The "Your favorite FS9 aircraft" thread

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Let's share our favorite aircraft files for FS9 from the flightsim.com library, shall we?

If you're on, post any number of choices but keep one aircraft per post - to keep it organized!

List the aircraft file, fixes, updates, repaints, etc. Imagine that we (reading the thread) would like to follow your lead and install those aircraft - so guide us with your lead.

I'll start :)

+ + + + + + + + + +

Robin DR400 Regent

+ + + + + + + + + +

This started as a FS2002 file, already a great pack, by Yannick Lavigne, Fred Banting and Rob Young.

Then Lavigne gracefully handed his master files to Eric Dantes who upgraded it to FS2004 standards.

Many repaints, updates and fixes followed but, in the end, there's one file that I believe sums it all, capturing the best of the various releases:

FS2002 Model Yannick Lavigne-Fred Banting-Rob Young

FS2004 Update by Eric Dantes

FS2004 flight dynamics update Jean-Pierre Bourgeois

OE-DFS repaint by Christian Daboudet (I'm not completely sure here)

Here's the link to the file : https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=copyright&fid=127569

Here's a photo of the real aircraft depicted on this file : https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fsview.php?do=image&fid=127569&idx=73&fname=P7191130.JPG

This is a super fun plane to fly! Great VC, wonderful for sight-seeing due to its canopy - and with a little artistry you may easilly add your own mug-shot to it and look convincing! :)

Add some ActiveCamera views (I'm working on it) or even the freeware F1Vew module for "head latency effects" and I'm sure you'll be returning to the little Robin DR400 Regent many times!

Bill Lyons Custom Classics G21a Grumman Goose (once payware, re-released as freeware).

FDE by FSAviator (available from CalClassic).

This a/c is a joy to fly (by the numbers) from the VC.

My personal preference (whilst in VC) is not to load Jack, Corky or Sarah as co-pilot(s) (they're just a tad too creepy for my liking). YMMV of course.

Way too many repaints of extremely high caliber to list.

I use Aaron R. Swindle/Skysong Soundworks payware sound package "Grumman Goose/Pratt & Whitney R-985 Wasp Junior HD-Audio FSX STEAM FS9".

FS2004 Maule M-7-260

One of my favourite models was the Maule M-7-260:

I really enjoy flying around remote areas such as Alaska and BC and so this model enabled me to do just that.

Great visibility, reasonable performance, coupled with a go "almost" anywhere ability.

If you like the look of Crawford Bay, check out Frank Betts version for FS2004 in the file library:

This one is a true Ode to Freeware brought to us during the FS9 days!

But the team later released a version for FS2002 and, of course, to FSX

This is aircraft is a joy in all senses; wonderful to fly and to look at, in a variety of configurations and operations.

Milton Shupe is one the FS developer Gods! He always managed to assemble great teams and lead them with the utmost respect and professionalism…

… ) can tell, as I was a member of Dash7 and Howard 500 original releases.

Still, I think this aircraft is the one I ended flying the most and will keep flying without end in sight!

Enjoy!

Hey, Dominic

That Maule is an old favorite, of course - glad you added it here!

If I'm not mistaken Mikko released a paint kit a couple of days before the base pack, so that was the first time I repainted an aircraft that was not yet on my sim :D

Logged many hours on that one, namely one year when I followed the whole Yukon Quest race on the Maule.

A couple of (boring) videos I recorded ... in 2008(!)

These are mine :

FS2004 Blue Crown Airways Fairchild SA227-DC - metro23.zip

FS2004 Fairchild SA227-AT Merlin III - smerlin3.zip (update FDE somewhere. Taxiing not good but fun)

FS2004 Fairchild F-27 And FH-227 Panel - fairf276.zip *** Fraser McKay masterpiece

Actually any Fraser McKay panel package is sensational.

Just a few of my favourites.

FS2004 Ultimate PA34 Seneca. This aircraft is not mine. Nor the gauges. I have combined from different paths on flightsim to make this the Ultimate PA-34 Seneca. It has a fully functioning glass cockpit. GNS430 and GNS530. FMC and WAAS. You cannot get lost in this aircraft. All buttons work and I have modified the aircraft.cfg for performance, fuel flow and handling. I do not take credit for this aircraft or the gauges. I simply combined them into a panel and made it as I wanted it to be. I used to fly the PA-34 and it was not like this one. If you want to know how to work the glass cockpit then go onto the Garmin site. By Glenn Taylor.

This was always one of my favorite aircraft to fly in FS9.

It happens to me a lot to fall in love with a few aircraft which are not necessarily the most advanced creations - but fun is all that matters!

Still this is a wonderful and very beautiful aircraft that inspired me to many repaints!

fbq1.giffcq1.gif FS2004 DeHavilland DHC3-TTC Super Otter; final version for FS2004. Three versions included in this package: two amphibious versions and a wheeled version. Features dynamic virtual cockpit, six liveries, reflective textures, opening door, full moving parts, panel with custom gauges. By Eugene Heyart.

This is a definite version for FS2004 released by Eugene Heyart in 2006 so none of the previous files are required.

To complement this - and if you pardon me for pushing forward some of my works, I love the textures I created for the Super Otter! I also created a couple of bitmaps for both panels 2D and VC as the original were really too flat.

Some of these files were released to the FS community but most of them I just rediscovered on my harddrive and spent the day assembling.

If someone is interested I'll may upload them to flightsim.com :)

Gi'day João,

Gotta love that N251AW livery.

Regards,

Dorian

Thank you, Dorian!! Yes, that's my favorite, too ;)! You can see 2 versions of it above: with mostly black or yellow noses; I'm still searching my hard drives for that black one... Shouldn't be hard to recreate in any case

The default Cessna Caravan Amphibian. I'd island hop all the time in that thing around Hawaii. I also upgraded its avionics with RealityXP gauges.

Landing on water was a real blast.
