FS 2020 and FSX 10

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately, at the moment no one can really answer this at the moment as Asobo hasn't provided many details. They have said there is a FSX compatibility mode for aircraft, but we don't know how compatible it really will be, or how it even works. On the scenery side, I wouldn't expect any scenery from FSX work at all without updates. One of the main features of the new sim is the vastly improved scenery engine with streaming imagery and photogrammetry. Scenery add-ons, such as Orbx's regions, won't be as relevant with this new scenery engine, whereas maller, more focused add-ons like airports, will still be useful for the ones Asobo hasn't modelled in great detail.

When it comes to updating existing add-ons, it will be up to each developer. Orbx has mentioned they are looking at some form of discount for existing customers, though there are no guarantees. However, as this is really a new sim, not an upgrade from FSX, I wouldn't expect there to be many discounts. The SDK is new, and still evolving from the sounds of it, which means developers are going to need to spend time bringing their products to the new sim, and they will want to be compensated for it.

There is nothing saying you have to completely remove your existing sim from your PC. You could still run your existing sim with all of its add-ons while also enjoying the new sim and what it has to offer. It will take time for aircraft and scenery to be brought to the sim.
