gonpostal
A shame really, because with all of it's quirks, it's still one of my favorite aircraft to fly. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-08-30/delta-will-promote-pilots-to-captain-if-they-can-fly-this-old-plane
RichardFS
I thought Delta was keeping them for at least another 5 or 6 years? Also, the article really has a strong bias against them which grinds my gears, the MD80 is my favorite jet aircraft and is so much better than modern planes in many, many ways. Still the most beautiful jet airplane ever built in my opinion.

However, if you talk to pilots, they do not love the MDs especially on snowy runways.

jgf
"...regional carriers, which are lobbying to relax a requirement that commercial pilots have at least 1,500 hours of flight time." That certainly inspires confidence.
kingnorris
Then a new captain can work at Allegiant. They're keeping the MD's for the foreseeable future..
