FlightSimulator.exe has stopped working error

Recommended Posts

Hi Matt, so I’m not the only one? That’s good to know. Thanks :)

I had thought of messing with defender but hadn’t got around to trying that yet. It’s almost done installing so I’ll see how it goes.

Regards

Steve

I'm afraid I have nothing to offer that will be of any help. But good luck to you, I've also been there and I know it's mind numbingly frustrating.

I would like to say thanks that you're remaining mature in a forum infested by irrational rage. This has been, by far, the most pleasant trouble shooting thread on the FS2020 forum. The world would be a better place if more people follow your example.

Edit: I see you found solution. Hooray! :pilot:

Thank you

Yep, problem solved (hopefully) :)

I’m reinstalling Windows as we speak so I’ll have a nice clean system again. I’m not going to rush it though. Windows first.. then all the updates etc.. MSFS & add the exception in Defender.

I’m much happier now :)

Steve

Excellent! I think my Defender has been on the entire time. But will keep it in mind if I start having crashes.

Me too. I think it’s probably best that it’s on, but you can add MSFS as an exception.

I’m installing all the updates at the moment.. then it’ll be the main feature :)

Just a quick update...

Windows & every available update installed.

All MS Store updates installed

MSFS (initial bit) installed plus the digital ownership.

Gone into Windows Defender settings & added MSFS folder as an exclusion (well the package folder anyway)

Then... successfully launched MSFS!

It’s downloading the main bit now :)

Brilliant news Steve. Hopefully the solution that Matt found, and this thread, can help others too. [emoji106]

Hopefully Asobo will pick up on this too and sort it out in an update. Two programs from the same company (MS) shouldn't be clashing like this.

We all just want to be flying instead of dealing with issues like this.

Good luck

Looks like there's a permanent solution for the CTD immediately upon launch.

According to the official forums, Asobo raised the issue with MS and now there's updates in the Windows Store for Gaming Services.

I went into the windows store and hit "downloads and updates" in the top right menu. Nothing seemed to happen, so I clicked on Gaming Services and it initiated an update. I also updated xbox game bar and the xbox app too for good measure.

I launched MSFS without touching Defender and it ran without CTD. I had not added an exception to Defender, and it was enabled after a fresh bootup.

So look to see if you have the updated version of Gaming Services as per this screenshot. msfs-ctd-fix.png

Thanks for the info & your previous suggestion which worked a treat! :)

I’ll check out the gaming services update shortly

Cheers.
