Woai question

Recommended Posts

Hello yet again!

Does installing woai packages disable the default AI in FSX.

It appeared to do that when tried the other day.

Cheers Andy

If you are installing FS9 WOAI packages with FS9 flight plans then yes, your default FSX aircraft will be "Mostly" disabled as AI. One FS9 flight plan is all that's needed to do that. There is a program out there that will covert the plans to FSX so you can retain the default aircraft AI.

I think the program is AIFP version 3.

Apologies

Iam trying to run before I can walk as usual.

I notice that woai do packages for fs9 and FSX and there are some that seem to be for both.

As an example I wanted to make British airways my first choice ,the only package available seems to work for both 9 and X is that package OK for me?

Should I only use packages labelled FSX or do fs9 packages work in X as well?

I have had a quick look at your links, but first glance all info looks complicated .

I will try to read through in morning iam usually more patient first thing.

Cheers Andy

All WOAI packages work in FSX. It's all a matter of wanting default World Travel, Orbit Airlines, etc. mixed in with the real world airlines packages. I much prefer it without the Default.

The default traffic files are fsx type.

Woia traffic .bgl files are fs9 type.

You can't see a difference from the files. They are both .bgl files.

All default traffic is in one file.

TrafficAircraft.bgl

4 options really:

option1-

Use only the default traffic.

option2-

Install Woia and leave it as FS2004 files.

The default traffic file you leave installed.

The default traffic will not be displayed. With FS9 and FSX traffic installed, only the fs9 .bgl files are loaded.

option3-

Install the Woai fs9 files.

Convert them to FSX files using AIFP.

Leave the default traffic file in place.

You will see the default traffic and the WOAI, as they ar e both fsx type now.

option4-

Same.

but now delete file TrafficAircraft.bgl (keep a backup!!!!)

Or better yet, rename TrafficAircraft.bgl to "TrafficAircraft.bgl.bak"

The .bak extension disables the file.

Now you will only see the WOAI.

-----------

Best? Options 3 and 4.

Why?

Because the woai files are FS9, they go to aitports that don;t exist in FSX.

Converting them to FSX type fixes this, and deletes those dead-end flights.

So converting is best.

Then remove the default traffic, or not, as you whish.

I use option4. I enable the default traffic at night (not uch woai at night), and disable it by day.

---------------------

.bgl files.

.bgl files are the trafficplans. Where the aircraft takes off from, and whereto it flies.

The aircraft themselves are also required.

The default traffic uses the same traffic that you as user do.

When you install a WOAI package, a .bgl file gets installed, but also one (or several) complete aircraft.

Those do not have panels, so they don't show up in the aircraft selection menu.

And don't go trying to change that. Don't use them as user aircraft. It leads nowhere.

When you install a new package more aircraft get installed. If one of those is already there it doesn't get installed again, but Woai adds a few new textures to the one that is already there.

-------------------------

To disable a trafficplan, all you need to do is remove the .bg file (or rename it to .bak). Leave the aircraft that it uses in place. That way you can re-enable it simply by placing the .bgl back.

Don't remove the aircraft, as other traffic plans will also use that aircraft.

Removing the aircraft would mean keeping track of a very complex system. Let the WOAI-installer handle it.

----------------------------

That's the basics.

Read those threads I linked. It's all in there. Plus a lot more.

+1.

One additional reason may be that FS9 traffic files will also disable boat traffic, including aircraft carriers.

It has been a long time since I initially installed WOAI and I keep a copy of what I did for reinstall times; but is not there a 'fix' to keep all AI but aircraft after WOAI install?

I have boats, cars, etc with WOAI.

I have recently thought of WOAI. I have been flight siming since 1986 and always used addon traffic packages. It takes such a big hit on FPS and I hate it. I run the airtrafficmanager posted on Avsim and it helps a lot, but, I am wondering if WOAI would have less of an impact on FPS? Also can it be used in P3DV3?

Hello:

Sorry about interrupting thread.

Converting them to FSX type fixes this, and deletes those dead-end flights.

Is there a EZ way to find out what airports will be deleted.

Then use ADE165 to create them.

Thanks
