Guest boxcar
Intel Processors and serious "speculative execution" security flaw. Updates, when available, may well slow processors down significantly, 17% to as much as 30% it's claimed. AMD appears calm and reassuring so far, but Intel users need this information. Gamers are less affected than those using strong movie, photo, and streaming processes: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/security/a14537256/horrific-security-flaw-affects-decades-of-intel-processors/?src=nl&mag=pop&list=nl_pnl_news&date=010318 https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/01/meltdown-and-spectre-every-modern-processor-has-unfixable-security-flaws/
CRJ_simpilot
"Games will see very little change." Except for the fact FS is largely CPU driven, not GPU driven. I like how Intel's CEO cashed out of 39 mil worth of stock prior to this crap coming out. OOM errors? Read this. What the squawk? An awesome weather website with oodles of Info. and options. Wile E. Luke
Except for the fact FS is largely CPU driven, not GPU driven. Yes, but the specific slowdown is during the user/kernel mode switch. FS spends the vast majority of its time in user mode. The only time you do lots of these transitions are when you're doing heavy network and/or disk I/O. Which FS doesn't do a lot of. Cheers!
