Hi,

Is it possible to make a Bell 206 series helicopter with floats actually float please?

The 'floats' that Carl Vokes gave you are ALL WRONG. I can re-do them for you. I will post the floats (type 4) cnt pts in about 1 hour. I don't think I have that model. What is the zip file name or name of modeler so I can try to find it and download it.

The reason it 'goes all crazy' is because the float are not placed right. That's all. And perhaps because the compression is also wrong (it doesn't need compression - they are 'rigid' cnt pts and not gear with shocks). I took a look at the cnt pts he provided in the text document in the download of the link so that is how I know they are wrong. I'll be BAAACK.

I just noticed you want floats for the B-206 where Carl Vokes floats are for the EH-101 so it's no wonder they didn't work. You want floats for the B-206 then you should post the file name, or at least the cnt pts section from the aircraft cfg, so I can look and fix. You can't use floats from one model on another model. OK? OK!

PS: The floats are still wrong for the EH-101, in case you wondered.

Hi napamule2,

Thanks for your offer to help & quick response.

I'll see if I can find the various Bell 206 helicopters with floats & reply with details maybe tomorrow. Interestingly I too have the 101's, and as yet have not updated their scripting. I seem to recall an update of sorts to make them float/behave better on water.

Currently having a look just through simobjects/helicopter folders. Might do better finding details in-game via 'details' for relevant helicopters. Might not be from Flightsim.

:)

kind regards, Noel B. :)

It doesn't matter if it's from FltSim or even payware. Having the cnt pts section I can fit the floats to match the model. I really don't have to have the model itself. I have been doing cnt pts and float for 12 years now. We can contiue tomorow. I have to get some sleep now. I downloaded the EH-101 Merlin by Robles (208 mb!). There was no floats model like I thought. And I did not find a B-206 with floats anywhere. But guess what? I can make the default B-206 float even if it don't have pontoons and only has skids. Ha! More later.

I, personally, really enjoy flying the Eagle Rotorcraft Simulations B206. The High Skid version comes with several that have floats. I had to change the contact points so it floated properly, but once I did, it was a great bird.

You can download the helicopter HERE. If you want, I can also post the changes I made to the contact points so the floats work properly, if you want.

Enjoy!

Hi guys,

I really appreciate the willingness to help.

The helicopter/s in question are indeed the freeware Eagles. Specifically the float-fitted ones:-

Bell_206B_JetRanger_III_FL

Attached (here) is a screengrab showing them in FSX. I have the config file & zipped "Bell_206B_JetRanger_III_FL" but at 13 Mb I may need an email/PM/somewhere I can send them please?.FSX Bell206B Jetranger III with floats.jpg

Ok! Now we are getting somewhere. (I am late due to 'real life' obligations / business. Sorry).

I am downloading the file Pat linked to as we speak. Will look at it. Will do mods and try it and then I will post the floats section that you can then 'plug in' to cnt pts. Hope you know how to copy the text from here and paste it into aircraft cfg (using NOTEPAD and nothing else!!) (cnt pt) section. If not let me know and I will post cfg to Media Fire, provide a link so you can download, then use the aircraft cfg (after rename or move original cfg).

By the way. You don't have to 'load' all the variations. You can edit the cfg to exclude the variations / paints you are never going to fly. It's easy. More later.

I must have gotten an older version or something. I had to add the following contact points to make them float. The first time I landed one in water without the change I made it sank up to the fuselage :)

It only had contact points 0-7. I added 8-12 myself. Rather a good job if I may say so myself. For a real contact point tyro, anyway. I be chuck would have done a better job faster, but heck, I did my best :)

point.9=4,   3.23,  4.10, -4.65, 2600, 0, 0.5, 0, 0.38, 2.5, 0.25, 0, 0, 7, 0, 0
point.10=4,  -6.20,  4.10, -4.65, 2600, 0, 0.5, 0, 0.38, 2.5, 0.25, 0, 0, 7, 0, 0
point.11=4,  -6.20, -4.10, -4.65, 2600, 0, 0.5, 0, 0.38, 2.5, 0.25, 0, 0, 7, 0, 0
point.12=4,   3.23, -4.10, -4.65, 2600, 0, 0.5, 0, 0.38, 2.5, 0.25, 0, 0, 7, 0, 0

Now the _FL versions all float like a dream. The water comes up just as far on the side of the floats as it should :D

Hi napamule2,

How can I get the config file to you to play with?. And yes I'm quite happy with any notepad copy/pastings, as long as I know the section in the config file.

Can you PM me so I can share my email address with you?.

Please note it's the Bell 206B Jetranger III (floats) versions I need to modify.

I can apparently only attach pic files here.

kind regards, Noel B. :)

You are not listening. If it's the Eagle B206B III FL then there is no need to modify anything as far as floats is concerned. You never said which model or by what author you are 'working' on. The Eagle version does sit a little high in the water and could be lowered by maybe 0.30 but that's it. So which model are you looking at.

Chuck and Pat,

I've really wanted to d/l the ERS B206B, but each time the past two weeks that I've d/l it, my AV states it's a "backdoor trojan". Could either of you verify that this may be a false positive. I've tested this both in the zip and unzip version. Your certification, either way, would be most appreciative. The AV definition file is updated daily. Thank you for your assistance.. Terry

I just downloaded ersb206fsx.zip from Hover Control and installed it to a folder I created. No antivirus warnings received. You may be getting "false positives" from your AV software.

It's most likely your BROOWSER that doesn't allow 'poop ups'. I use Comodo Ice Dragon which is a version of Mozila Fire Fox and I don't get any false positives from HooverControl or any other sim site. And my AV is Avast 'Free' Antivirus. Google your problem and see what people did to fix.

I'm using AVG freebie, and even when I select "ignore" I can't run the installation routine. Windows states, "Don't have the rights to access this". wonderful. I can download ok, and even unzip, but won't let me run the application. I'm tempted to restart with AVG disabled and go that direction. It's being very persistent in saying it's infected.

Hi napamule2,

Refering back to my original (1st) post, my problem is that none of the four 'float' models shown in the later-sent screengrab actually float. They get 'spat out' of the water back up into the sky. So yes I understand that the attachment points are ok. But how to I make these four models (refer to screengrab previous posts) actually land on water and float please?.

The models in question being:-

N63SH

N914HH

N1212N

N52L

Yes they are "Eagle" ones.

SimTech,

You have to right click the exe and choose 'Run As Adminstrator' then say yes / run the exe. It's a 'permissions' problem and not a AV problem or Browser problem. They are not involved after you have the zip downloaded.

Noel,

I don't get it. You might have the 2011 versions of those. The 2015 version is what I looked at. Will check the 2011 version. BUT, BUT CIGERETTE BUTT, it would be easier for you to minimize this forum, open explorer, go to aircraft cfg, open in notepad, scroll to cnt pts, drag (highlight) the 'type.4' section (4 lines), right click highlighted text (ie: 4 lines) and choose 'copy'. Then come back to forum and right click anywhere in --this-- area (where you write text) and choose 'paste'. The 4 lines will be posted so I can see the. That's how you do it. I'm waiting. But no hurry. Simming is not a race or a contest. It's entertainment in it's purest form. But it can ding your ego and make you feel humble and like a nit wit until you learn the 'tricks' we all use as we are dealing (ie: fighting thooth and nail) with stupid WINDOZE sometimes.

Hope this helps you see what if anything might be needed.

Yes. You don't have any Type 4 contact points. Not "the first 4", TYPE 4. The first number after any given point's = sign.

Thus: point.6=2, -25.0, 0.00, -0.97, 1200, 0, 0.0000, 0.0, 0.000000, 0.0, 0.000000, 0.0, 0.0, 9.0, 0.0, 0.0

Note the red number 2. That's the contact point type. You need some Type 4 contact points to make it float. Take a look at the ones I posted on page 1 of this thread. THOSE are type 4 contact points. AND they work. I tried them myself, so I can positively say they work to make the bird float. And float properly, ie: at the correct depth in the water.

Just copy the points I posted, and paste them at the bottom of your contact points section. Then number them correctly, if necessary.

Thus:

point.8=2, 6.64, 0.00, -1.84, 1000, 0, 0.0000, 0.0, 0.000000, 0.0, 0.000000, 0.0, 0.0, 9.0, 0.0, 0.0

point.9=4, 3.23, 4.10, -4.65, 2600, 0, 0.5, 0, 0.38, 2.5, 0.25, 0, 0, 7, 0, 0

Note that my posted contact points start at point.9 and continue from there.

Because I wrote them for this particular aircraft, they are Pre-Numbered for you, so to speak.

Always remember to make a backup of ANY file (like aircraft.cfg files :) ) before you edit it, and to ONLY edit it with NotePad (included with Windows). Never ever use a word processor, like MSWord, to edit any .cfg file. They add lots of symbols to the file that make it unreadable by the sim.

LATE EDIT:

Refering back to my original (1st) post, my problem is that none of the four 'float' models shown in the later-sent screengrab actually float. They get 'spat out' of the water back up into the sky.

They get spat out because you have Crash Detection turned off. Turn it back on and when they sink into the water, you will get a crash notice and be sent back to your starting point. Make the changes I posted above, and that will cease.

Hope this helps a little...

Pat☺

OK. Now I got what you have for the 'SH' model. Here is my floats (change the '.x' to the correct number). Let me know how they worked (or not).

Edit: If it sinks too much, change the '3.00' to '3.50' or '3.85'. OK? OK!

Hi napamule2,

Success! (well 95% ) :)

Modified as you directed (note I updated static_cg_height = 4.850). :)

Now floats beautifully. Just tried N63SH so far.

Attached screengrabs show the extent of float up_down.

Tried changing setting point .9=4, 3.00 to what you suggested (simultaniously changed point.12=4, 3.00 also) in-game, but made no difference?. Should I restart FSX between config file changes, for those changes to take effect??.

Many thanks for your valued help with this.

Phantom Tweak thankyou too :)
