leuen
I use several flyable floatplanes as AI, and up to now they work perfectly. But I got some issues with some specific mdoels, like the Dornier Wal or Benoist (St. Petersburg–Tampa Airboat Line). They correctly taxi out to starting position (take-off 2), but remain immobile and don't move for take-off. There aren't any errors in the ADE. Does anyone know what could be wrong or should be modified? Thanks for any advice. Bernard
Roger Wensley
More info? Did these particular planes work ok before? Or are they new and don't work?
leuen
Yes, I used them newly. Curiously they are both high wing aircraft. I also tried to use different air files, but that has no impact. Bernard
CRJ_simpilot
To absolutely rule out the airport, try getting them to takeoff at another airport. Preferably a stock airport that hasn't been edited. The air file is only one part of a two part equation. The Aircraft.cfg also has a bearing. You could also try replacing the air file and .cfg file with that of a comparable aircraft model and see what happens. Just don't lose your original air and .cfg files. PS: Typically, flyable aircraft are not made to be used as AI and can fly very strange, etc. The other issue is that the textures might be heavier than what is used for AI as well as the detailed heavier model. Thus having an overabundance of flyable aircraft as AI can have an impact on computer resources in a game that is single threaded and doesn't use much of the GPU from the get go. I have used a few flyable aircraft for my FS2004 Area-51 project for AI simply because I couldn't find AI counterparts. But that was it. And I saw my SR-71 fly like utter crap. LOL Edited July 29, 2020 by CRJ_simpilot OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk? An awesome weather website with oodles of Info. and options. Wile E. Coyote would be impressed. Roger Wensley
Very unlikely to be texture files. Excellent suggestion to try another float place, but it's almost certain that they were never intended to operate as ai, and never will unless edited to make it possible. jgf
"I have used a few flyable aircraft for my FS2004 Area-51 project for AI simply because I couldn't find AI counterparts." I've often done this, but go back to FS2000, even FS98, for aircraft; the models have lower poly count, textures are usually lower res, typically fewer animations, and most work well with little to no tweaking. There also seems to have been a greater variety of aircraft produced back then.
jgf
"...but remain immobile and don't move for take-off" I assume this is on a seaplane base. Can you fly the airplane from this base? Is the base complete with ATC or do the AI just appear and take off on schedule?
tgibson_new
Assuming it's the aircraft models, it's usually the Contact Points that are the problem. Often the Scrape values are scraping on the ground, or something similar. You can test this by temporarily replacing the Contact Points section of the aircraft.cfg file with a section from a plane's cfg file that does take off. Ignore what the plane looks like, but does it now take off? Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.com
leuen
Thanks your replies. I will try to modify the contact poin ts as suggested by Tom. Curiously I let flying a Junkers F33 as AI too using the same waterstrip, and it takes off correctly. Meanwhile I face the same problem with Denis Simanaitis' Benoist XIV. It is right now 21:55 EST time ... the AIR file I will check tomorrow I should be finished with the "plane" by tomorrow evening. I still search for the Speed Data , T.O. Landing. leuen
Thanks Chuck. Applied your aircraft cfg, and it works perfectly! I tried to use it with Dornier Groenland Wal too, but it seems not being the right solution. It works with Junkers F13 contact points while setting static_cg_height value at 6.81. But then the aircraft floates to high over the water. Bernard Edited August 5, 2020 by leuen

napamule2
Bernard, These models can be from FS2002 and I don't have them. Mr Pook updates these types sometimes but are hard to find. So if you can direct me to the MODEL you want (ie: sometimes they are same name but can have 1 engine, 2 engines, 3 engines, etc) I can take a look at the dynamics, cnt pts, etc for you. Base model is best (paints such as 'Greenland') FOR THAT MODEL is irrelevant (to me). Cheers. Chuck B Napamule PS: On the cfg I provided: the panel name is 'hjaFI' (I forgot to change name). Sorry about that. I use a panel that I am familiar with and that way I don't have to 'learn', or 'put up with', the provided panel which sometimes are lacking gauges, etc. Edited August 6, 2020 by napamule2 i7 2600K @ 3.4 Ghz (Turbo-Boost to 3.877 Ghz), Asus P8H67 Pro, Super Talent 8 Gb DDR3/1333 Dual Channel, XFX Radeon R7-360B 2Gb DDR5, Corsair 650 W PSU, Dell 23 in (2048x1152), Windows7 Pro 64 bit, MS Sidewinder Precision 2 Joy, Logitech K-360 wireless KB & Mouse, Targus PAUK10U USB Keypad for Throttle (F1 to F4)/Spoiler/Tailhook/Wing Fold/Pitch Trim/Parking Brake/Snap to 2D Panel/View Change. leuen
Chuck, As you correctly presumed, its a Dornier Wal initially for FS2002 done by Wolfram Beckert. I use the model available here, which shows props: https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/0B8fpmSxRrUQZMDVUNGl5emZiSFk Maybe you get it flying as AI. That would be very helpful, as I began to create von Gronau's flight around the world in 1932. Bernard
leuen
With the kind help of Guenter Kirschstein, the Dornier Wal of Wolfgang von Gronau could at last start its around the world trip done in 1932 (here landing at Seydisfjord in Island). napamule2
Well I am glad you got your wish. I downloaded the Wal but it was 7zip and my WinZip would not extract the files so I gave up (I am kind of busy with 'Real Life' stuff right now). Glad to hear Guenter Kirschstein helped you with the FDEs that made the Wal flyable. Don't worry, I don't need the Wal. I have 1,000 other (FS9 and FSX) air boats already (hehe). As far a using as Ai I suspect that it not being able to turn on water or land MIGHT have made it unuseable as AI. The cnt pts that I made gave it steering on water and land. Not sure if that makes a difference when used as AI as I do not 'DO' AI. Look at lines for floats to see how you can add steering on water. Also compare the compression values for floats as mine work perfect (not bragging) every time. Have a nice RTW trip.
