They're called ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuit). As the name suggests, they are a unit "specifically" made for one thing: mining cryptocurrency. While high power GPUs can do this as well (depending on the cryptocurrency), and ASIC can do this job waaaay more faster. OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk?
