  1. May I recommend the excellent free ReShade that can help greatly with this. It has a ton of filters to play with (each has its own slider). In your case I would play with Fake HDR, Curves & Levels. Once you get what you like save the preset. You can have any number of presets. This is the ReShade panel in-game: You can get it here: https://reshade.me
  2. Yes - but the only way to load the tweaked plan it into the game (and someone can correct me if Im wrong) is to end the flight, go back to the menu screen and load the plan again. Dont forget the save the plan after you created a new waypoint. What Im waiting for in MSFS is what X-Plane 11 has: you can change the plan in LNM, save it and then load it directly from the Garmin unit in the airplane. Im sure this will come to MSFS just have to wait. In the meantime AFAIK you have to go back to the menu screen.
  3. As other have pointed out - its your old CPU thats holding things back. I face the same issue - actually with the card you used to have. Im on an even weaker 13.7 year old system with i7 920 @ 3.8Ghz/12GB DDR2/GTX1060 6GB. Very happy with the card but the CPU is a roadblock. I'll just wait to get a new Win11 rig in about a year maybe. Its a well known card, Im considering it as well for a future rig. Easy to check with GPU-Z https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/
  4. I have read a lot about this utility and it is an amazing and effective way of managing addons. However I'm one of those gamers on the other end of the scale - I want everything loaded. All the time. I dont mind long load times. The reason is I do short flights globally. Not more than an hour, usually 30 min hops in the Caravan. But I jump from a flight in Idaho to Costa Rica to North Australia to Singapore all in the same session. I dont want to have to exit and reload the sim each time I wanna fly in an area I have addons for but I have not loaded - UNLESS....unless in the future there is a way to make the game rescan the Community folder while its running
  5. Nice plane! 3rd pic from the bottom looks real. Someone would have to look at it twice! Funny that you mentioned Mars because Australia is like a dress rehearsal for the real thing! https://mars.nasa.gov/news/8505/scientists-explore-outback-as-testbed-for-mars/
  6. Nice pics  Who makes that A330? Is it a fully realized A330 or is it just a A330 visual model overlaid on stock A320N?
  7. I have the Steam version so Im unfamiliar with the MS Store but will say that for testing purposes ensure you are running a stock game without any mods. Empty your Community folder (dump the files someplace else). Another quick way of doing this is to rename Community to something like Community.Main & then create a new empty Community folder. Run this unmodded base game and see how it goes.
  8. It was my favorite plane in FSX also. Interestingly theres a company called Soloy that made a twin engine Caravan. Two turbines driving one prop. I think you could shut down one engine when cruising. Thank you very much! ;)
  9. No problem! It was just while you wait for the VR to come back but like you said you already have switch-assignments set on all your controls! I did get to try my friends Occulus VR set and the issue for me was 2 things: I found the rez low and I found out that I got a bit sick + a headache. Guess Im in the minority for whom it doesnt work too good. I have discovered theres a nice middle ground - Track IR. Might look into that! Hope your VR set comes back soon so you can get back to flying the way you want
  10. #4, #5 you can do through the Developer Menu. You can change to any plane FSX style (without going to main menu) and can teleport to any airport or location using airport ID or lat long.
  11. Current gen VR cannot match the rez of a good monitor (even a 2K one) but I appreciate the feeling of immersion and more importantly the ease of seeing instruments :) In the meantime why not set up view hotkeys? I have tied the view hotkeys to the number pad which compliment the hat swtich well. Numpad: 7 = forward left 8 = main panel view straight ahead 9 = forward right 4 = left wing 5 = zoom into autopilot/PFD/MFD 6 = right wing 1 = look rear left 2 = look down at center console 3 = look rear right 0 = landing view over the panel
  12. Nice shots, thats a great plane and the WT mod is awesome. Im not a fan of synth viz in the game (but would love it IRL) so its nice that WT lets us disable it.
  13. Hey friends :D Heres my recent patrol in the Caravan. The paint is based on a real world Brazilian Air Force Cessna Caravan based out of Belem. Hope you all enjoy ;) http://i.imgur.com/Fp3pJvS.png The real plane: https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9118416
  14. Great pics. What is that biplane? The last pic is funny, the grass is so tall. A Bugs Life!
  15. I have a long list of excellent addons with zero issues. The sim runs just fine. As for updates - no problem because by using the excellent Addons Linker (which creates symbolic links) you can keep you addons *anywhere* without touching the Community folder. There are some truly excellent modded planes on flightsim.to and also some great utilities (like SHIFT+Z mod!). Why miss out on all these things? I do agree the stock planes are good and so is the stock scenery but modding these games is where half the fun is ;)
  16. Great pics, MSFS looks amazing on your system. Thanks for all the captions too! Im on an ancient 13yr old PC and will get nowhere close to these. Time for an upgrade but the choice of hardware is overwhelming lol. Lots of research ahead.
  17. Your ocean and land textures looks fantastic. Some of the best FSX shots I have seen well done.
  18. The answer to your question depends on 3 things: (1.) How good you have FS9 looking and running now If the sim is looking good and running good and you are happy then I would say stay with it. See point #3 below (2.)How much time & money you have invested into making FS9 look and run good It takes time to get a sim looking just right. If you spent a lot getting FS9 to run the best that it can and you are happy, do you really want to do it all again for FSX and then AGAIN for MSFS? It takes time to get FSX looking its best. The good news is that it can all be done for free. The nVidia Inspector tweaks specially make the most massive difference. (3.)How long will it be before you upgrade to a rig capable of running the new MSFS? This is the big one. Is it going to be a very long time before you get a rig to run MSFS? If so then yes it will be worth going to FSX. FS9------>FSX------>MSFS FS9------------------>MSFS It comes down to if you want to go to the "middle ground" - or eliminate that step and jump to MSFS when ready. Having said all that FSX is great, you will notice a difference, theres tons and tons of freeware of all kinds and now of course people have got down tweaks to a fine art. If you do go for FSX let me know on here and I'll show you links to the excellent nVidia Inspector tweak. A note on MSFS We could fill hundreds of pages with discussion on wether its a game or a sim. The visuals are fantastic but it does demand a powerful machine and blistering internet connection to enjoy at its best. Right now in this current moment it does feel more "gamey" but dont worry about that because they are constantly working on improving things, the modders are at work (the A320 mod specially) and complex 3rd party planes are coming. Most of the complaints will be from hardcore simmers who are coming from XP11, FSX, P3D and expect full-on systems simulation of FMC and other avionics after flying PMDGs, its still too early for complex tubeliner flying in MSFS. What it DOES excel at is awesome VFR bush/GA flying. Takes the visuals to a whole new level. No amount of addons in the other sim can come close...although dont get me wrong the addons ARE good (Orbx etc). Im an XP11 user and use that for tubeliner flying and will use MSFS for low level GA because of the visuals.
  19. If I recall correctly while they do serve a *tinyyyyy* role as speed brakes on the ground their primary function after landing is dumping lift from the wings (spoiling it) to bring the airplanes weight on the wheels ASAP so the wheel brakes can bite effectively. A more accurate term for them on the ground therefore would be Lift Dumpers :) But lets get real..."spoilers" sounds so much cooler!
  20. The easiest solution is to get a 2nd monitor and then you can use the native Windows 10 multi display function. While you can have them side by side this is not ideal for your usage so the ideal arrangement would be to have the monitor showing scenery sitting on a shelf on the table and the instrument monitor sitting below that. Once you have the 2nd monitor setting it up in Windows 10 is very easy. 1. Right click on Desktop 2. Select Display 3. Use mouse to arrange the displays like they are in real life. Use the Identify button to help. Alternatively just press Windows key + P and select extend but you will still need to dive into settings (as stated above)
  21. Steam all the way for me. All my other games are on it and I plan to get this one on Steam as well when I get a new PC. I have not noticed any issues with it and Ive been on it since 2008. Its nice to have all games in one space, easy to manage. One of its handy features is its File Verification which If im not mistaken the MS store lacks. So any issue with a game, just run the FV and Steam scans the game files. If somethings wrong it will download just the affected files and youre ready to go. There is no 11.50 version of the airplanes in XP11. The aircraft are unchanged. Its just the Vulkan API that has been added to the sim that takes it to 11.50. It is only the rendering engine that has been affected :) https://www.x-plane.com/2020/09/x-plane-11-50-now-released/
  22. I havent got the game yet and was close to ordering the DVD set too but decided against it. First as someone before me has said you need to be around to keep swapping disks during the install. Next you need to have Disc 1 in the drive at all times to play although I guess this could be fixed by making a .ISO file of it. As much as Id like to get a nice box set to put on the shelf the days of disks are over for me and the convenience of a download is unbeatable. Im gonna go with Steam, all my games are on there and it has File Verification function that the MS store doesnt.
  23. FSX will be around for a long long time and so will the faithful simmer crowd that will continue playing it. Yes the numbers will decrease in the coming years but as others have pointed out FS2004 is still cookin and so are the sims WAY before that. For me X-Plane 11 is my primary sim but FSX sits alongside it and I will use it regularly too! The reasons are simple: 1. I have invested a lot of time and money into FSX 2. Because of #1 I have it looking great (Global Orbx etc) 3. I do not like photo scenery and so the new sim does not appeal to me 4. I dont have to stay hooked up to the internet for the best experience 5. I dont have a PC that can even run the new sim (12yr old i7 920) Thats not to say the new sim does not look great - it does. But I just dont feel any desire to switch yet. And when I do I will STILL keep FSX and XP11! This is an excellent point. I really love the old Russian and Ukranian airplanes and FSX lets me fly loads of them. Even XP11 does not have many such planes.
