How do you disable the wind?

This may seem like a strange question, I know I can clear the weather in FSUIPC so there is no wind, but it also clears the clouds.

I tried doing user defined weather by having the wind as zero but wind still blows.

The reason I ask is when viewing ai aircraft every so often they do this sway to a fro which I don't like, if I clear all weather in FSUIPC the wind is zero and the swaying stops, the aircraft flies straight all the time unless changing course.

So what I want is to still have some clouds but no wind, so is there a way to do this?

Go to the menu World/Weather. On the page that comes up click on User Defined Weather, then Customize. On the page that comes up click on Advanced Weather. Click on the Wind tab.

Now you can set wind speed and direction. Now you'll need to create whatever wind layers you want and set speed and direction, turbulence or not, etc.

I selected the wind to zero but once in the air it was still there.

I bet it was zero in the altitude range you changed to zero, perhaps just in the default zero to 6,000 feet. You'll need multiple altitude ranges set to zero (probably at least three) or one set at the altitude(s) your AI fly at, in order to get it to zero.

You nailed it Larry, thank you. I had another look and I only had it set to zero in one layer, I widened the layer and in doing so also got a nice effect with the clouds too.

I followed a flight from takeoff to level flight, at first the wind was zero then it very slowly increased to 7 knots, I thought it wasn't working then it slowly dropped again to zero.

I'll play about with it a bit more now, thanks again Larry.

I don't think in 'real' life there can be 'zero wind'. There is always wind. What changes is the speed and direction. But there will always be wind.

I know Chuck, as I said in my first post it was to stop the ai from swaying to and fro during flight, by disabling the wind that stops, it was mainly for visual effects.

Mind you do hear of sailing vessels being becalmed because the wind had dropped.

Over a large area I expect you're right, Chuck, but the anemometer in my back yard will sometimes stand still -- literally no movement -- for a little while, from time to time, so in a given spot there can be complete calm for short periods, and it can be under two or three knots/mph/kph for longer periods. But I can't recall, in all the years I've had it, that the high wind gusts for the day were less than 6-8 kts.

Of course I expect there may be some mild vertical movement of the air during that time, but an anemometer doesn't register that.

I'm not a meteorologist, nor have I played one on T.V. and some people are too into realistic to enjoy an alternate view but...

If you take an opposite approach and throw in a HIGH-SPEED (80 - 120 kts) wind layer with clouds a few thousand feet above your flight level it can feel more immersive as you are forced into an awareness of that real massive river of air just above you. One that can kill you if you stray too close...
