doering1
Just purchased the Hughes racer. No matter what throttle, mixture, prop settings I use the engine quits and blows black smoke after about 1-2 minutes of flight. Airspeed is only around 150 mph and not pushing the aircraft. Some engine setting is not right. Help appreciated to get this plane flying at high speeds. mrzippy
Are you keeping an eye on engine RPM? If it stays too high for several minutes it may be causing the engine to blow. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!

Okay, I'll watch the RPM gauge for starters! ScatterbrainKid
The stock FSX Mustang racers engine actually catches fire if you push it too hard, but instead of trying to fix it by juggling mixture controls etc, I took the easy way out and unticked the 'engine damage' option to cure it. PhantomTweak
Not just RPM, for that is normally PROP RPM, not ENGINE RPM. Usually Manifold Pressure is a better indicator to watch. The higher you have it, the harder the engine works. Watch your Cylinder Head Temperature, as it indicates the heat the engine is generating internally. If it's too high, either your mixture is too lean, speed to slow, cowling flaps closed, or any combination of the above. Just a couple thoughts... Pat☺ [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again! Pat☺ Okay thanks, I'll pay attention to the other parameters also. Just want to get some flight time in for now. Can't seem to find the spot to untick "engine damage" My latest video at The Flight Level - TOP GUN | MSFS | F-14 Tomcat (Heatblur & IndiaFoxtEcho) + NAS Miramar 1986 (Sundownersim)
