benibaz
I have just designed a new airfield using AFCAD for FS2004 but when running FS the rwy and apron have trees and shrubs on them,The airfield Muxtamel(LEMU) north of Alicante is not listed in the Spanish AIP being only a small one,but I managed to find all relevant information in order to create the airfield in the exact geographical position which is now reproduced in FSNav and Plan-G.The AFCAD help file does not give any practical information on how to resolve this problem, only mentions something vague about Autogen,I would appreciate therefore if anyone could provide practical assistance in resolving this problem.Thanks.benibaz, Windows 10 Pro MSFS2020 FSX Acceleration Intel i7-3770 @3.4GHz Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 16GB RAM EVO SSD 500GB Seagate HDD 2TB Vatsim 1303381 P1(PPL)
longbreak754
Hi benibaz, You need to create an autogen exclusion polygon that covers the whole airfield or a series of target ones that cover the exact areas were the problem exists. Such polygons, depending on how they are formatted, can also be used to add generic default airfield backgrounds, flatten areas and so on. As a FSX user I don't use AFCAD myself, so can't tell you how to do it. I do, however, use Airport Design Editor (ADE), which can be used for both FS2004 and FSX. It has a very comprehensive User manual and creating such polygons are easy. ADE can be found at http://www.scruffyduck.org/airport-design-editor/4584106799 - the download link for it can be accessed by hovering the mouse cursor over the ADE entry located above the description text. leuen
With AFX ant its exclusion rectangels you might deleted them almost "surgically". I'm FS9 user and have sometimes trees and other objects where they shouldn't be.
benibaz
Thank you Brian and leuen for your advice.I have ADE on my other computer which is used as a backup for all my .zip files so I will give it a try,as for AFX leuen,I do not know what it is or where to obtain it,I would be helpful if you could help me on this matter.Thank you both again. benibaz. willy
Hallo Benibaz. Have you tried ExcBuilderV2? You can download it at avsim library. File name "ExcBuilderV2.zip". Good luck. Willy
Jet Blue
I have to agree with Benibaz. ExcBuilderV2 is the best tool to use in these type of situations. It is very easy to use and removes unwanted buildings as well. Have fun Jet Blue
benibaz
Thank you both Willy and Jet Blue I will certainly give ExcBuilderV2 a try as ADE does not work for me because my monitor only has a maximum of 1024x768 which is too small for ADE function to correctly.OK you say!why not buy a new monitor for ADE to function?in time this will happen, but for now I have what I have, and wish to continue with AFCAD,(also tried AirportV2,6 but gives an out of memory and then freezes the computer),Once again thank you both.benibaz. tgibson_new
Hi, Don't forget to install the DLL file that ExcBuilder needs. In the instructions. Here's how I use ExcBuilder: 1. Go into Slew mode (Y) 2. Go into Top Down view (Ctrl-S) 3. Press the Space Bar to point true north. 4. Slew to the upper left of your exclude area. Click the two buttons in the upper left of ExcBuilder 5. Slew to the lower right of your exclude area. Click the two buttons in the lower middle of ExcBuilder. 6. Select to exclude Generic Buildings and Library Objects (for example), or select All Objects to get rid of the autogen trees and buildings. I also exclude Effects (flashing red lights on buildings) and Fuel Triggers (if annoying) if desired. 7. Click the Generate XML button. 8. Click the Generate Exclude File button. I give mine names that start with x (xklax_terminal.bgl). Move the resulting .bgl file from your ExcBuilder folder to your scenery's scenery folder, or to the Addon Scenery/scenery folder, or any other active scenery folder. Roger Wensley
Doesn't he just need to make an airfield grass background with SBuilder?
benibaz
Doesn't he just need to make an airfield grass background with SBuilder? No,Roger, because the airfield has a concrete apron on both sides of the rwy and that is where the trees and shrubs are and which need to be removed.benibaz. benibaz
Tom,I have done exactly as the instructions say, everything is correct up to the point of converting the xml file into the bgl file which fails to happen, any help would be grateful.benibaz Windows 10 Pro MSFS2020 FSX Acceleration Intel i7-3770 @3.4GHz Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 16GB RAM EVO SSD 500GB Seagate HDD 2TB Vatsim 1303381 P1(PPL)
leuen
... as for AFX leuen,I do not know what it is or where to obtain it ... It's a payware. But since ExcBuilder is the best tool, so you certainly won't use a worse one.
tgibson_new
A few things can cause that. 1. You didn't go into slew mode and then press the space bar. This points you true north, which is critical. Do not turn your plane after doing this. Just move it left, right, forward, and back. 2. Check that when you click the buttons, correct lat and long numbers appear. If not, ExcBuilder is not communicating with FS properly. 3. Make sure that you click the upper left buttons when your plane is in the upper left corner in FS and you click the other buttons when you are in the lower right corner. 4. If you are already viewing the folder where the BGL file should appear, choose View/Refresh to see if it is just hiding. tgibson_new
And I agree, for a new airport creating an airport background (using airport grass) would be the ideal solution, if the OP wants the airport to have a grass background. benibaz
Done all that Tom,and no it´s not hiding in the folder. There is something amiss either with the program ExcludeBuilder or my computer.I am using FS2004v9.1,XPpro.sp3.I also have another program FS2004SDK and that has just come up with some errors, the Lattitude error does not make sense, because they appear to be correct. Roger Wensley
Benibaz, Just for the record, trees and shrubs are created by the landclass, and they don't care if it is a concrete apron or runway. Sbuilder would have dealt with it all, and the airport background could be grass, or dirt, or whatever best suited the location.
