il88pp
allen, did you use the woai installer to install the woai packages into this fsx install? ( doing that will install the woai .bgl files AND the planes needed). You can get the installer at the woai site. Or did you salvage your old. bgl files from a previous install-backup? ( in that case you simply don't have the aircraft installed.) A .bgl file is just the trafficplan and contains no aircraft. Also, after loading a flight it takes some time for all the the AI to load and appear. 10-20 minutes or so. Besides, the airports you mentioned are not exactly very large. Check some large airports to see the amount of traffic there. Dont expect every airline to visit every airport. Lufthansa for example might visit london occasionally (not every day), but you most likely will not see Lufthansa visiting Manchester or Bristol. jorgen.s.andersen
Allan, Il88pp wrote some good things to consider here (yes there are a LOT of things to consider!). And yep I do have the patience - back when I was young and foolish I was a Danish Army sniper and used to jump out of perfectly functioning airplanes, then I got out and spent my career in tech support... still foolish! :D Jorgen
ac103010
1. Where is FSX installed? C:\ 2. Your flight plan .bgl files should be under FSX, in Scenery\World\Scenery - are they there? Yes 3. Where are your AI aircraft installed? In the WoA installed bgl files 4. What Windows version do you have, and is it fully updated, with the C++ and .NET updates that Brian and I mentioned earlier? Win10 64 bit, and yes, all updated 5. Where did you install AIFP? C:\ Not to worry, if you have the patience we will get it running. Jorgen Edit: Maybe you could also post your FSX.CFG file here. FSX.CFG. ac103010
Hi il88pp. allen, did you use the woai installer to install the woai packages into this fsx install? ( doing that will install the woai .bgl files AND the planes needed). You can get the installer at the woai site. Yes, every flightplan instaled using WoAI Or did you salvage your old. bgl files from a previous install-backup? ( in that case you simply don't have the aircraft installed.) A .bgl file is just the trafficplan and contains no aircraft. No, all freshly downloaded and installed via the installer Also, after loading a flight it takes some time for all the the AI to load and appear. 10-20 minutes or so. Besides, the airports you mentioned are not exactly very large. Check some large airports to see the amount of traffic there. Yes, I know they're not large but previously they've had a selection of aircraft from airlines known to have used them, They're both tourist destination and so they should have a large number of charter. Plus, they're both Iberia bases and so should have a number of Iberia planes there. When I look at London Heathrow and Singapore, for example, LHR should be bristling with BA aircraft. Although there are a number, nowehere near what I would expect. Same with Singapore. Has a large number of Singapore Airlines aircraft but very few of anything else. And NO BA planes. Also, since deleting and reinstalling AIFP3 I now have only ONE aircraft at Malaga and NONE at Alicante Dont expect every airline to visit every airport. Lufthansa for example might visit london occasionally (not every day), but you most likely will not see Lufthansa visiting Manchester or Bristol. But I WOULD expect Iberia to visit Madrid - it's hub, and, as I said, BA at Heathrow. But I only had 4 Iberia at Madrid. I hope that what I've said makes sense. ac103010
Just checked Gatwick - 2nd largest UK airport. I have ONE solitary aircraft - a Virgin 747. Gatwick is Virgin's base and Ryanair, Easyjet and other budget airlines have bases there, too.
mrzippy
What time of day? Sometimes the season will also affect the number of AI aircraft at an airport. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!
ac103010
Mr Zippy, tried it at various times. But we're talking about major hubs. It would be like having no AAA or United at JFK.
ac103010
Looked at Dubai. Not an aircraft in sight. So I re-installed WOA Emerites and now Dubai is bristling with Emerites aircraft. Looks like I might have to re-install all 200 packages  But that's for tomorrow. Need to sleep now.
jorgen.s.andersen
Allan, I will quote one of your answers to me: "3. Where are your AI aircraft installed? In the WoA installed bgl files" To repeat: the bgl files are pure traffic files, they do not contain any aircraft. If the AI aircraft are also installed in \Scenery\World\Scenery, where the traffic bgl files go, then the sim cannot see them. With your present FSX.CFG, the AI aircraft will need to be in \SimObjects\Airplanes to be seen. When you reinstalled Emirates, the AI aircraft from that package most likely went there, and now they can be seen. But I also have a couple of questions prompted by your FSX.CFG file. First of all, are you running this on a laptop? The Intel Graphics point to that. What CPU do you have, and do you know if Hyperthreading is on or off in your system's BIOS? Second, where do the [MAPVIEW.MAP], [WeatherMap] and [FlightPlanMap] in the FSX.CFG come from? Also, your [TRUSTED] section seems to indicate that you have a lot of add-ons - which add-ons do you have? Jorgen
ac103010
Oh, silly me. Yes, Jorgen, my WOA AI aircraft are all in the simobjects folder so when I reinstalled the Emirates package it went in the same place. I'm not running this on a laptop, but on a PC. As for your other questions I'll have to go back into the cfg file and answer them later. Allan
jorgen.s.andersen
Good to hear you are on a PC - can you please post its specifications? There is one thing you should do when you look at the FSX.CFG right away: In the [GRAPHICS] section, add this line: HIGHMEMFIX=1 Jorgen
ac103010
OK. Will do. I've re-installed almost 30 packages from WOA and now I'm getting a large number of aircraft at all the airports I've previously mentioned. There are still many anomolies but I'm putting this down to WOA. For instance, Gatwick is Virgin's hub (Heathrow has a lot of Virgin slots, too) but I'm getting quite a nnumber of aircraft at Heathrow and NONE at Gatwick. I'll answer all your question, Jorgen, when I get back later. In the meantime, AIFP3 still doesn't function. Allan
jorgen.s.andersen
There are several things that could explain this odd behavior with the Virgin aircraft. First of all, the WoAI flight plans are old - ancient, in fact. Second, the parking codes in the airports determine where the AI aircraft park, and if they don't match up with the codes in the individual Virgin aircraft there will be issues. And then there are the flight plans themselves - the plans need to tell the plane to go to Gatwick... When you launch AIFP, then first of all, what version does it say in the very top of the AIFP screen, and second, what simulator does it show as the target version? Jorgen
longbreak754
@ Allan... WRT to AIFP... Are you sure that you have installed it correctly and not attempting to run it directly from the .zip file? If you are attempting to run it it directly from the .zip file it will cause issues.. Just for clarification AIFP should be installed as follows: 1. Unzip the contents of the .zip file to a temp location. If should create a folder called AIFP**** (whereby *** denotes the version number i.e the latest version will be AIFP3416). This folder will contain a number of files (31 in total) plus a subfolder titled Base Data - this folder will contain 13 files plus another subfolder with 2 files). 2. Copy the complete folder 'as is' to a location of your choosing. 3. Open the folder and run the program by clicking on the AIFP3.exe. This should run the program and it should create a number of new files (qty 3) and new subfolders (qty 5) in the background and the program display the initial screen. ac103010
Right, going to catch up with the uanswered questions. Will probably need a couple of posts. First of all, are you running this on a laptop? The Intel Graphics point to that. What CPU do you have, and do you know if Hyperthreading is on or off in your system's BIOS? - In spec later Second, where do the [MAPVIEW.MAP], [WeatherMap] and [FlightPlanMap] in the FSX.CFG come from? - I have absolutely no idea. I didnt deliberately put them in there. I assumed they were part of the initial cfg file Also, your [TRUSTED] section seems to indicate that you have a lot of add-ons - which add-ons do you have? - Yes, I was surprised at the list. Have to check this out and get back to you. Good to hear you are on a PC - can you please post its specifications? - I'll send in in a later post There are several things that could explain this odd behavior with the Virgin aircraft. From around 2002 I started creating my own flight plans. I also modified airports to increase the amount of parking and, in many cases, to make them correct, which, of course, they aren't in FSX. I used Aerad Airport charts as templates, as closely as possible. Here's one I created: airwales.zip in flightsim.com. Please read the readme file, which will show you the level of my knowledge. It's frustrating, therefore, for me to be having these issues right now. When you launch AIFP, then first of all, what version does it say in the very top of the AIFP screen, and second, what simulator does it show as the target version? - No version shown and Target Version is blank Answers continuing in next post. ac103010
And back to Brian. I followed your instructions to the letter but when I tried to run it, it doesn't work. Still get the original error messages: Invalid Control, etc Unhandled Exception..... The latter comes up every time I try to do some bulk checking. It also asks, at some point, which sim it is, but has no place to tell it. Whenever I try to carry out a bulk operation I get "no traffic files found/selected" Allan
jorgen.s.andersen
There is something totally wrong somewhere here, because at the top of the AIFP screen there should definitely be version information, and the target version should be there. I need to think a bit about this. Jorgen Edit: did you BTW delete the old AIFP before you installed the new one? ac103010
Jorgen, in that article something was said that struck a chord. A question was asked if FSX was installed in one folder and later moved. This is what I did. I origibnally installed it in the default installation folder, in Program Files, etc. And then, because I was told that it will be better in C:\ I moved it. Again, I was told that it was fine just to copy it across. Which I did. Could this have any relevance? Allan
