FSX Acceleration

Recommended Posts

I should be able to use it. I have an i5 6600k. You should be able too, but I'm not sure what type of Proc you have. I may upgrade to an i7 6700k latter on.

Aaron - My computer is an i5 - 4460, which is substantially less speed than yours. You should be good on your system and yes, the i7 like dogdish has, is the way to go for all around performance.

My old computer's hard drive failed and I had to buy something quick. i don't know what I was running for a system on that computer, but I know it wouldn't have been enough to handle FSX. After I purchased this computer, i felt the need to get back into flight simming but wanted something more than FS9 offered (that was on the old computer). I bought the FSX Gold on Ebay and hoped that this computer would handle it and it did. I was very pleased with the way FSX performed, but, did not want to chance installing the acceleration disk and have that push the computer "over the edge!" I have only had a few freeware downloads that were very CPU intensive, and they just wouldn't work on this computer. So, my system definitely has it's limitations! If I had the room, I would try to get an i7 system just for flight simming and let this computer go to my wife for all her computer needs! But, that won't work, so I'll just be patient and when it comes time for replacing, I'll get something with a little more horsepower! Speaking of which, my wife and I just replaced 2 older Buicks with a newer preowned Honda Accord V6. This car has 278hp, and what a blast to drive! It runs like a "scalded dog!" That's what I want to feel in my next computer! More horsepower, when I need it. Not to be limited on what I can or can't do! I should have looked more than I did, but I didn't have the flight sim in mind when I purchased this system! Oh well, I am content with what I have and what I able to do with the flight simming!

Good luck, Aaron, on your wanting to move up with the Acceleration disk. You fly those Hot Rod jets around so you will probably be glad you made the move!

I'd look at getting an i7 4790 as an upgrade. It's the same socket as what you have now, 1150. Here's the Passmark score: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-4790+%40+3.60GHz&id=2226

I bought my Proc. on eBay for about 200 or around there. Can't remember now. Typically, CPUs don't fail so you don't have to worry all that much on a CPU purchase on eBay. If it's been overclocked that may be of some concern. Especially if its been clocked to the max.

Looking at the PCmark score for the i7 6700k, I really should buy it. https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-6700K+%40+4.00GHz&id=2565

Aaron - Somehow your thread of wanting to purchase a Microsoft FSX Gold to get the acceleration disk for download has redirected itself to my needing a new CPU or computer. I have the FSX Gold and I currently have a computer that meets my needs! If YOU are still serious about the MS FSX Gold and NOW a new i7 CPU, by all means, do it.

Please keep us posted as to how these items have improved your flight simming experience! I will keep enjoying my "low end" performer until the need to "step up" presents itself!

Have a nice day! Rick
