WWII Flight Plans?

I have been researching a project that I would like to try...I would like to make a flight plan as close to realistic as possible for a C-47 as it would have flown from an airfield in England to the coast of Normandy and back on D-day 1944...I have Manfred Jahn's excellent C-47...What scenery would you recommend for Ver 4.2 that would really show the Normandy coast in detail? And, does anyone have a source of maps, drawings, etc., of such a flight that they could upload and share? Of course, I will share anything I get together! Thanks for your interest!

Don't know how you plan to do this?

No Navaids present in 1944 except some inaccurate long-range radio beacons but you could certainly plan a flight that starts from a WW11 airfield and flies over the landing grounds behind the beachheads, But the planned flight route was often missed by many, many miles because they flew at night, by VFR.

Some jumpers reported being off the edge of the field maps...

Interesting idea, suggest contacting the RAF Museum at Hendon for help.

Hi LTC

Interesting that you should ask this question. My VA, http://www.dc3airways.net has done several WWII recreations. We currently are recreating the Berlin Airlift Flights from 1948. One of our pilots has thoroughly researched the role of the C47 and has created accurate flight plans based upon the real ones. We have also done recreations of Operation Varsity and Operation Market Garden. Please feel free to take a look. In the meantime, I posted a news article at flightsim.com some years back when we first flew a WW simulation. Take a look and please consider this an invitation to join us at DC3 Airways. That invitation, btw is open to anyone else on this thread.

Forums are open only to member pilots. I suggest you apply for membership, which gives you more of a chance to explore our entire VA. The original USAF FPs for the Berlin Airlift are on our multiplayer forum. I have downloaded them for my use in today's flight, but have asked our VP of OPs, who created this sequence of flights, if it is OK to send the plans to you without joining DCA. When I get an answer, I will let you know....meantime, please sign up and take a look....
