  1. Hi all, If anyone is looking for a new project, may I propose a Silk Air repaint for the FSX default 737-800? I travelled with them last year on my very first overseas trip and I'm feeling nostalgic! I have absolutely zero skill when it comes to this sort of stuff and would really appreciate the effort anyone might like to give this. Cheers. Trent
  2. Hi all, I recently stumbled across the Perfect Flight FSX Missions KLM B737-800 in the FlightSim Store. What intrigued me was the advertised high resolution textures for the default 737-800 VC panel. The included images aren't particularly clear and it's too difficult to tell how improved these textures are. If anyone has this product, would you kindly post a couple of images of the VC so I can make a better decision about whether to purchase this product or not. Much appreciated! Trent
  3. You'll find the wiper switches (x2) on the overhead panel, just above the engine starter switches. See picture below. They're multi stage switches. Right click to increase the speed of the wipers, left click to slow down and return to off.
  4. A little while ago, I had problems where FSX would intermittently stop responding to keyboard commands. Turned out that my wireless keyboard itself was the culprit, beginning to break down. If you're using a wireless mouse, perhaps ensure there is nothing wrong with the mouse itself? Just a thought.
  5. Hi all, It's been many years since Alejandro Rojas Lucena released his wonderful upgraded VC for the FSX default 737-800. This has provided many simmers (including myself) with gazillions of enjoyable flight hours and has been the only option available for an improved VC. Until now. Last week I uploaded my own enhanced VC. I was absolutely delighted when I found out flightsim.com were promoting this as one of their 'files of the day'. A big thank you to flightsim.com staff! This awareness has helped my baby become one of the top 100 downloaded files over the last year within the space of a week. If you like driving the FSX default 737-800 around (with or without alrot's upgraded VC), then you'll love the additional features in my own enhanced VC that I'm calling the Defaultimate 737 (search for defaultimate737.zip in the file library). New features include: Enhanced cabin lighting including a dome white switch with dim and bright settings and reworked night textures Panel lights can now be used any time of the day making dawn and dusk transitions even more fun Switchable and dimmable display units (PFDs, MFDs) Engine starter switches now include FLT & CONT settings Working Autobrake switch Functional Cross Feed switch Functional Fuel Pumps Majority of switches are animated Taxi and Landing light ground splashes are now decoupled Lots of bug fixes And many more features! One of my beta testers has taken a couple of awesome screenies below. If you like what you see, head over to the file library and get downloading! Trent Note how the panel lights are on during the day? A gloomy day to be sure. Also note the wiper animation and the missing control columns? The visibility of the control columns can be toggled in order to easily access the functional display unit brightness knobs. Note the new engine starter switches which now have FLT & CONT settings. Note the improved night lighting textures. Note that it is now possible to have the taxi light on only.
  6. Hi pomak249, This package enhances the existing default FSX 737-800 by updating some files but not all. This package is not the complete aircraft. Can you confirm 1) that you copied over the existing files only, not the entire folder? If so, restore your backup and confirm the backed up default FSX 737-800 is working ok before doing anything further. Contact me at the email address included in the documentation for ongoing support 2) Do you have FSX Acceleration SP2? This packaged wasn't tested under anything less than that. Could you confirm your version of FSX with me? I trust we can get this up and running for you.
  7. Hi Steve, Thank you for your interest in my problem! I'm running the DX10 fixer version 2.9 (as I run the sim virtually stock, there wasn't a great need to upgrade following 2.9) and I can't see the "Full Alpha Test" option in the Debug screen. I'm about to email you for further support. Thanks again. Trent
  8. Hi all, Apologies for the late response...I've been busy with work. I just wanted to thank everyone for their input and very clear explanations. Really appreciated. Thanks again. Trent
  9. Hi all, I was blessed to be able to enjoy a week in Cambodia earlier this year, my first ever taste of international travel. Reminiscing about the experience tonight led me to the FS9/FS2004 Siam Reap International Airport add on. Pretty cheap now, and I was able to get it for half price too. Woo hoo. This is my first airport add on. I managed to get it in to FSX:SE ok. I get some strange texture anomalies which I'm a bit lost for words in explaining, so it made it hard googling too. Refer to the attached picture to see what I mean. The textures in the foreground appear to be making the textures in the background translucent. Is this a common thing with importing FS9/FS2004 scenery into FSX:SE? For what it's worth, as it may be a factor, I am using Steve's DX10 fixer. No other add ons of note. I pretty much run FSX:SE stock. I'm hoping this is a common issue that someone might be able to point me in the right direction in terms of getting resolved. I appreciate any help I can get. Lastly, is it possible to increase the distance for which objects 'pop-in' to the picture? Or is this something that can't be edited because it's built into the scenery model files? Thanks everyone. Trent
  10. Hi all, I'm trying to get in touch with 2x people who have made various edits to the FSX default 737-800 gauges in order to ask for permission to include their work in an upcoming freeware release of my own. I've not been able to get in touch with them through the details provided on their respective readme.txt files. Their names are Gary Davies and Csaba Saghi. If anyone knows of these two authors could you help me get in touch with them? Ta. Trent
  11. Hi all, Ok, that's great! Thanks for that clear response Nels. Dogdish, unfortunately my modelling ability is pretty poor and removing the eyebrow windows is a bit beyond my skill at this point. However if I ever learn how to do it, I'll do it for you. I reckon I'll need another month or two to put the finishing touches on my improved 737 VC and put some documentation together and I'll have a beta ready for some testing. Any volunteers? A couple of questions while I'm at it. See the attached picture. Notice that part of the panel that seems detached. The part I've put an arrow on. I'm thinking about pushing that forward (like I had to with the displaced caution and warning lights on the co-pilots side - boxed in red. Did you ever notice that?). Do you think that it should be further forward? To my eye, it looks a little bit wrong where it is, with that gap that runs between it. That, or get rid of it altogether? I think maybe push it forward. Also, I've created independent wiper animations (with the help of Bill Leaming over at fsdeveloper.com. Wonderful chap!) You can turn one on or the other, or of course both. They're a bit of fun but not much use because unlike Alejandro's VC, I haven't added any rain effects. The static rain template just isn't to my taste. However, the question I have is does anyone know if in the real 737, when both wipers are switched on, do they wipe in a synchronised fashion, or will they operate in an un-synchronised fashion? I could look up some video on youtube, but thought I might as well ask :). Lastly, a late easter egg hunt for everyone. Can anyone spot the extra VC functionality I've added in the screenshot? Trent
  12. Hi all, Around 12 months ago, perhaps longer, I was referred to Alejandro Rojas Lucena's most excellent improved default 737 Virtual Cockpit (VC) for FSX. If I recall correctly that particular VC has been recommended several times on the forums here at FlightSim.com. This was a great improvement to the default 737 VC and I really enjoyed flying it (as many others also have and still do). At some point, the problematic auto-brake knob animation in this VC really started to bug me. So began an unexpected process of learning about how VCs are created and how I might go about fixing it. This turned into a personal obsession for me and I've sunk more hours into improving the default 737 VC from scratch than I care to admit. Alejandro's VC was a source of great inspiration to me and now my upgraded VC has surpassed his in many area's of functionality. I really enjoy flying the default 737, as I'm sure many do (and I'm fully aware the PMDG offering is second-to-none, just not for me) and I would really like to share my upgraded VC with the flight sim community of whom have given me so much pleasure in discussion and freeware over many many years. However I believe that for some, perhaps many, the editing and improving of FSX default aircraft VCs is a bit of a no-no. In my view (which you are of course free to disagree with), what I would like to offer doesn't diminish Microsoft's / Dovetails intellectual and commercial interest in FSX and so it doesn't trouble my conscience. I don't really want to get into a EULA debate, I think that's been thrashed out plenty of times so I thought perhaps I might simply ask if FlightSim.Com has a policy which would prevent me uploading my improved VC to the file library here to be shared with the community? If yes, then so be it. No more questions. I really don't want to upset anyone or start a EULA debate. Frankly, those would just be a waste of your time and mine. I'll continue to privately enjoy my improved VC (even if it's not as good as PMDGs :)) but I think it would be a shame that some others may not be able to enjoy it as well. If FlightSim.com doesn't have a problem with it, then great! I'd love to share it. Thanks everyone! Trent
