Steam Scenery.cfg. Help please

Recommended Posts

I have been running FSX Steam edition for a number of years now. Yesterday, I started the program and was greeted with an INSTALL screen on from Steam.

Years of numerous add ons seem to have disappeared. Nice one Steam.

I had no choice but to "install" FSX again, and sure enough, it looks like I've lost everything.

When I run FSX now, I get about 80 error messages concerning my scenery not being found.

Is there any way I can get rid of these, please?

Probably should have done this first before reinstalling:

To verify your game files please do the following:

1. Load the Steam platform and log into your account
2. Click the Library tab in the menu at the top of the screen
3. Click the List View from the view options on the top right of the screen
4. Right click on Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition to bring up a popup menu
5. Click on Properties from the popup menu to bring up another popup box
6. Click on Local files from the popup box menu
7. Click on Verify integrity of game cache from the Local file options
8. Wait for the progress bar to finish verifying your files. Additional files may download
9. Restart Steam
10. Restart Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition

or

1. Log on to Steam
2. Select "View Games Library" from the "Games" menu
3. Right-click the Microsoft Flight Simulator X: Steam Edition icon and select "Properties"
4. Select the "Local Files" tab and click on "Verify Integrity of Games Cache"

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

I think both of those solutions would have caused the same problem. When you verify local files with Steam games, it will reset all files back to the what they were on a clean install, including resetting config files in the FSX directory back to their original defaults (files created after install, like the FSX.cfg in the Documents folder should be fine though). One would need to back up the config files first, and then restore them to avoid losing any changes.

Calypso, do you happen to have a backup anywhere of the FSX config files?
