simicoms default airbus/boeing

Recommended Posts

Hello All

Very new and still experimenting with X,so bare with me please.

Decided to take a look at the jets .

Airbus/Boeing.

In 2d panel there are no simicons to select things like GPS,Throttle quadrant ,radio stack etc .(as in fs9)

Unless iam missing something the only way to access these items is to select them from menu at the top of the screen.

Please don't say this is the only mode of panel operation.

Are we looking at the default Boeing/Airbus jets for FSX? Time for new spectacles?? This is the default 2D cockpit panel for the 737-800. Give me 5 minuets for an airbus panel shot! When using the VC, you can always bring those things up by using the Shift+XX for panel popups.

Hello Zip

I am talking about the default Airbus/Boeing.

For some reason the Simicons visible in your screenshots are missing in my default AB and B737.

Any ideas ?

This installation of X is only 4days old so can't understand why Simicons would be missing.

Have found keyboard commands to bring GPS ,radios etc etc up ,but not satisfactory for me.

Cheers Andy

In FSX (I use accel)

..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Gauges

should contain:

SimIcons1024.cab

for 737_800, Airbus_321, (and probably others as well.)

and

SimIcons.cab

for b747_400 (and some others probably.)

(Notice in your panel.cfg for the b737, in [Window00] -section, is lines such as:

gauge26=SimIcons1024!ECU Icon, 433, 448

gauge27=SimIcons1024!Overhead Icon, 455, 448

gauge28=SimIcons1024!Kneeboard Icon, 477, 448

etc.

referring to the gauges ( 'ECU Icon.xml' & 'Overhead Icon.xml' & 'Kneeboard Icon.xml' ) that are inside SimIcons1024.cab

)

Hello

Before I saw your reply I had started the repair option for FSX.

Not sure what repair will do.

But iam sure after its done more problems will ensue, such is simming.

I noticed one of the first files repaired was the big gyp (ATC voices etc) file.

So that probably means edit voicepak wil need running again for fast ATC speak .

Repair has just finished .Will !et you know what occurs.

FSX really isn't that bad.

I think you should just take it all a bit more slowly. Not repairing 5 minutes after noticing a problem.

And indeed, playing fsx for a bit before starting to fiddle about with all the files.

You don't know fsx as well as you knew fs9.

Baby steps.

Install one thing. Test for a few days/weeks.

Then start thinking about the next thing.

If you install to much at once you have no idea where the error came from.

(btw, there are several warnings against the repair function in the forum, it's a very very last resort, to be avoided at all cost. It replaces all default fsx files with their original versions!)

(including GVP.big or whatever it was)

Much better to repair something manually. That way you learn from it, and will get better and better at installing things and at locating where the fault is if something isn't running as expected.

Editvpak accelerated ATC speak.

Ready to try again.

Whole rein simple as orig was a vigin install ,no addons.

Cheers Andy

Glad to hear you're back up and running. If you have any doubts about installing something to your Sim, don't hesitate to ask here! I'm usually dumb enough to try anything! ;)

As a side note, if you have plenty of extra room on your HDD or somewhere else, make a complete backup of your FSX folder just in case you delete something you shouldn't.

+1

Also, make a backup of the full

..\Microsoft Flight Simulator X

folder.

(Yes, all 17 or so Gb)

If you ever lose a file you will be able to restore the original file from the backup.

Much better then having to reinstall.

With FSX you can NOT just lift the file from the disk. (like you could in FS9)

Save the folder somewhere safe

I have it on an internal drive somewhere,

In full form, and also as a .zip file.

And I have the same on an external harddisk.

------------------

Keep that folder and guard it with your life.

Editing or delete files in there is a NoNo, only copy files from it.

To not confuse windows, rename the backup,

don't leave the name as "Microsoft Flight Simulator X"

I had a look, my backup is called:

140109 fs orig -0-

(made on jan 01 2014, the day I installed FSX on this pc, and unchanged since that day.)

Il88p and Zippy

Thanks I will do just that.

I have had Fs9 backed up for years (and do it regularly)

Its probably one of the most (and easily put off) important things to do for a simmer.

Because my install for X is so new I'd forgotten to do it.

PS Zip

haven't checked my default 737/Airbus yet.

I hope the simicons that were missing are now restored.

Thanks again.

Andy
