PS:  Maybe it's just me.  But the new MS Flight Simulator is no fun to play with....

Welcome to the forum(s). As above, It's not just you. Many folks have given up on MSFS for a variety of reasons......Doug

  2. Sounds cool. My ham radio hobby is kind of dormant right now ever since a tornado in 2018 wiped out all my antennas. I got the insurance money but decided just to put my equipment in storage until we move to our retirement home (as yet not found) in Arkansas or Tennessee.

I do miss it though and this sounds like something I could mess with without having to put up an antenna farm!

Somehow, without the antenna farm(s) things just don't feel right. But I guess that's just because I'm an old fart now and trying to relive a part of my youth. 73, Doug - W2DR

  3. I have quite a few hours in 737 Level D's and a couple of hours with the 767 and 747. And I gotta tell ya...you're going to love it. One thing you might want to consider is deciding what you want to do before you get there. Takeoffs and touch-and goes? What airport(s)? Maybe even a short IFR with a CAT III landing (KSJC-KSFO is a really good one). Here's what you can look forward to:

  4. It's funny how people mix/confuse 'update' of 'driver' and 'latest version' of 'driver'. If you bought your video card in 2015 then you need specific 'drivers' (a ('correct') version of driver(s)) for that card (for that year). You can't just download the 'latest driver' IF THERE is NO 'UPDATE' for 2015 drivers. You are stuck with THAT driver (for that year) for that card. Drivers alone can not perform 'miracles'. Sorry.

Example: GTX 1080 bought in 2017 will not work with drivers released 2018 - 2021. This is a 'Windows' (especially Win 10) problem and not a Nvidia problem. If you want to 'use' the 'latest drivers' from Nvidia then you must 'upgarde' your VIDEO CARD, not just the drivers. In 'real' life here is no free lunch!

And re-install of FSX has nothing to do with screen resolution problem(s). You monitor has/has not capability of 1920x1080 res -AND- your video card has/has not capability of 1920x1080 res. One (or both) is your 'problem'. So: get a newer monitor -or- get a newer video card. Or both.

Truer words were never spoken. If a driver release has updates specific to your GPU then do the update. Otherwise don't. All this "use the newest driver" talk is nonsense. Always remember...if it ain't broke. don't fix it.

  5. It could be one of two things. It sounds like the stick has either a rubber-coated plastic handle or one that's all rubber. If it's rubber coated you may be able to get the "stickies" off by scrubbing it with isopropyl alcohol or simply scraping it off. If it's all rubber there isn't any cure I know of. What I've learned here in Florida is that most rubber-anything will get the "stickies" if stored in a warm, humid environment like the garage or any place that lacks some sort of humidity control.
  6. well, I really wonder on what basis most of you are judging how the aircraft fly in MSFS (or in the other sims).

It all looks great, neat and tidy. But it is what it is, a sim.

I am currently getting my PPL rating and honestly... the sim is worthless. Of course you will learn where the nobs are, get to know the aircraft and manipulate stuff. But more than this? completely worthless. I can land a Cessna in the dark with 60 knots of wind and gusts all around in the sim. But real landing is a totally different story. The whole flying experience in the real world is something else.

My point here is that there is no real point in complaining on how "real" the planes are in the sim. They are not. Period.

My point exactly. Maybe only those of us who have flown the real thing can know just how far from reality the default aircraft truly are. Indeed, it's a game not a sim. Nice eye candy though.

  7. The ORBX products don't need updating specifically for P3Dv5.2. They will all install just fine. If any point updates are needed after the install ORBX Central will update whatever is needed. That's one thing I really like about ORBX...they never make you buy anything twice.
  8. Finally, a voice of sanity. At least someone knows what's really going on is trying to kill the insane rumors. The shortage of GPU's is one of the smaller problems created by the worldwide chip shortage.
