TomG628
Hi, I have Prepar3D and am flying the A2A Cessna 172 with two monitors, a larger main one and a smaller one that I only use for smaller windows such as a GPS, or the 172's various smaller windows. All the smaller windows move over to my smaller monitor just fine once they are undocked with a right mouse click. However, when I undock the Preflight Checklist window (shift 8), the window instantly expands in size and the right side (about half of the window) is completely black. I try to reduce the black side with the mouse but the normal checklist side reduces as well. Any ideas? Thanks. Tom
il88pp
Can you post the panel.cfg section for the checklist? should be the [Window09] section. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
TomG628
Hi, Thanks for the quick reply. Hopefully, this is the section you want. il88pp
Sorry, the heat must have been getting to me yesterday! I should have asked for the [Window07] section! (( [Window00] -is popped up with shift+1 [Window01] -is popped up with shift+2 etc. And [Window07] -is popped up with shift+8 )) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
TomG628
Hi, No problem, the heat got to me too! Today feels much better. Here's Window 7: Thanks again for all your help. il88pp
I don't have that aircraft. So I'm not 100% sure of what the gauge looks like. But you described it like "right half of gauge is black" and that's easy to picture. I'll explain below. Note the line: Window_size=1024,786 That's the popup Window size. 1024x786. so Window is like this: (I used smaller images, length x width is the same ratios.) ------------- The Gauge size is also 1024x786 see line: gauge00=A2A_C172!walkaround, 0,0,1024,768 like so: so the gauge fits nicely in the Window. When you have the Window showing as popup, you will probably see the right half of that as transparant. So to you the gauge would look like this: --------- With the "usable-gauge-size" smaller then 1024x768 the right half of gauge would be transparent in popup Window. But when undocked, that transparent area will show as black. I imagine like so: ------------------ The solution is: resize the "popup-window-size" so that is the same as the "usable gauge area". For example change line: Window_size=1024,786 to: Window_size=600,786 //orig was 1024,768 (the: //Window_size=1024,786 at the end of the line is behind a // and will therefore not be read by Prepar3D and not be executed. It's there as a "comment" so you know later what you changed and can change it back if needed. Actually, before editing the panel.cfg file at all, make a backup of it that you save in the same folder. (panel-orig.cfg) as filename for example.) The 600,786 that I put there is of course just a guess. It would make the Window the same height (786) and less widht (600). You may need a few tries to get the width just right. Leave the rest of the section the same. The gauge size does not have to be changed as well. The result will be this as Resized Window size. and this with the "gauge-usable-area" showing in the Window. If you undock that smaller Popup, it should now stay the same. No black showing. (Come to tink of it, maybe that gauge can be edited to the same size. Not sure in this case as I don't have that aircraft. It doesn't have to be made the same size, but it probably can be.) One very important note at the end. Are you sure the black area is not usable?? Is there not some way to go through the checklist so that suddenly makes a second list pop up in the black area. (by clicking on something in the list perhaps.). Or for example that by making the window less high, the list 'flows over' onto the black area to the right. 1----- 2----- 3----- 4----- 5----- 6----- becoming 1----- 4----- 2----- 5----- 3----- 6----- when resized? Or if sometimes more items are on the list: 1----- 7----- 2----- 8----- 3----- 9----- 4-----10----- 5----- 6----- If "double lists" can occur resizing the Window_size= may not be the best idea. Enjoy!!:) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
TomG628
Wow. You did a beautiful job! Do you mean the "size_mm=1024,768" line?
il88pp
Yes, the size_mm= [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
TomG628
First of all, Thank You for taking the time to help me with this. I followed your directions and you were right, it will take some tweaking until I get it right, but I'm making progress. Regards, Tom
il88pp
Great. Well done. In fsx there is a key command "Aircraft reload". (It's one you have to assign to a key yourself in fsx. It's not assigned by default.) with that command assigned to for example "shift+F11" you can: -load the aircraft, *edit the panel.cfg file and save it, -press "shift+F11" *and see the changes. (use the // method to keep track of the previous values when editing.) I'm don't know if that key-command exists in P3D. And the 'Aircraft reload' command does not work with all payware planes. It's well worth checking if you have that option in P3D. It makes the fuzzy logic approach for finding the right value a lot easier. Glad I could help.:D:cool: Happy Flights!
