Founder Nels_Anderson Posted February 1 Founder Share Posted February 1 Grand Canyon Mid-Air Collision, June 1956, Arizona, USA By Frank's MS Flight Sim At 10:31 am, on 30 June 1956, TWA and UAL airliners collided mid-air over the Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA, and crashed into the Canyon. All 128 people on the airliners perished. At the time, it was the worst aircraft accident in the USA. It shocked the nation and the world. It led to the eventual radical improvement in ATC through changed procedures, new technology and more personnel. Hope this video helps us to fly even more safely. Cheers. PhrogPhlyer
Frank, another excellent piece of aviation history. This was a seminal moment for aviation. The skies are safer today from the lessons learned. 1 Always Aviate, then Navigate, then Communicate. And never be low on Fuel, Altitude, Airspeed, or Ideas. Frankly having seen some of the tourist flights there and especially over New York City even in the 60's,, I'm surprised it took so long for that big a disaster to occur!! 1 Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
