About This File

FSX/P3D Generic GCA Gauge. This package contains two Ground Controlled Approach gauges: Pattern Control and Precision Approach Radar (PAR). The Approach Controller will set you up for a downwind, dogleg, or straight-in approach leading to a point eight miles from the runway at the proper altitude for a 3-degree glideslope. At the intercept point, the PAR Controller will take over and talk you down to the runway threshold. The project is hugely indebted to Karol Chlebowski's powerful AILA (Airborne Instrument Landing Approach) gauge, adapted by permission of the author, and Doug Dawson's equally powerful sound DLL gauge. GCA gauges and manual by Manfred Jahn, historical research by Tom Harnish and compatibility testing by Ralf Scholten. By Manfred Jahn.

To be clear, the images FlightSim chose are in no way representive of the GCA add-on. While it's true that GCA was used (mostly by the Navy) with jets up until a few years ago, and while it's true you can still get a Carrier Controlled Approach (CCA) on an aircraft carrier, the 'talk-down' system was mainly used during the 40s and 50s, most famousy during the Berlin Airlift when over 10,000 aircraft landed using the system. If you fly Connies or two- or four-engine Douglas prop-liners, or Boeings this add-on will act like a time machine and take you back to the era Ernie Gann wrote about.

Tom Gibson of California Classic has made emendations which mean that it works in FS9 and a lot of the people simming the 1940s and 1950s in Connies are using FS9. May we have this version uploaded please?

NATOMAN: re-check your install, we have it working fine here in P3d v4. A black square usually means the gauges for the new [WindowXX] were not loaded. Which airplane are you adding it to? Have you tried one of the default ones?

mkl: I'll pass this on to Tom.
