add on aircraft files

Right Click on the Icon for aircraft.cfg and find out if it's LOCKED. The alternative method is to copy aircraft.cfg file then past it to the desktop. Edit the cfg. Then do 'Save' and say yes to over ride. Then drag cfg from desktop to where you got cfg from and say yes to replace.

Another option is to right click Notepad and 'Run as ADMINISTRATOR' then open the file you want to edit. Then UAC won't stop you from editing anything in the C:\Program Files directory.

Had same problem today. Open the properties of your file then look in security section and edit the settings that allow users to modify the file. Not at my computer now so can't be more exact for you. You can also try to open the file as administrator.

out of curiosity-

1) can you "Save as" save the file as aircraft_new.cfg ?

(then exit notepad)

2) if so, can you the delete the original aircraft.cfg ?

3) if so, can you the rename the new aircraft_new.cfg to aircraft.cfg ?

all in the same subdirectory

I believe all files must be listed in order in this same setup so fsxpilot will recognize the aircraft. Originally I did this same operation using windows 7 and it worked fine. With windows 10 from day one it would never allow add on aircraft to be recognized. Using msf and default aircraft with autopilot everything works good. You would think windows 10 would provide a procedure to allow this method just like windows 7.

the issue is you have the program (fsxpilot_2_4) in c\program files (x86)\

saving there UAC wiill not allow. was the same in win7.

there are workarounds.

for example, install outside of c:\program files (x86)\

and outside of c:\program files

or the other workarounds mentioned earlier in this thread.

Ghembree-

I'm going to retract my work around and just agree with il and the others.

I think your best bet, as a quick workaround, is to temporarily turn off UAC.

Here's a great link: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-turn-off-and-disable-uac-in-windows-10/

use option 1.

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!
