LTCSZ
I noticed that there are now HDD that run at 10,000 rpm vs mine that is a 7,500 rpm HDD...Would I notice any significant difference using the 10,000 drive on P3d? Thanks...

longbreak754
+1 Vic's reply. A faster rpm will only result in slightly neglectable faster initial loading times of the OS and applications BUT not on other aspects such as FPS etc. So, for example, in the case of P3D that would mean a slightly quicker load time from clicking on the icon to getting to the flight screen but after that you will notice no improvements. DominicS
Going from a standard HD to an external SSD greatly improved load times in my case. Cheers Dom
lnuss
SSD? Yes, HD? No. The SSD is several orders of magnitude faster than a hard drive, so lots of small speed-ups add up to a very noticeable change, even during small fetches from "disk". The difference between even a 5400 RPM drive and a 10,000 RPM drive is small enough that although under certain conditions (such as a long loading time) you'll definitely notice the difference, the brief accesses during fetches while running the sim will be hard to spot. fsimmer98
10,000 rpm drives have been around for a while, however they are enterprise drives, and very expensive. If you want a faster HD, a SSD is the way to go. They are much faster than any 10,000 rpm drives.
