Rupert
I hear you! I've been there and done that. Except in my case it was almost always either a CH-34 or a CH-46. Though once I was one of a group that delivered a P3 from North Island to Baltimore. We needed to pick up some CH-46s in Philly to fly back to MCAF Santa Ana and had no way to get there, so we said yeah we'll take it! None of us had ever been inside much less flown a P-3!! But we needed to get to Philly to pick up Ch-46s so they could be shipped ASAP to Vietnam. So we just read the manuals and flew it to Baltimore where it needed to go. Having said that, since none of us had ever flown nor landed a P-3, we demanded a Straight In Approach and asked that Crash Crew be alerted in case of an issue. Thankfully there was no issue landing and we took rental cars to Philly to pick up our 46s. GREAT SHOTS!! Michael BTW: On other ferry trips we flew or were passengers in various military aircraft getting as close to Philly as we could manage on ferry hops. And yes, we sometimes ended up renting a car or cars for the last several miles of the trip. Once four of us, two crews, ended up flying 2nd seat in four F-4s which were being ferried to the east coast. And we even experienced being air to air refueled in route! Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.
