aerosim31
Hi, On approach descending to the runway, the AP cuts off at a certain height. Is this the same at all airports? This morning I was at 3800 AGL descending to ILS 25R @ McCarran and about 3/4 of the way down the AP disconnects. I looked up the airport and that runway is a CAT 1? I saw a YouTube clip of someone doing a CAT 3 ILS approach in Amsterdam? What's the difference? Thanks
rishabk97
Autoland and ILS are two different things. You can read more about ILS categories here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrument_landing_system#ILS_categories http://www.crossed-flag-pins.com/animated-flag-gif/gifs/India_120-animated-flag-gifs.gifhttp://status.ivao.aero/414320.png

PhantomTweak
A CAT1 landing is essentially a VFR landing. Clear air all the way down, with light winds. CAT3 is total IFR down to the runway's minimums. And generally, medium to high winds, often with gusts, and rain. aerosim31
Thanks PhantomTweak. CAT 3 is used in low to impossible visibility scenarios?
Rupert
Thanks PhantomTweak. CAT 3 is used in low to impossible visibility scenarios? I suggest you go to the link Rishbak 97 kindly offered. IMHO that link covers this better than a lot of questions and answers probably ever could. Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
