What: “Big Iron†Workshop Series When: Saturdays, 1pm PST, 4pm EST, 2000 UTC June 18th, A320 Workshop June 25th, B737 Workshop July 2nd, BAe-146 Workshop Where: TeamSpeak3, connect to(ctrl-s):ts3.digitalthemepark.com or FlightSim.Com/DigitalThemePark Discord Additional Info: http://www.digitalthemepark.com Interested in learning how to fly the “big iron Haul some self-loading cargo from A to B? Join us as we help you learn the basics of getting one of those tube liners up and running! We want to teach you the basic skills needed for getting an airliner to its destination. It is in no way intended to exactly match real-world procedures but it will give you a good foundation for further studies or even taking your first steps in a virtual airline! The course will be split into three parts. The first part will get you acquainted with the FlyByWire A320 Neo. Believe it or not, this is a study-level freeware project and if you’ve never heard of it you’re really missing out on one of the greatest freeware addons for MSFS out there! The Fenix A320 will also work just as well. The second part will teach you the basics of the Boeing 737. For that, you will need a bit more commitment because it is recommended you have the PMDG Boeing 737-700 (the only one available at the time of writing). If others become available, you will be able to use those as well. The third and final part will get you acquainted with the charming BAe-146. This classic regional airliner, nicknamed “Whisperjet†or “Jumbolino†really stands out in many ways. Our plan is to teach you these airplanes in three courses (one for each airplane) that will last approximately 2 hours. On April 6, 1924, four pilots and four copilot/mechanics left Sand Point on Lake Washington near Seattle in four aircraft for a 175-daywestward circumnavigation of the planet. It was the first successful circumnavigation of the globe with a 100-year anniversary just two years from this writing. Only two planes and crews finished the route. One aircraft got separated from the others by a thrown rod early in the flight but crashed into a mountain in Alaska while trying to catch up (the crew survived). The other aircraft capsized and wa slost while under tow after losing power near the Faroe Islands. The two remaining aircraft flew the entire route and returned to Sand Point, Washington on September 28, 1924. Join other flight simmers at DigitalThemePark in recreating these flights with your favorite sim. This is an epic journey that will be a memorable part of your flightsim adventures. What: ATC Comm Workshop for Newbies When: Starting Oct 31st, Sunday (repeating weekly), 9:00a PT / 12:00p ET / 1600 UTC Where: TeamSpeak3, connect to ts3.digitalthemepark.com Additional Info: http://www.digitalthemepark.com “mic frightâ€, “brain lockâ€, “tongue-tied†are all terms you have heard real or virtual pilots describe their first time/attempt using the aircraft’s comm radios. Many of us want to be perceived as being perfect in public. People who are normally very eloquent will freeze up when you put a microphone in front of their mouth. It’s tough to be natural in an unnatural situation, even for professionals. Okay…so that last paragraph wasn’t fair and we hope we didn’t scare you away from this post. If you want to …ease… into using comms, why not give this workshop a go! What if there was a place to learn in a relaxed atmosphere? DigitalThemePark has traditionally been an initial stepping stone for many on the path to PilotEdge and VATSIM (Excellent services and highly recommended!), especially during our weekly Discover and Achievement flights. We have put together a series of workshops that keep it fun, entertaining, and a bit of learning too. Our methods are to help you Understand, Interpret, and Learn. Below are a few of the topics we will cover in the upcoming weeks: We want to first work on overcoming “mic fright†that all of us get. Learn the aviation communication language and the importance of brevity. Learn and understand the 5 W’s: Who you are talking to?, Who you are?, Where you are?, What do you want to do?, Who you are talking to? Learn and practice the basic traffic pattern (Non-controlled airports, Controlled airports, Practicing in busy traffic) Learn airspace transitioning and the associated interactions Being comfortable with all of the above and most of all having a good time! Heck let’s start with the basics in three easy steps and learn something right now! The initial contact “You make a request to air traffic control†The instructions “They give you specific instructions to follow†The readback “You repeat these instructions to confirm that you understood them correctly†Simple right? Come join us as we take off from Santa Fe and explore this country. We will surf the Continental Divide into southern Colorado, visit the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Telluride, fly down the famous Silver Highway to Durango, tour several of the most famous Anasazi ruins (nicely modeled in MSFS) and pueblos in Arizona and western New Mexico and come back home to Santa Fe. We will be riding the Divide for the first legs of this adventure, so you will need a plane with a service ceiling of at least 14,000 ft and enough power to climb to the peaks and ride the ridges between them. The shortest runways are in the 4000 ft range, so general aviation aircraft, like the Piper Arrow. Legs are roughly 100 nm long, and we will take a leisurely pace in order to take in all the incredible scenery. Most of these airports are dirt or paved airstrips, but most of these have sufficient length and width for single-engine GA aircraft.
