  1. I did have a hectic crash a few years ago, with one of my themed FS9's. So I copied & pasted my backup into a new folder, then copied all aircraft, sound modules guages etc from the crashed sim into it, basically everything except the scenery & add-on scenery folders. Then I tested it. If it ran, I slowly started to add the scenery folders.

So, I could find out what caused the crash. I have never uninstalled the sim. I'm using an i5 laptop 8GB RAM, with no DVD drive, so I always install via my portable drive.

  2. Maybe try delete the fs9.cfg & restart?

I'm running Windows 10, with 8 separate unique versions of FS9, in C:\ (not in it's default folder), in XP compatibility mode & as Admin.

No issues, & I got a backup of a clean install on a portable drive..just in case, to save installing. I just copy & paste.

  3. I was wondering:

I downloaded Peter Walker's balloons from Simviation, parseval-sigsfield_balloon.zip & WWi French_Caquot_Balloon.zip, as they will be great for my Golden Wings.

However, they are CFS2 aircraft, so I put in panels & did the usual ui_manufacturer, ui_type & ui_variation mods to the aircraft.cfg.

It flies, but not for long, as it starts decending.

Any ideas to keep them afloat?

  4. Who is this guy? with his personal attacks?

These kind of things are normally seen an Avsim, not here.

Mark & myself agree to disagree on certain things, BUT never a trash, maybe a chirp, all for the good of FS2004.

Anyhow, play nice now, FS2004 is bigger than all of us. thanks to the support of developers, past & present, that have not been chased away by trash talk..

As a well known young lady once said.. Shame on You!!

  5. I'm perfectly fine running Fs98 and Fs2002 Standard Edition! I have two installs of Fs98 running now, C:\Fs98 and C:\Fs98GW. In the latter, I've installed Bill Lyon's Golden Wings Addon. In Fs2002 I have all Bill's addon's installed too! :pilot:

    Thanks, Guys!

If you happy, thats great, no need to change. I'm also running all of Bill's add-ons in a separate install of Golden Wings. I'm using FS2004, quite a few of Bill's add-ons are for FS2002, but work perfectly in FS2004. I also have a separate version of Golden Wings, but for Vintage aircraft only, thats all the pre GW aircraft. I kept the 2 installs separate, with different splash screens.

Bill's add-ons are great, all with a back story & a car or a boat. Good times, he is missed from our hobby.

I started in the good old days, when the sim came out on stiffy disks. Great fun when my old laptop died & I had to replace it. The new one came without a DVD drive, so I had to remove the hard drive from the old laptop, put it into a case & copy the stuff across. And everything worked! So I ended up with an additional 1TB portable drive. Joys of PC's indeed.

Oh, my laptop has 8GB RAM. Remember that the sims are all 32bit and can only address less than 4GB of ram, no matter how much RAM you have., including the RAM of the graphics card. There is a 4GB patch that will allow the sim to use all 4GB, which does help.

    Enjoy!!

  6. If you can find FS2004, it is still very well supported, it could maybe, possibly run on your tower, depending on the operating system & RAM

No need to spend a small fortune to get a new PC to run the latest simulator as this stage.

Start small, & see how you like it.

Christopher, both your tower & laptop will run FS2004, which is very much still being supported.

  7. Well said.

We have had far too many developers leave us, because of the stated reasons, including a payware developer who was actually trying to put together something quite evolutionary, for free, for FS2004.

As a well-known young lady once said.. 'Shame on you!'

  8. What exactly is this 'study level'? It's actually a fancy term for complex aircraft!

Even FS2004 has these complex aircraft.

FS 2020 is actually correctly known as MSFS.. no 2020 in the title & also not called that by MS nor Asobo. Yes, pretty scenery with flaws, & mediocre GA aircraft, more than $100, taking into account the cost of hardware to get it to run smoothly.

Also, FS2004, with freeware, shows accurate powerlines, roads, rivers & coastlines.- Not as pretty as MSFS, but runs on almost anything, far less than $100.

But thats just me. It's the immersion factor that hits the spot, more so than realism. (flying a 172 with a stick?)

  9. +10 for Mark..

Rupert, Rupert, Rupert... Why did you rush off to be amongst the first to buy the sim, without waiting for reviews & discussions? Obviously, you have 'I want to be the first' syndrome. Blame yourself for not doing a 'due diligence' as, you should know, there is not a single game that has come out that is perfect.. Maybe Tetris..?

Cobalt.. Well done for having the complete Microsoft's gaming collection. Having a complete log of all your flights, for the last 26 years, does not make you a hard core simmer. Remember, all your 'sims' came from either ACES Gaming Studio or Asobo Gaming. (no simulation in those names?) So, @6 years of flight logs? Well done, a bit OCD, but well done indeed.

So, as an avid player of flight games, do you use a yoke for Boeings & a stick for Airbus? Mmm,

Definitively, what you actually have is a game that simulates a simulator.

Just a few thoughts, now back to my outdated FS9, that works, always.

Oops, back to topic, yes, MSFS scenery is nice, but so is my regressed Golden Wings, Misty Moorings , Glacier Bay & many others.

  10. Apparently, what we have seen is a very much alpha, after only an hour or 2, so, play the waiting game, please do not pre-empt or be judgmental of just a few minutes/hours of development.
