mrzippy Posted March 24, 2017 Share Posted March 24, 2017 Propeller DC-3 and turbo prop??? Both have propellers. Difference is the engines and performance of each. Turbo prop will have a better chance at stopping using the reverse thrust of the turbo props. Turbo props may have the advantage in takeoff and climb performance. Might even have a better fuel burn rate and get some extra distance from the turbo prop. Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer! The main point is that the DC-3 have 'tempermantal 14 cyl' PISTON engines. The BT-47 has higher rpm, higher payload, and higher operating cieling, TURBO-PROP engines. The DC-3 body was lengthened, and wings modified, new metal prop, etc, for performance, lower stall speed, which can operate in extreme weather conditions when put on skis, and of course shorter landing roll due to reverse thrust. Purists scoff because they don't like the changes made to their adored '3'. Turbo-Prop rules!
