/images/notams/notams22/wego0102.jpgFor those involved in running a virtual airline there is a lot ofsatisfaction as you provide a platform for your crew members to enjoyour shared hobby. The enthusiasm generated by an active crew canmotivate you to continue to develop your "VA" perhaps beyond yourinitial plans. The development path followed by the Airwego Virtual Airline Groupis a prime example of this with many projects, either initiated by ourcrew or Staff Team, introduced allowing the VA to mature into theorganisation it is today. Twenty one years on from our inception wecontinue to thrive. With the launch of a brand new project, we are in a positionwhereby it can now allow its loyal crew members to fly "any commercialpassenger aircraft" as part of our brand new Historic Flights Projectwith just one condition. The aircraft you choose to fly on thoseroutes must have completed its first flight before 1970. In this golden age of aviation air travel was a luxury of the richand famous and in many ways a grand occasion. Our carefully chosendestinations reflect this taking our passengers from our base ofoperations in the United Kingdom to Continental Europe, North Americaand Africa. Historic Flights are currently available from our Jersey, LondonGatwick and Edinburgh bases. We have no VA liveries available for aircraft that you might usefor our Historical Flights as we simply didn't exist during this time.Pick your favourite airline from this Golden Era of aviation and offyou go. What will it be? The PMDG DC6? How about the excellent freeware Manfred Jahn DC3? Maybe one of the early Boeing jets? Immerse yourself in a bygone age and Fly the Compass. /images/notams/notams21/wego0328.jpgThe core purpose of a virtual airline, from the viewpoint ofAirwego, is to provide a platform for its members to enjoy the hobbywhile expanding their own knowledge of flight simulation. This belief has been at the heart of our VA since we took to thevirtual skies in 2000. Through many iterations of Microsoft FlightSimulator, P3D & X-Plane we have endeavoured to support those sims tothe best of our abilities with the resources available as we strive tofulfill this belief. Following a review of our long standing Aircraft Policy weconcluded a change was required to continue to support both multipleplatforms and allow our crew members to maximise the opportunity tofly their favoured aircraft. Traditionally virtual airlines would allocate a single aircrafttype to a route. We have moved away from this approach and createdAircraft Groups. Aircraft within a Group will have similar runway, range and payloadperformance and so allows the aircraft within a Group to operate thesame route and ultimately give our crew the choice of aircraft thatcan be used on that route. Prior to booking your flight you will see within the schedules theAircraft Group allocated to a route. On retrieving your booking withCompass2020 (our in-house developed Flight Reporting ACARS software)you can then select which aircraft within the Group you will beusing. From the viewpoint of a virtual aviator who has perhaps hasinvested either time or money into their favoured aircraft type thisincreases the number of routes available from our current scheduledatabase of over two thousand routes. This new policy extends rightacross our virtual airline including our highly popular library oftours. Airwego Virtual Airline Group Supports Latest Flight Simulators
Nels_Anderson posted an article in FSX
Flying the CompassAirwego Virtual Airline GroupPress Release September 2020The virtual world, from a Flight Simulation perspective, haschanged dramatically over the last few months with two (MicrosoftFlight Simulator and P3D v5) new platforms arriving in quicksuccession. With an increased focus on our shared hobby, from those who haven'texperienced it previously, virtual airlines have an important role toplay in providing an accessible platform to new recruits to help themfully engage with the opportunities it presents. As a long standingvirtual airline (established 2000) The Airwego Group is well placedwith an experienced Staff Team and library of resources to help youtake your first steps in the fascinating world of virtual airlines.Similarly for those more experienced "simmers" we offer a mature setof schedules, a virtual hangar full of aircraft repaints for bothfreeware and payware aircraft and an environment in which you canenjoy Flight Simulation without too many rules! Our Flight Tracking software (Compass2020) has been developedin-house and supports FSX, P3D, X-Plane and the new Microsoft FlightSimulator. It provides everything you need to prepare for yourflight, will not intrude with "keyboard checks" and is long-haulflight friendly by permitting the use of time acceleration (up to x4)on flights longer than five hours. /images/notams/notams20/wego0910/compass2020.jpgWhile our original bases at Manchester and Humberside Airportsstill remain we have expanded our global operations to includeBristol, Jersey, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Southend,Jersey, East Midlands, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Norwich, London Stansted,Exeter, Bodo, Bergen, Johannesburg, Palma, Palermo and PuertoRico. Singapore, our newest base, opened earlier this year and hasrecently seen the introduction of a brand new livery on the aircraftbase there. Passenger and cargo flights are available from most bases with moredetails available at our web site. /images/notams/notams20/wego0910/asia_787.jpgOn the topic of liveries supporting our "mainstream" and "Jersey"liveries we have a fantastic "Kalahari" livery used on aircraft basedat Johannesburg with our Norway based aircraft entering the paintshopto receive their very own "Norge" livery as seen currently on our A321Aircraft Fleet. Our Caribbean aircraft fleet, flying from PuertoRico, also fly in their own colours. As we are a twenty year oldvirtual airline we also have our very own "retro" liveries as seen onour aircraft in the early 2000's. There is much more to our virtual airline than we can explain inthis Press Release so we do encourage you to take a look at our website and understand more about our character, history and how we canenhance your enjoyment of this fabulous hobby. /images/notams/notams20/wego0530.jpgIt is a little over twenty years ago since our first web site waspublished and the Airwego Virtual Airline Group has this month movedto a brand new web site. The original concept took shape in the final months of 2019 and hasbeen developed through 2020. Very much at the heart of the projectwas to make the core content of the VA easily accessible in an "easyon the eye" design concept. A "Pilot Dashboard" presents our crew with an overview of their VAmembership showing their virtual logbook, flights they have bookedalong with a snapshot of their VA Awards and Tour progress. Our extensively revised Tour suite compliments our comprehensiveset of schedules operating from our twenty bases flying aircraft fromBoeing, Airbus, Bombardier and Embraer. All of our aircraft areavailable for both prominent freeware and payware aircraft via oureasy to navigate Download centre. Also available from our Download Centre is our custom flighttracking software - Compass2020. This brand new program has beendeveloped "in house" and compliments our web site based Crew Centre infirstly, assisting in vital pre-flight preparation, tracking yourflight and ultimately logging your flight in our databases all withminimal "key presses" so you can focus on enjoying your flight. Compass2020 will also assist in ensuring that all of ourflight-plans are accurate as our internal reporting systems will flagif a route different from those in our database is entered and usedprompting a review against current navigational databases. Supporting the release of Compass2020 is comprehensive userdocumentation detailing it's usage following a long standingconvention in the VA of making our hobby as accessible to as wide arange of people as we can. We understand that at first glance flight simulation can appearcomplex and to some extent exclusive however we firmly believe increating a friendly environment in which all are welcome. This maximis applied throughout the Airwego Virtual Airline Group manifestingitself in easy to install aircraft, detailed resources on how toexpand your knowledge of virtual aviation and from our experiencedStaff Team (with over fifty years of experience) a desire to share ourknowledge. /images/notams/notams19/wego0916.jpgThe year 2000, to some, will feel a long time ago.. To othersperhaps not so. After the furore of the "millenium bug" had settled down a smallvirtual airline opened in March 2000 with flights from three basesacross Northern England. Airwego, a slightly tongue in cheek namesome would say, started life with bases at Humberside, Liverpool andManchester airports with a quirky livery and diverse fleet. Free from the restraints of basing its operations on a real worldairline, Airwego was the vehicle whose course was determined by thecreativity of it's team. With traditional fixed wing schedulessupported by a "classic props" division in the Caribbean, Vertigo ahelicopter division flying initially to the gas and oil rig industryin the North Sea and a "shuttle" division filling in the "niche" tosmall regional airports Airwego flourished attracting virtual aviatorswho sought a home for their hobby. The "crew" should always be at the heart of the VA. Without them aVA has no life, no sense of community and honestly, no purpose. Overmany years Airwego has been blessed with a loyal and dedicated crewwho continue to fly with the VA nearly twenty years after itsinception. That core crew have been supplemented and swelled byvirtual aviators who have sought out a virtual airline where "minimumrules - maximum fun" is more than just a slogan...it's the DNA of theVA! Mirroring the timeline of Airwego was a virtual airline carrying"JGA" titles. JGA was similar to Airwego in many ways with a focus onenjoying the hobby and merged with Airwego in early 2018 with theprimary title of the VA morphing to "The Airwego Group". As the Airwego Group approaches twenty years of existence (we areactually older than some of our crew) and continues to evolve withmulti-platform support and with a deep library of resources we cancertainly offer a solid foundation for flight simulationenthusiasts. Fancy immersing yourself in our "regional" schedules flying theQ400, E170 or CRJ...we got that! Twin Otter fan...no problem...flythe Fjords of Norway or the Islands of the Caribbean. Want to cruisethe busy skies of Europe? Take your pick from fifteen bases acrossthe continent offering passenger and cargo flights or maybe you seeyourself ferrying "high end clients" as flight crew onboard one of ourAirweGOLD Tours? Whether you are looking for a new virtual community to explore orjust curious for more information about The Airwego Group we doencourage you to visit our web site and perhaps browse for a uniformin your size? You know you want to...come and "Fly The Compass". www.airwego.org.uk

/images/notams/notams19/wego0318.jpgOver a period of time our management team has been asked why wenever had Heathrow in our base schedules. The answer was it has beenthe Airwego Group policy historically to concentrate on more regionalairports as our bases. However we have listened to those voices and are proud to announcethat effective immediately we will commence cargo operations from EGLLHeathrow. If successful and well used we shall in the future beconsidering passenger operations as well. For now we are stationing a mixed fleet of Boeing 757F, 747F and777F at Heathrow serving initially 20 no. destinations both on theEuropean continent and worldwide. So lots to enjoy for those with bothshort/medium and long haul preferences. You will be aware that Heathrow carries one of the highest onlinecontroller presence in both Vatsim and IVAO. We would urge those ofyou who have experience in these online organisations to "fly theCompass" and let the Airwego callsign be a regular for all to hear atHeathrow. In doing this it goes without saying that you will berepresenting the good name of Airwego so having charts at the readyand using correct procedure will be a must for all of us. We hope you enjoy! www.airwego.org.uk

/images/notams/notams18/wego0903.jpgWelcome to our September Operational Update. Launching on Tuesday 4th September will be our brand new MemberFlights. Member Flights will feature a route from our schedules ofaround two hours duration with an invite to all crew to fly the routetogether while chatting on Teamspeak with a plan to move to usingDiscord for chat in the near future. We hope the Member Flights will become a important part of the"community" within the VA alongside our active Facebook Group andForum. For all Member Flights there is a free choice of aircraft (soyou don't have to use the type specified in the schedules) but aaircraft suited to the route is recommended. A calendar of the routes selected for upcoming Member Flights hasbeen published in the Crew Centre under both the Online Activities andMember Flight sections. To help the team monitor the popularity of theevents your can "book you slot" for all upcoming events which isrecommended. Suggestions for route selection in on future MemberFlights are very welcome. We hope to be able to add a "multiplayer" feature to the eventsallowing all crew to "see" each others aircraft regarding of whetheryou use FS2004, FSX, XP or P3D. Please take a look at the Member Flights section of the Crew Centrewhere you will find more details including how to setup Teamspeak andbook your slot for the launch event where members of the Staff Teamwill be available to assist with any queries you may have. Our Crew Centre now features integration with the freeware flightplanning resource from SimBrief. Simbrief uses "real world" navigational databases to assist withroute planning within Flight SImulator with the end result being aroute that can then be exported for use not only on the built in GPSsystems of FS2004, FSX, XP and P3D but also a range of paywareFMC's. Within the Booked Flights > Pilot Brief section of the Crew Centreyou will now see a option to "Get Simbrief Flightplan". On clickingthis option Simbrief will take the data from your booked flight, askfor a little information regarding fuel planning before generating theflight-plan which can then be downloaded in the required format. Thedownload process can be automated further by using Simbrief Downloaderwhich when configured will download your flight-plan and place it in auser specified folder. A comprehensive tutorial has been created by Andy (Group TechnicalDirector) explaining in full detail how to use this greatfeature. Click here to view it. Eight new pilots joined the Airwego Group in August. Welcome toTiago, Richard, Gerald, Rico and Daryl who have all filed PIREPS whilewe await first flights from Jonathan, James and Neil. If you haven't already we do encourage all of our Crew to sign upfor the forum where you will find further resources to support yourmembership of the Airwego Group. John (AWG040) has earned a promotion to Captain during August. Johnjoined the VA in July 2015 and has completed over fifty flights withinthe last three years. Congratulations on your promotion John! Tony (AWG135) made the most flights of all of our crew in Augusttaking to the air twenty nine times while Muhammad (AWG070) flew themost passengers (over three thousand) with Donald (AWG094) ferryingover a million tonnes of cargo! Well done to you and thank yourcommitment. Our most popular aircraft in August was the A319 which made fiftynine flights with the Q400 coming in second place with fifty four. TheBoeing work horse (B737) made thirty six flights. In the long-haulcategory the B747 just edged into first place with sixteenflights. The B787 & B777 both made fifteen flights. As the peak holiday season in Europe winds down there will be someseasonal changes to our schedules at the end of September. While someroutes will be with drawn some "winter" routes will replace them. Keepyour eye on the NOTAMS for the changes. Thank you for reading and enjoy your flights. Source
