The 2024 Australia Rally...

Am focussing my 'situational awareness' education for now on the 1st 4 airports/waypoints: YPJT Jandakot, YKNG Kattaning, YNSM Norseman, YCAG Caiguna. OurAirports, plus Google Maps etc. are very helpful. Plus now, I have homework re my new toy the Cessna 182RG. (Thankfully it's still raining intermittently, so am prevented from doing more mowing, so am forced against my better judgement to go mess with FS!)

high rpm is also the highest blade pitch

lower rpm/lower blade pitch

To achieve a higher RPM one must "decrease" the blade pitch (less pitch, less drag, faster prop), and reverse for lower RPM. "Increase blade pith (more pitch, more drag, slower prop).

On takeoff and landing you want the highest RPM for most thrust/least drag. Cruise you decrease RPM to most "efficient" lift/drag configuration on the prop.

I purposely left out the MP for this response to keep it simpler.

Tnx PhrogPhlyer, yep, am understanding, still a bit confusing, but I get the physics. Will investigate further. On takeoff/landing, do I then push the throttle lever all the way in, full throttle but leave the Prop lever all the way out, min pitch? (Thanks for leaving out MP for now, that'd be too much for my brain to handle just now!)

Yes.

T/O Prop-all the way forward, and Throttle-Max.

LND Prop-all the way forward, and Throttle-as needed.

FYI. Not all variable speed props are constant speed (governor equipped).

Now add prop sync and MP... Easy Peasy!

Tnx taoftedal for the vid, just starting watching the beginning. Very informative. So guys, that's enough for this newbie, me, to take in for today, head is starting to hurt (mowing is now looking more attractive, and the rain has stopped). Am really enjoying the learning, a steep learning curve for me. Can see it'll be a long road from here to the Concorde!!!!

PS. Yep, the FS2002 info says 'constant speed' prop, and I have FS2000 and the hardcopy book that came with that, think is the same aircraft, says 'McCauley 2-bladed constant speed'.

MAD1 Glad to see you're flying Eight (FS2002); that's the Sim I started with in '10. Flew many Hours in that Sim... forgot to tell you that!

Lets make the Red/Blue/Black thingies easy for you here. On Takeoff, all Three full forward. Once you start Climbing, decrease Prop Pitch (blue) just below the Red Line on the RPM meter (Tachometer) and use Elevator Trim (the vertical wheel) to set the Airplane at an 750 rpm Climb.

When you get to your desired Cruise Altitude, decrease the Prop Pitch slightly to 2300 RPM. Watch the nose drop and once Level, Elevator Trim for Level Flight. Once you're there, FLY! Enjoy the Scenery!

Oh, whenever you're over 3,000 feet AGL, pull out the Mixture (Red knob) a fair bit. You'll know if you've pulled too much because the Engine will quit. About 1/2 way will do. Shoot for about 130-135 knots Indicated.

If I can raise the cash, I'll put in my entry. We'll see how I go.

Once question....where are the 9'ers getting their YCAG from? There's no default in mine. And an old WA airport file looks like this which is better than nothing.

defaid did one; the Airstrip is on Pg. 7, the Scenery Objects on Pg. 8. Choice of either Dirt or Grass Strip.

Sure hope you can join us; it's looking like it's gonna be lit!

Thanks mate. I’ll check it out.

Trying! Super busy couple weeks to come. I’ll see if I can prepare something and enter at least. Then see what I can do.

So i just added some FSET to Caiguna... and then added Defaids Scenery...

I then detected that he actually set the wrong direction of the Strip. Also the Buildings now sit on the Strip itself.
Question to @defaid: would that eventually be correctable? and would it be possible to add some smoke effects to the Buildings just to give it some more Life?
Also, you eventually can extend the Runway as the strip is actually just a tad longer in reality.

Btw. if needed, you can get the Caiguna FSET Scenery here: DOWNLOAD (only untill January 13th).

For the correction, i added another image how it actually should be...

Red: The acutal runway with its full length
Blue: movement of the buildings where they actually need to be

If you like, I can adjust it for you but I'd need the photoscenery and the terrain elevation in order to be sure I make the correct adjustment.
