Hi, I've read about models for MSFS and XP11 being converted to modified to run on XP12, but can't find any how-to tutorials. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks! Michael

/images/notams/notams22/xpla1025.jpgOverview of X-Plane 12 ATC ChangesThe Air Traffic Control (ATC) system in X-Plane 12 has had a majorre-vamp compared to that of X-Plane 11. This article will highlightsome of the major changes and point out some of the more subtle onesto try and give you an idea of what to expect. General New Features6 distinct regions (Asia, Australia, Euro, India, USA and Global)Male and female selectable pilot voicesReception strength varies with distance from the transmitter, and intervening terrainAI now wait for controller instructions to be spoken before obeying themOne of the major changes, which may also be one of the leastnoticeable, is that there is now a system of global regions replacingthe previous single global control region which modelled US-specificrules and messages. Having separate geographic regions means thatdifferent parts of the world can use voices that sound locallyappropriate, but more importantly regions can have distinct messagesand standards. To go with the regional variation in accents, thesystem now supports more than one voice per region, giving morevariation as well as both male and female voices. Male/femaleselectable voices are available for the pilot too, in the Soundsettings page. The quality of the received audio now takes the distance from the controller, relative altitude, the type of controller, and any blocking terrain into account. In other words, if you’re close to an airport with clear line of sight, you’ll get nice, strong, clear reception. If you’re miles away and flying low behind a ridge, you’ll struggle to hear what the controller is saying. When AI receive instructions from a controller they will now wait until the transmission is complete, rather than executing those instructions the instant the transmission starts. This is one of many small changes which don’t really affect anything functionally, but hopefully add to the realism and feeling of immersion. More...

/images/notams/notams22/nmg1004.jpgWe are receiving a lot of questions about this lately. It is important to remember that although X-Plane 12 is for sale,it is still in early access; development is still ongoing. Ourairports may therefore or may not work with this early version ofX-Plane. Usually, our airports are fully compatible with the next version, except for any special features that may have been added. In the caseof X-Plane 11, our airports for X-Plane 10 worked flawlessly with it,except for the ground service vehicles, which were not present. We have hoped that the same would be true for X-Plane 12, but thereports we have received so far indicates all kinds of bleed troughsand funny effects. This may change as development of X-Plane 12continues. There are also no design tools available to fix these airports forX-Plane 12 at this stage. Just like us, the developers of these toolsare probably also waiting for X-Plane 12 to go off early access beforespending time to upgrade their programs for the latest version. Thisis understandable as you don’t want to keep on fixing something thatcould have been fixed only once! If you intend on buying X-Plane 12, just remember that it is notfixed yet and that you are going to be a beta tester for LaminarResearch until the definitive version comes out. We have not decided if we are going to make our airports compatiblewith this version of not. Sales for X-Plane scenery is exceptionallylow, and it is not going to be worth the trouble if we are going tohave to re-design all the airports as in the case of MSFS. X-Plane issaturated with freeware, and this makes commercial developmentexceedingly difficult and not worth investing money into. Source

/images/notams/notams22/xpla0915.jpgX-Plane for Professional-Use is the world’s foremostgeneral-purpose flight simulator. It allows you to build aprofessional-grade flight simulator using a standard Mac, Windows, orLinux computer. Note: an internet connection is required to complete the initialinstallation of X-Plane only. Designed for professional-use and FAA-certified simulators, thePro-Use Key will: Unlock the simulator from demo mode without an internet connection.Run frame-rate and joystick checks on startup, as is needed for FAA certification.Include image warping calculations to make the scenery look correct on curved projection screens (for spherical and cylindrical projection systems).Run edge blending calculations so that the images projected by adjacent projectors look correct (so that you do not get bright bands in the area of the projection between adjacent projectors).License your simulator for commercial use (i.e., any use of X-Plane outside your own home). A Pro-Use license is required for operating the X-Plane simulator for company use, universities, etc. Here is how it works:Ordering this Professional-Use USB Key gets you everything you needto install and use X-Plane 12, including the X-Plane 12 digital keythat allows you to download X-Plane, including all global scenery, andtake you out of (time-limited) demo mode. The Pro-Use USB Keys unlock all the features listed above and takeyou out of (time-limited) demo mode. So, to build a simulator for professional or commercial use, simply: Use the included digital key provided to install X-Plane with global scenery on all of your computers, andbuy one professional-use key per computer running X-Plane.download and install the HASP USB key driver on each computer you’re using a key with.Source

At this point they are concentrating on bug fixes, and the changelog shows a long list of things that have been found and corrected. Source About X-Plane 12X-Plane 12.00 is the initial version of the newest flight simulatorfrom Laminar Research. X-Plane 12 includes new features such as newaircraft, an updated user interface, moving jetways, seasons, and anew lighting, sound and effects engine. It contains numerous flightmodel updates, an entirely updated ATC system, new Primus avionics,Navdata updates, and recut global scenery. Alpha testing began onDecember 3, 2021. /images/notams/notams22/xpla0915.jpgWell, this has been a crazy couple of weeks. X-Plane 12.00 is nowavailable for Early Access – in other words, everyone can get X-Plane12. Over the next few weeks we will post more about ongoingdevelopment and get into some of the new features in depth – there’s aton to talk about in X-Plane 12. For today, here are just a few noteson some issues that have come up over the last few days. Beta 3 Coming Soon: Over the past weekend part of the team met inperson to do planning and roadmapping; beta 3 should be availableshortly, with some of the bug fixes we’ve already coded. X-Plane 12for Steam is in review — hopefully it will be available Real SoonNow™. About Early AccessX-Plane 12 has been in a private alpha test program with thirdparties since December (!) – almost nine months. During that time webuilt 38 (!) official alpha builds, recut the global scenery fivetimes, and committed over 4000 checkins to X-Plane’s source code (plusmore to the aircraft, scenery tools and art libraries). The alphaprogram included completion of major features, lots of debugging, andchanging the product in response to early alpha feedback. So why Early Access now? Not because X-Plane 12.0 is done – westill have over two hundred open bugs and a lot of things we want todo. X-Plane 12 is in Early Access so that the entire X-Plane communitycan be involved in X-Plane 12’s growth, not just a limited number oftesters. With X-Plane 12.0 in early access, we don’t have to say ‘no’ tousers and devs who want to get started with 12, and third parties canget their entire teams using the new sim and run their own testprograms. Localized ATC Procedures/VoicesAir Traffic Control follow regional procedures and accents aroundthe world. Pavement EffectsAirport artists can choose from a library of pavement effects toperfectly capture the look-and-feel of airports by setting level ofcracking, oil spills, pavement material, and more.
