it should be modeled on a realistic feedbackloop. Not making pireps will not magically cause bad weather in real life nor will you get a fine if you don't meet some quotum. In real life you receive pireps because there is a community and that community can only exist when members are willing to give pireps to that community. The sim could model this by making AI pilots make as much (or as little) reports as the player does. I wonder what AI/machinelearning could do to characterize how you behave as a simulated pilot and then have the AI pilots mirror that. Would you like to share the sky yourself?
  19. Apart from onboard systems Gremlins can be inserted in much more aspects of flying. For example, there could be a small chance of another aircraft not noticing you so you actually need to look out for traffic. And if you don't turn on the correct lights then that chance would increase a bit. Or incomplete radar coverage for ATC so reporting your position can actually make a difference. Or airlines that are in the process of transitioning from imperial to metric.
  20. I would also like to see this. If systems are modeled deep enough then having to troubleshoot in flight would be an interesting and educational experience as well. A maintenance and repair module would be a good addition to this as well. How about a option to have a shared or rental plane that will fetch the state in which another random user left that type? AFAIK only A2A has this with their accu-sim planes. Could it be that MS may be afraid to offend aircraftmanufacturers if they state that on plane X system Y will fail Z% of the time or is too pessimistic about how much impact the landing gear can handle?
  21. This airline commander? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.rortos.realflight&hl=nl Which aircraft are you flying? Are you sure that it can make 560 knots at 36100 ft? By "setting the speed to 560" do you mean the autothrottle? Just because you can set the autothrottle to 560 kts doesn't mean that the aitcraft can make that speed. Additionally: Do you know the difference between indicated airspeed and true airspeed?
  22. What made you narrow it down to FS2020 and X-Plane 11? Why did you exclude other sims, like P3D? And what do you want to do with the simulator? General aviation? Commercial? Military? Are you interested in a specific region or aircraft? FS2020 looks promising but we have yet to see the actual release. X-Plane and P3D are available now and you know what you get. Also, X-Plane and P3D will have many addons to choose from while FS2020 will initially only have 'default' aircraft until addon developers get interested.
  23. STARs do not lead to a runway but to the Initial Approach Fix (IAF) of one or more instrument approaches or to a point where you should expect radar vectoring towards an IAF. You should decide which runway you will land on and then choose a suitable instrument approach leading to that runway. Then you pick a STAR that connects where you are coming from to that instrument approach. If you are coming from the east then you should not pick a STAR that starts in the west. And if you want to start the approach from the south then you should pick a STAR that ends in the south. In the simulator this will be up to you. In real life ATC may offer some input. Charts for many airfields can be found online as pdfs. They will contain SIDs, STARs, airport diagrams and approach charts. Post a flight that you want to fly (departure, destination and route) and we can give you some more specific advice.
