new vid card

My system is rather old (emergency surgery with no insurance means I cannot now justify the luxury of a new one) and its vid card recently died. That old HD5670 did an admirable job, and I am surprised they are still available new ...but it is also seven year old technology, so I've been shopping around. A 750Ti was recommended, as was a GTX 950.

At current prices I have this choice:

5670 1gig - $115, including shipping

750Ti 2gig - $125, free shipping

GTX 950 2gig - $135, $20 rebate, free shipping

Performance is what you would expect, the 950 is about 30% better than the 750 and about 50% better than the 5670.

The 750 is tempting for its low power consumption (60W); an article comparing the 5670 with the 950 is contradictory, the charts show the former at 72W and the latter at 90W yet the text says the 950 uses less power (they also recommend a 350W PS for the 950 and a 400W for the 5670). This is a concern; with the old 5670 this system ate two 450W supplies in three years, it has been quite happy with a 550W unit. Will this be adequate for a GTX950? Would one of the other cards be a better match for this system (Vista 32, 2gig, 64X2 3.0gig ...stop laughing)?

Unless you are looking for a straight drop in replacement, I would at least get the 750Ti. The 550W PSU should be enough, as long as it is from a reputable company.

I had a HD 5770 whose fan became sluggish (turns real slow). So I had to get a new one. I went with XFX Radeon R7 360, 2 Gb DDR5, dual DVI and display port, 2 fans. It is now $110 at Amazon. I found the R7 360 at Best Buy for $135 and mentioned it was $117 at Amazon so he 'price matched' it and I got it for $117 (so DO ask if they 'price match' - I am sure they do - and save on shipping and waiting). You can have the HD 5770 for just shipping cost if you want to try to fix it. PM me.
