Heading indicator adjust knob

I've managed to map every control and switch on the default Cesna 172 to a spare keyboard, Saitek Yoke, Rudder, Throttle Control, Radio Panel and Multi Switch so that once the flight is loaded I have no need to use the mouse. After lots of research and experimentation I've also managed to label the keys in a manner that looks reasonably professional. My only outstanding issue is a button on the Heading Indicator labeled "Push" with a hot tip saying it's the "Heading Indicator Adjust Knob. The trouble is I can't find anything either in FSX or FSUIPC that corresponds with that. I can reset but not rotate in the same way using the mouse operates.

I think its the "autopilot heading bug" (increment and decrement) you are referring to?

I think what you refers to is the equivalent to the "D" key in FS. It resets the gyro drift. In a real acft you use this button to adjust the heading Arc to the actual magnetic heading, to solve the misplacement after some turns.

I don't know if this is operative in the c172. Have you tried with the mouse? It works?

I did a trace on LINDA. The button on the left of the heading indicator marked PUSH is to adjust for Gyro Drift. LINDA shows GYRO_DRIFT_INC, when clicking on +. (FSX control 65877) and GYRO_DRIFT_DEC, when clicking on -. (Fsx control 65878).

I cant find it in FSX itself but you should be able to assign it through either LINDA or FSUIPC.

I think that the setting in FSX "Heading Indicator (reset)" effectively does the same job as manually adjusting it up or down, but I am guessing here because I have Gyro Drift turned off in my realism settings so I have never used it

Well done that man. Linda sounds useful it's a shame I can't get it to work.

Linda is particularly useful for cockpit builders, especially when trying to assign controls in addon aircraft which often use custom controls rather than the standard fsx ones.

My own cockpit is based on the Carenado Phenom 300 so it was invaluable for tracing the various custom controls that Carenado use.

If you are flying a heading, with AP 'ON' ('Z' key), then to do 'Heading Hold' you press 'Ctrl+H'. That sets Heading to whatever heading you presently are at. Press 'Ctrl+H' to un-do (turn off HD Hold when on AP). Is this helpful? Cheers.

Thanks for that but as I said in my OP I' do not use any of the default key settings.

You first have to focus on the Heading button

Heading Bug Select = Ctrl+Shift+H

then use the standard increment and decrement buttons to set it

Increment = +

Decrement = -

Tip: Carenado/Alabeo seem to have found a way to optimise setting the inc/dec feature to either 1° or 10° on their G1000 displays with a heading buttion on some of their models so that you can right mouse click and switch between the ranges (the same for Altitude pre-set between 100's and 1,000's feet)

If you have any of their aircraft might be worth putting effort on getting Linda to work to trace what they're doing.
