miatamariner
I found this pic on an automobile auction site. Most notable for the car involved as it is a 1930 Mercedes-Benz 770K. The pic shows it being off loaded in Irag in 1958 to be delivered to King Faisal II. At first glance, I thought the aircraft was a modified DC-3 but I'm not so sure as the props are four bladed and the landing gear appears to be fuselage supported. Anybody wish to venture a guess? kjhkjh
Bristol Freighter.... http://i211.photobucket.com/albums/bb20/N3688G/VP-sig_zpschamxyx6.jpg
mallcott
Bristol Freighter.... Yep. Can't be a DC-3 as that, of course has a low wing, this has a shoulder wing! Also, no DC-3/C-47 had the pilots positioned above the cabin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol_Freighter Good spot for the four-bladed prop! lnuss
It is, as said above, a Bristol Freighter. Check out this 39 sec video. And note that those clamshell doors in the nose are rare devices indeed, and alone would preclude it being a DC-3, but the shape of the nose, the odd-looking landing gear, the low stance, etc. are other clues that it's nothing like a Gooney. jorgen.s.andersen
Plus the landing gear is fixed, 4-bladed props, cooling air intakes in the engine nacelles much too narrow... Jorgen PS: Aviation may not be an exact science, but aircraft recognition is...
